I still haven't started on it but I have come up with my own Chapter. I'm half Korean and wanted to do something to with my heritage in mind. I decided I will do a Primaris founding in the flag colors of the Republic of Korea. 🇰🇷 I will use the four Trigrams as markings of battlefield role. The name came later since I was trying to figure out what words to use to make it RoK. I finally came up with "Rapture of Kings." There is some more details on the paint side but you folks get the idea. Lol
Awesome! Loving hearing how folks introduce there own or other cultures into their collections
That's a neat idea!
Have you seen Thunderwulfen's Soul Haunters? they are amazing. He went to Gibraltar I believe this year. So many people follow that look and style now.
Great video! Me and my brother-in-law created our own Guard regiment recently. They're the Derventians from the planet of Derventia, which was the Roman name for Derby (I'm from Derby). We're both Sharpe fans so they're based on the riflemen. Their fatigues are rifleman green, then the carapace armour is light grey and with bronze accents for trim, rank insignia etc. It was fun to come up with the fluff and colour scheme.
There is nothing I don’t love about this! Especially as you teased me in with ‘Riflemen’ and ‘Derby’ 😍👍
I love making up my own sub factions, to the point that last year I started a Blood Angels army, and now they're a successor chapter because I got bored painting everything in the "proper" colour scheme! Kill Team has proved a blessing for this too, so many opportunities for small numbers of weird models!
Keep up the fine work chaps!
This was great! I’ve enjoyed hearing Peach talk about the lore for his forces, so it was awesome to hear Peach talk through the process from lore to paint scheme. Also, the return of the cursed one thick coat marine in the ad was excellent.
Well now I know how I want to paint my 5 spare phobos marines 🥲
My homebrew called ‘Sons Of Marius’, name of the great general, the first ever in fact to unite his people and go on 7 great campaigns. After 40,000 years, things get mixed up and muddled you’d imagine so it’s a great way to show inspiration on your models, as well as a little head nod to those who may be able to share the injoke.
Oh and it took almost years until I got that name as it only came to me when I returned to hobby 😂
As a historian thank you so much for picking a location on a map as a way to have the lore write itself.
Great looking scheme. I love "gaming in the gaps" and playing around with the lore behind a force. My Space Marine Chapter are Dark Angels "Successors" but not by choice. They were Primaris reinforcements sent to the Chapter but their ship got lost on the way, diverted by Chaos shenanigans. They survived fighting in a rip in The Warp for decades before finally (Event Horizon style) getting spat out the other side. They encountered Imperial forces who, because they're armour was beat to crap (it's all just bare metal now) and they were covered in the trophies of their kills (skulls everywhere), they opened fire on them. The Forgotten (as they are called now) killed the Imperials and then found themselves hunted by the Dark Angels nearby who thought them traitors. Now they almost work as a renegade company - hunted by their Battle Brothers, the Inquisition and Xenos/Demon factions all vying to take them out.
Because of their dour and properly grimdark existence, they are led by Chaplains (even more skulls) and have a real focus on getting stuck in and beating their foes in close combat. Going to work in lots of Dreadnoughts to add to that fatalistic side to them.
I started with lore, then colors for my homebrew chapter.
When the primarisening happened i couldn't think of a better time to introduce a chapter of all women as one of Cawl's many many experiments. I picked Blood Angels for their primogenitor legion as one of the details from the Heresy was the sheer adaptability of the BA/Sanguinius genes. The saying being that the ascension process took anyone, no matter how chemically or genetically different and made them into Angels.
From there I decided to stick with red as an easy color to paint when I am not a great painter. I blended some black gradients in since I wanted the relationship of the chapter to the black rage to be very close and ever present. My chapter master is kind of a play off of Gabby Seth so I liked having some Flesh Tearers vibes.
The blood drop iconography common to BA successors gave me my last twist and my chapter name. I wanted to take that icon and make it blue and shiny like a teardrop instead. So my chapter is the Tears of the Sanguinius and I have incorporated the shiny blue "tear" color as part of the chapter colors in trims and details like aquilas.
There’s just something so satisfying about watching someone being really good at their job. Every colour you add looks so sharp and neat, and Pats crisp camera work only emphasises it further. Another great video gents!
I spent yesterday making various waterslide decals for shoulder pads in my Leviathan box actually, and settled on a simple broken black heart icon. I did the first tester yesterday, settling on a sort of green/blue transition. I called them The Emperor's Sorrow.
Great video, gives a well laid out, easy to follow guide.
