Piece of advice, whenever you’re trying to clean up the contacts on a laminated circuit board, the best thing to use is a regular old pencil eraser

Thank you for sharing this. Just ordered my kit from white gauges today. I always wanted the 120 mph instead of the 85 mph.

Good work! I always felt the lights were too dim, so the solution is going LED or repainting to a more reflective color. I actually glued aluminum foil to the primary reflective surface and it made a world of difference! I can actually see how much fuel I have..lol.

      Interesting idea using the foil

@@Chavez1979 You have to remove cluster and check the circuit board to see if it has corrosion or broken copper connection. Start their first then and also check fuse box where it says instrument. Actually check the fuse first👌🏽

My Monte SS has the same sorry set-up regarding the back-lighting with twist-in incandescent bulbs. Looking into changing it to high intensity LED

Changing the mph is it still accurate driving?

I just used a different plate so I didn't mess up a 120 plate. The mechanism below it is calibrated for 120, and a 120 decal face was used. No change.

I need your help, I've ordered the cluster bulb twist sockets from 2 different companies that on their website it says direct fit, however they are bigger. Now Gbody Parts says I have a Canadian unit cluster. Never knew that if that is so. Do you know the size I need or where I can actually get the correct bulb sockets. I just replaced the circuit ribbon and waiting to put it back together. So mine is exactly like the one on this video you have here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ross

I never heard there was a difference. Are the old sockets still good? Just use them over with new bulbs.

@hutchhiperf I had the circuit repaired in the past and some of them were broken and do not tighten. So I'm not getting good contact.

I’ve had Rallye Clusters (and granny clusters) from 78-86, US, Canadian, Gas, and Diesel.
They all use basically the same exact plastic back housing, printed circuit board, bulbs and bulb sockets.
Whoever is telling you that is either looking at the wrong section/model in their parts catalog, or just wrong.
Matter of fact I’m looking at a 1983 Canadian, Diesel, Rallye Cluster right now and they are the same size, colors, and for the most part even have the same location layout of each bulb. I believe the only bulbs used are 161, 168, and 194.
I have a complete cluster bulb usage chart I can send a link to, if you want to be sure you have the right bulbs in each socket

    • @mostlypeacefulmisterputin

@@rossgarcia9699The plastic locking tabs on the sockets themselves are broken, or they’re just loose because the metal tangs aren’t making contact with the printed circuit board?
If it’s the latter and the plastic sockets are otherwise intact, take a small pick or flathead screwdriver, and get under the 2 terminals on each socket, and lightly bend them out away from the socket (if memory serves me correctly it’s best to do this while a bulb is in the socket).
Use a pencil eraser to clean all of the contacts (especially on the printed circuit board) Some people say they use scotch-brite , but there is a special coating on those contacts, scotch-brite will compromise that coating, which will cause connection issues down the road, and eventually a buildup of that familiar green corrosion we’ve all probably seen more than once
