Kumina is a dance based on the Jamaican Afro-cult to be found largely the parish of St. Thomas where rites are held for a variety of occasions.

If only this could be preserved like a good bottle of wine. I really like this part of our culture. Please don't let it die!

How lucky I was to have been growing up in Kingston when Kumina premiered. I was struck and mesmerized. How wonderful to have such a riveting expression of our African heritage. Homage and hail to Rex, our master visionary!

I woke up this morning with kumina on my mind. I am yearning for home. NDTC seasons were a thing back when I was a child. Now this, posted a few days ago.....synchronicity. The spirits of the ancestors know that we need a balm in these times. Ase'

Always loved going to see NDTC in my younger days. Just listening to the drums had me tapping and moving .. the elegance. .. I have wondered what it would be like to experience the real thing...I remember Patsy ricketts...

Wonderful...Yes, Patsy Ricketts was a beautiful dancer onstage and she still exudes a 'gentle beauty' offstage.

I think I keep forgetting the stick fight form that this work also stylizes... is it Warrick?