One big 'don't' that i discovered is just trying to squeeze your favourite colours into a scheme without much thought, it doesn't really work to have ALL the shades of blue on one model....
Particularly loved the sponsored section, adding humour is a great way to improve the ad experience
I’ve had several Space Marine forces since 3rd Ed and had always done a known chapter (Ultramarines, Black Templars) so once I returned to the hobby in the middle of 8th edition I thought why not create my own. So I’ve created the Castellans of Luria, a Primaris founded Chapter tasked with guarding Segmentun Solar against incursions emanating from the Sirens Storm. Of Imperial Fist genestock they are expert void combatants and excel in boarding actions using their heavy Gravis armour. Although they were formed under strength, with only 6 Companies, they show the grim resolve of their forefather to do their duty.
Colour scheme is a dark red with no company specific markings (like the Crimson Fists), a black grey for the shoulder pads and veteran helmets, veteran sergeants having a yellow stripe on their helmets. Custom decals were sourced for the Chapter symbol (great quality and a good price) with the right shoulder pad sporting the tactical, assault etc symbol with the squad number on them.
Really enjoyed coming up with their lore, drawing inspiration from a variety of places and even adding to it after notable battles or events, I wholeheartedly agree with your point of not being too specific and writing yourself into a corner which you then have to retcon.
Late to the party here. I've created a successor chapter of the Dark Angels called the Steel Lions.
They are painted Grey with Green. The leaders and Terminators all have 3d printed Lions head right shoulderpads except for the Chapter Master who wears it on his left.
Always LOVE custom army videos because I find each creator has similar yet completely diffrent approaches to how they go about it and it's so much fun to see
I'm in a bit of a bind with my own custom chapter because they're Nightlords blue, with dark grey puldrons, silver trim yellow eyes and Kahki weapons/some markings but I don't know what color to us to get some highlights on the armor because one wrong shade and it could be mistaken for a form of Ultramarine successor when they're an experiment to replicate the space wolves but with other ferocious animals
As a offshoot to the Raven Guard I made my own Chapter and called it the Regal Ravens , which instead of Grey Black I painted as a selection of Blues, making then a tad familiar as a sort of Wolf Marines.
this was a great video, i love customising my color schemes and its great to not feel so stupid making my own stuff lol
My home-brew were the Scarlet Janissaries. I painted a handful of tests and i was determined to use red and white. I surprised myself by using teal as a cloak colour. The problem was freehanding painted sailing ships as their icon.
I came up with my Tau army's whole colour scheme and faction (Sept) because I found a couple of old Fire Warriors I'd painted as a kid and decided I'd try and do a "proper" version of it as a challenge. They were wearing Green armour with Orange fatigues which is... unconventional, let's say, but after a bit of brain wracking I realised it made for a pretty good scrubland/savannah camouflage scheme with a bit of tweaking. That informed all the subsequent variations, basing and even conversions as a result, making my army really feel like "my" army :)
I love coming up with homebrew colour schemes. For Space Marines I currently have 3 on the go...
The Tange Marines are Space Marines from the planet Tange and wear bright orange armour. They have some odd ideas about their place in Imperial history which may or may not be true. Their armour is trimmed with green so company colours are worked into their tactical markings instead of being displayed on their pauldron trim.
The Thousand Blades on the other hand are a new chapter, from the Ultima Founding. They were dark red armour, to honour the Adeptus Mechanicus who saved the chapter from a gene seed mutation that threatened its existence. They paint their entire right arms in the colour of their company and paint weapon casings in their old chapter colour of white.
The Hawks of Imperial Retribution wear blue armour that is so dark it is nearly black, save for their pauldrons that are bright yellow. They are notoriously taciturn around outsiders but are rumoured to be far fewer in number than most chapters are, and are primarily seen fielding very old battlegear.
One of my favourite ways to pick colour schemes is pop culture, movies, games, comics etc. And sometimes I just pick 1 colour and figure out the rest when I'm painting.
