Taj Mahal Palace is a historic 5-star luxury hotel located next to the Gateway of India in the Colaba district of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Built in the Indo-Saracenic style, it opened as the Taj Mahal Hotel on December 6, 1903, and is often known historically simply as "The Taj."
The hotel is named after the Taj Mahal in the city of Agra, approximately 1,050 kilometers (650 miles) from Mumbai. It has been considered one of the finest hotels in the East since the days of British rule.
The hotel was founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group, a large Indian company. He also runs his Indian Hotels Company Limited, headquartered in Mumbai, India, of which Taj Hotels is a subsidiary.
Taj Hotels' first hotel, Taj Mahal Palace, has 560 rooms and its 44 suites and is considered the group's flagship property. It employs 1,600 staff. The hotel consists of two distinct buildings, the Taj Mahal Palace and the Tower, which are both historically and architecturally distinct (Taj Mahal Palace was built in 1903, and the Tower opened in 1973).
The hotel has received many notable guests, from presidents to captains of industry and movie stars.
On November 26, 2008, the hotel was targeted in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, which caused property damage, including the destruction of the hotel's roof within hours. The parts of the hotel that sustained less damage were reopened on December 21, 2008. On August 15, 2010, India's Independence Day, the Taj Mahal Palace reopened after restoration. The cost of renovating the hotel is estimated at 1.75 billion rupees. The Palace building has been restored and new hotel services have been provided.
The attack on the hotel was depicted in the 2018 film Hotel Mumbai.

My partner and I stayed at the Bell Tower room during my first staycation in Mumbai and on our 2nd staycation, we got upgraded to another suite facing the gate of Mumbai. Love the hospitality there.
Even as an Indian this was my first time seeing insides of the hotel in such a detailed manner and I'm absolutely in awe!
卒業旅行でインド行きました。ここに最終日一番やすい部屋に宿泊予定だったけどダブルブッキングで。お詫びとしてこのホテルの一番すごい部屋見せてもらい他の五つ星のスイートに泊めてもらいました。こちらではお茶、ご飯と伝統舞踊を観ました。30年前なので曖昧ですが、見学した部屋は螺鈿細工の家具や宝石がついた孔雀のブランコ、噴水がお部屋にあったりすごかったです。白い大理石のロビーで美味しい紅茶、ラッシー飲んだの覚えています。また舞踊が凄くて皆んな感動して泣いてた。ご飯も超美味しくて世界一のインド料理だといまだに思います。
思い出させていただきありがとうございます。お部屋がゆったりしていたり、ビュッフェはお食事バリエーション沢山あって素晴らしいですね、みんなおばさんになったけどあの時の友達誘って行きたいです。

Thank you sir for another quality establishment. Great to see that you will not go broke staying and eating at this hotel. Only once have I stayed in a hotel with a two-story room (Victoria, B.C.) and it was lovely. Giant chocolate cookies with turn-down service, full kitchen and a two level main floor. The Taj Mahal Palace was tastefully decorated and your room was more like a nice apartment than a hotel. Again, my thanks for your detailed video tour, English subtitles, and food/menu close ups.
I just had to stop the video to complement you on a well produced video. Soft music while pointing out all the details of your suite. Details I would have definitely missed. No talk, just showing us around and allowing the subtitles to explain. I know there's nothing like being there, but glad you went and thanks for taking us along.
It is Gateway of India not India Gate. India Gate is a war memorial in Delhi. People often get confused about the two.

*I was 9 when that heinous 26/11 terrorist attack happened and I remember feeling so scared despite NOT being in that situation.* But the live news footage of constant bombings and firing from the hotel, Indian Army black commandoes landing into the hotel from a helicopter kept entire nation in frenzy.
So many foreign tourists were also trapped within and the Taj staff did their best to protect them as Terrorists usually target Americans more. *Kudos to the Taj Staff back then out of whom many even died while helping patrons.*

Elegant hotel, but the smell of dirty water front is very close.
India is a different world, in every sense. In good and bad. Indian luxury is that too.
Smell of dirty water? There is no such smell there I can assure you. The color of the water is not due to pollution btw. It’s brackish water. I can tell you’ve never been there. Probably can’t afford a stay either.
Most of the part is true. But there was no such smell near taj. I stayed once, by looking it from far away, I thought it was polluted and sticky, but it's not, I went near it and it's the actual color comes from soil beneath it. It won't smell.

what do mean by stupidity ? It is pure Luxury
For 1.25 lakhs the minibar was a disappointment. So was lack of USB. But probably who needs a minibar when u can spend another lakh or two to order room service. Overall decor is nice. Bedroom is not. Dinning room is. Mini kitchen is. But for similar amount there rfar better options of taj outside India. Ex Pierre or Taj cape town.
