    I'm very impressed that the sailors are able to keep track of which boat is theirs at such a distance, as well as be aware of the direction of the wind relative to their boat, the position of their sails, and how close they are to other boats. It seems a lot harder to sail well by remote control than when you're on board yourself!

    my understanding is that there is no official rule that a race committee should call "all clear" at a start. You usually find that the "all clear" is called for the benefit of other race officers who note / list those boats, if any, that were OCS (on course side) of line at a start signal.

    Hi guys, Great video!! Im thinking of buying an entry level 1m or a 1m Laser ... Im stuck between the two. Could someone please describe the pros and cons of each class boat? All I see with the Lasers is them nose diving and they appear to be very slow on TV Which class is faster? Appreciate any advice. I've had many toy/hobby grade 650's and 1m but the hardware is nothing on these. Thanks for any help.

    The first minute is looking at peoples backs. Then a not very clear start. Then lots of beeping. Gave up.

    This must be really hard. I mean, at least when you're on the boat, you can see the sails properly, sense the wind direction, etc. Here it's hard enough to pick out your boat from the others, never mind trim the sail and steer a course efficiently!

    Stop that beeping!!! rc.sailing is so noisy!! But alot of fun...do they come in 26cc gassers?

    Isn't the Race Committee required to give an "All Clear" after a perfect start or is that not a common thing.

    everyone with the same design is boring...
    They should encourage open design, and compete at different conditions.
    The one who obtain the best time in all those conditions would be the winner, who knows.. maybe a great idea could come out from that which could be scaled to real sailboats.

      It is an open design class... www.sailing.org/classesandequipment/IOM.php

      This class does just this, the boats are not identical and hull shapes differ from boat to boat.
      Also if that's your opinion then you have never gone sailing. Restrictions are required to prevent the person with the most money from winning and even with tight rules this still happens. Identical hulls make it all about skill instead of who put the most money into their boat to make it ultra competitive.

      @@KnowledgePerformance7 I participate in many sailing races (in my language those are call Regatas, not sure what is the right translation for english) with big sailboats. Any sailboat could compete.. but we had handicap to make it fair, the handicap was calculated with an equation and after that, each time a sailboat won, the handicap for that special model raised. But there are many ways that you can allow talent competition in the same time than design innovation, of course you can have a bit more of talent competition instead construction, or you can have the other way around.. As I said (my opinion) I find more interesting when it has more of design than talent, even more at RC scale, because is cheaper. There is nothing wrong having the other way around. I just prefer that..
      So keep all your: "you must be ignorant" comments to your self.

    • @KnowledgePerformance7
      @KnowledgePerformance7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AngelLestat2 that is a fair angle, but I think at the rc scale doesn't make a ton of sense. I have sailed in plenty of handicap races out of marblehead and while I did enjoy them, I much prefer one design. I may of been a bit aggressive with my comment, sorry about that.

    • @AngelLestat2
      @AngelLestat2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KnowledgePerformance7 no, is ok.. TydalWind also pointing me that it was an open design class, so I thumb up his reply. Yeah, there is nothing best than equal model to just measure talent.. But I guess the competitions that really provide free style on the design contributes a lot to technology evolution.
      For example, what would happen if someone would made a lighter than air sail (similar to an airship) attached by a tether to a foil in the water, being the weight of the foil the one that keeps the height constant and counter lateral movement to advance forward.
      Or different design inspired from the vestas sailrocket, of course those design may have terrible performance with certain wave height or wind conditions, so the competition should also measure performance in different cirscustances, RC scale makes much easier to fast prototype without huge expenses, and these tournaments can provide so much insight to the sail industry.
      And yeah, my first comment looks like an statement, but it was just my personal point of view, nothing else.

      It is simply different, like comparing two musical instuments, violin or contrabass... Some pro Olimpic sailors can't beat pro RC sailors on their regatta in highly developed IoM class foe example, so let that soak in for you if you understand what it means... ;)