Really like the battle damage you added to the armour. Had not realised it was relatively straight forwards
The angles of pegalation. Or any other peg thing doer name is very good
So I switched from Orks to Eldar following Phil Kelly's annihilation of them with his codex release where he costed Orks the same as Space Marines but took away all of their quirkiness. At the time I had a complete army to paint and I was not going to do all the little tricks I did with the Orks. So I gave them metallic colours for the armour and flat colours for helmets, weapons and trim. The first colour I used was Tin Bitz for the Guardians and I worked it into every vehicle colour scheme also. The other figures just coloured themselves, like bronze for the Fire Dragons with red helmets and guns. Metallic green for the Scorpions with yellow trim and I had a ball with the dred's and mandi's. And so on with the flat colours toning down the metallics to a decent finish. The name of the force started off with Illiandius as the Craftworld returning from the edges of the universe. Ceth'Arial was the Autarch in charge. However the names have changed with the force being called Rince Wind in homage to a great author. And the Autarch is now called Felonious. The Warlock Conclave became Cerberus or a lone Warlock called Suspiscius. Naturally the Spiritseer is called Lachrymose which I thought was dead funny. And so the fun goes on.
They can live on the Fortress Monastery, "The Pegging"
That'd be what they called their way of making war ;)
The paint scheme looks good.
Shapeways has 100's of printed shoulder pads designs on their site. They have alot of other bits too.
Before pulling it out of the scabbard was comical perfection 😂😂
Love the Orange and white. Really like the idea of doing the Phobos marines in a different colour. Might steal that idea when I finally get around to painting my own Primaris marines :-)
I’m starting up a thousand sons thrallband called the “prescient scion” where their whole this is that the scour the warp for prophecies that will cause the most change in a situation, good or bad. My color scheme for them right now is a light jade/ sea green trim with burgundy details and tarnished gold for the metals. Absolutely love them.
Loved the video! Awesome hearing peachy talk about his lore and process. I have my Ashen Angels (blood angels successor). Grey with red shoulders and the name/ lore came after painting my test models!
Yeah it’s amazing how things just come together
Amazing results with realistic methods, this feels super approachable. Thanks for sharing it with the community!
Got my idea for (off)black and Green halved marines.. nothing to do with the “biscuits”.. with Khorne red bolters (they shoot faster 😉 ) and silver/purple(?) Aquila…
Warpstone ends up too dark., and moot is too flat.. (mootstone..??)
Maybe Striking Scorpion over…rakarth so they don’t look glowy 😅
But then there’s the robes and special marines… 🤔
Something I like to use for testing colors is the Space Marine video game on my PC, it may be old but a few games of the Multiplayer, and you unlock color customization, and it is PERFECT for getting the base colors down
This was a very helpful video, love the paint scheme, love the lore part as well. Good tip for not restricting yourself. Keep it up and have a lovely day.
I've added a comment every time I've paused to appreciate something in this video. Love the way you turned the algorithm joke into lore, and I immediately knew there'd be some iron hands love. Also, Wayland Gains needs to be a recurring character. For the glory of the emperor and the algorithm!
I rarely leave youtube comments but these look awesome! Hats off guys, love the content 👌
Great video, love the colour scheme! Especially like the covert option 👌
Excellent stuff. Love these painting videos.
Absolutely loved this video!
Great video! You inspired my next paint project.
Ive got an idea of a more "good guys" version of Iron Hands that im working on a color scheme for. The main indicator I was looking for was big brite blue so you immediately pick up on them potentially tied to Ultramarines. I like the idea of a champter of veteran soldiers who have needed prosthetic cybernetics due to rough injuries in battle, taking the concept of the cybernetic hands of the Iron Hands to more of a benevolent direction and giving honorable marines more life on the battlefield. I like the notion of their connection to vehicles because of the implications of "your body has been disadvantaged, but through the power of technology you can overcome anything".
I've always been surprised there's no armies painted like a hobbiests favourite sports team
I wouldn’t want to pass the curse onto my marines tbh.
Ok, that Wayland ad made me laugh out loud. Great work Pat. As for the actual content of the video, I love any video where Peachy tells me what to do.
I really enjoyed this video! The music really worked and set a nice vibe ❤
Great video, I like that you showed the process including different colour schemes before the one you settled on
It’s one of my favourite parts of the hobby I think, trying out colours and ideas
Looks great big peach
My friend has an awesome custom space marine faction he calls "The Bronze Knights." It's very well painted and I beg him all the time to post about them but he never does lol.
Head canon is so much fun!
Did an ultra sucessor Sions of Salomon, Bobby ordering Captain Salomon Strife to found a new chapter exploring the wisdom and knowledge of the first born with the power of the primaris building new Tactics.
The custom chapters are the ones that I enjoy the most, as it tells you more about the players. I made my own Adepta Sororitas Order, the Order of the Doomed Hospitaler, base around the offhand observation that their tabard style resembled Doctor Victor Doom from Marvel comics. I then made up my own Ad-Mech chapter based on my favorite American football team (the Tennessee Volunteers) so I could use their colors and also name them the most horrible punny name possible (they are the Volunteers of the Tesla Sea). Both of which, I guess, tell you I have a really rotten sense of humor.
Absolutely LOVE this color scheme!
lovely video, thanks lads!
i sort of had this headache when trying to plan out my Blood Ravens. they're an established chapter, but aren't detailed as completely as the main line ones so had to figure out what i was going to do to fill out my collection. also facing having to do this for my Necron Dynasty, as i wanted them to have been absorbed into Sautekh but still show a couple flashes of their previous namesake!
Absolutely love calling the colors of the US flag the "Star spangled tones" and I'm referring to them forever more as such, in reference to the flag. Sorry, in reference to the star spangled tones
Loved the video!
When I made up my homebrew chapter, it was color first. Basically I love the Salamanders but I hate green, so I painted my guys oxidized brass. I just wanted every model to have a flamer or variant, so it ended up being almost all firstborn. I ended up replacing their power mauls and thunder hammers with bells, I call them The Brazen Carhillon, their whole shtick is that they guard a cemetery world for saints. Very much inspired by Velstadt from Dark Souls II
Oh sweet! I love this concept, cracking job
Love the video and the color scheme. One short cut I've used to land on a color scheme without a lot of work is to take a look at professional sports teams. Their brand is a sizable part of their identity and the color schemes look great. Painted up a fair share of Minnesota Vikings-inspired wizards for D&D tabletop because purple, gold, and white look great together. Great video!
Ooh nice shout 👍👍👍
the pinting vidare your best stuff, you really dont make enough painting vids.
We are trying to get the balance, the interviews all came in at once.
My custom Chaos Space Marine force was the Crown Breakers. Purple armor, gold trim as a play on the royalty theme. The lore is, as a Slaanesh worshiping warband, they prefer to come to a planet, take out the leadership and then watch as the world descends into chaos.
Oh look! It's Peachy from the painting phase!
I loved the highbrow painting scene
Thanks Peachy, I love the way you lay things out so logically and deliver it so compassionately. I do painting to escape the pressures of the real world and it is so easy to get up tight about how it goes, you always so calmly remind that it is OK whatever you do. Thank you.
It’s a pleasure to be of any assistance, though I’d never described me as any of those lovely comments lol 😂👍
This is really great. I’ve never been able to stick with anything homebrew; as I struggle to come up with new ‘lore’ and colour schemes. I do quite like following schemes therefore, but changing up small details. My Celestial Vindicators spot colour for example (gems, plumes, banners) is purple for example, or for my 4th Company Ultramarines its Cryptek Armourshade Gloss over Gold to get the really burnished basecoat and wash, before tidying up and highlighting!
A lot of the tips in this video are ones I used for an Imperial Guard colour scheme inspired by the Marines in Halo 3! It's all really good and helpful advice, and I'm really pleased with the results so far!
I
Love
Painting Phase videos!
Just because they are so fun, to listen to and watch. I mean they are useful too but I'm basically all about listening in here while I paint, and you guys for sure carry the mood to keep my brush going.
Aww thanks 😍😍😍
These look so COOOL!!! Thanks for the vid guys?
Flaming skull with lots of text on armour and not Word Bearers? Heresy! 😅
I did a Chaos Space Marine Slaanesh renegade chapter with torso purple wash over light grey, black trim, pink weapons and black legs with pink pinstripes, did a squad before I swore never to paint pinstripes again 😂
Yes, finally! PAINTING video on PAINTING Phase!!!!
I mean we have had a few less this month granted, but two this week. And it is a play on words as it’s also for the viewers painting phase at home.
A painting video!!! Love it man 🤌
Crimson Raptors a Raven Guard successor Chapter. Where we go, death follows.
My colors are primarily black and red arms and green for the eyes, grey for sergeants. My phobos librarian has light blue robes with dark blue everywhere else and the powersword is a lime green. I'm planning on converting the primaris chaplain into the Chapter Master. To mak him stand out his jump pack will have wings and not a single bit of gold
Nicely done.
Cool video Mr. Peach, as always you paint like a real person paints, and you give lots of really useful tips to help get the job done. Not a colour scheme I think many people would have chosen, but there's lots of invaluable advice to personalise your models an develop your own lore. Top Job sir !!!
Thanks Ted, as always I appreciate your support 😘👍
They look awesome! Colors are great. Once I "finish" my Imperial Fists I really would like to do a homebrew successor chapter for them. I know there's tons of them out there but they're my favorite!
Really enjoyable and inspirational video. Loved the journey from concept to test minis to final products. A limited colour palette always helps nail down a scheme with coherency across an army.
I've also used sports kits and motor sports schemes for inspiration in the past. Anywhere there's been some dedicated design you'll find some good ideas.
Great video! Hope we get to see more of this chapter in future videos… and that ad was another amazingly fun part of the watch!
Cheers Gary, glad you enjoyed the silly ad read too
Great video and scheme!
my colour scheme is leadbelcher with caliban green detailing and when it came to my scout type units i done similar to what you've done here where the phobos/scout units are done in grey instead of silver to help denote that they're not wanting to stand out
Great scheme and some great tips. I love homebrew chapters and seeing how different people add to the grimdark future. I've got a homebrew on the go called The Bone Vultures influenced by Tibetan Buddhism, they started life as a mortifactor chapter then progressed into their current form, now lore-wise they are a space wolves successor similar to wolfspears with a heavy bird/vulture and bone influence to their armour gubbins
Great videography in this episode. Makes me want a Sergio Calvo style video of Peachy painting tactical pegs.
Haha! Not a terrible idea for a video lol
This was great as always!
My successors are the Void Watchers with metallic purple armor and silver decorations such as the imperialis.
You chapters symbol is giving me heavy word bearers vibe.
For symbols, buy some waterslide decal paper and just print your own. A single sheet can fit a couple of company's worth of chapter insignia with room for squad, campaign, special markings etc.
Ooh that’s a great shout!
Both of my Chapters are home brew. I love the story telling side of the hobby so making my own chapter really hits home for me. I have the Sanguine Reapers (all Primaris), Blood Angels successors, and Scions Resolute (all first born).
Very cool stuff
Love makin custom stuff. My Iron Wardens and Order of the Eternal Vigil, being my faves.
Love it. This is something I'm very excited to get to. I'm not there yet, but am really enjoying the process
These look excellent!
Phobos marine looked absolutely sick peachy, love the dark colors
Hell yea! My homebrew Forge World also uses the best color scheme (Orange White and Black) 😄
Awesome video! Making a custom space marine chapter has always been my favorite part of the hobby. It gives the tabletop experience a roleplaying feel. Also I love the orange. My space marine chapter is similar with a bone white armor with orange and yellow highlights. Thanks so much for your content! Presently working on admech. Would love to see you paint admech combat patrol. Have a great day!
Great vid. Very useful. Made my own Salamanders successor called The Steel Drakes and ill be using some of your tips
This might be my favourite non-Sidetracked video yet. I really enjoyed the process and explanations. I’d love to see more videos like this, even for established colour schemes or factions as you put your own personal spin on them.
Hmm…..I like this idea. Leave it with us
Nice color scheme. I mostly stick to established schemes. But im coming up with a custom scheme for my Stormcast
You got me to watch the entire sponsorship section. Well done. Take note, potential sponsors. Great stuff.
The power of Captain WAYLAND GAINS!!
Wow. Incredible. I think this really raises the bar.
Wayland games advert break was amazing!!! 😂
Nice little video this. Thank you. I love doing custom home brew armies (guard in particular), and its great to see this encouraged. There are too many ultramarine armies out there and not every guardsmen with a gasmask has to be from Krieg.
I tend to start with a conversion idea and a theme inpsired by something ive stumbled across (historical period, a scene from a film, piece of art) and go from there and work out paint scheme later. Though sometimes a bad paint job test model had completely derailed a project. Names though tend to be something that i stumbke across. My custom marines are named after a faction from Starcraft, the Sons of Korhul, but replacing the sons with knights.
praetorians of the pegs! nice video - its always a struggle coming up with colour schemes - huge amount of stuff about it online that can be overwhelming - its nice to have something that's straight forward about it
I have a homebrew blood angels successor chapter called the Revenant Guard, their main colors are black with gold and veteran marines have entirely gold left arm armor. Also their death company are a slate grey with red death company markings to pay homage to the original revenant legion color scheme
Awesome topic for today
This is almost the exact color scheme I have been using on my Leviathan box models. Differences are Main body: Orange, Shoulders: Black, aquila and trim Bone or Gold, with the apothecary in bone. Helmets are also orange, but vets and bone, and sergeants are black, I love what you did with the Phobos guy, and am heavily considering repainting him, but will probably leave him as is.
