    Hey Adrian. I'm going through this series bit late - but I'm loving it. I'm getting the engine itch just from watching your progress! Looking forward to catching up to date. Cheers, Craig

    Another superb video Ade. It is really helping me get my head around the sort of work needed on these Stuart models, which seems ideal for people like me starting out in "proper" engineering. Up till now I've made do with my micro Unimat ML which is good for miniature work, but I plan to invest in a proper lathe and eventually a mill, with the lathe mostly likely being acquired in the spring when my new workshop will be done!

    G’day Ade, Great video, excellent presentation all you need now is to create more room for the table travel, hmm, another shed extension maybe.

    I can't decide whether it's camera shake or your X-axis gibs are loose at the 25 minute mark, you give it some welly to check the 5 7/16" dimension and it looks like the table wobbles back and forth! Like the method for datum fixing by the way.
    ATB,
    John

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John . the gibs are tip top . it is the tripod moving on my shed floor as my weight shifts winding the handle , also the image stabilisation on the camera freaks out a bit , Cheers Ade.

      @@ade63dug Thanks for the explanation (here and in episode three). Thought it had to be something akin to that. By the way, take no heed of the criticism of the workholding, I included a disclaimer in my videos too, being a self-trained (or not) workshop gnome.

    Thanks for sharing the project Ade, I'm sure I'll learn plenty. Just a thought on the fixture plate, if you banged a couple of M12 threaded holes in the bottom of it could you bolt it to the 246 block and not have to use the clamps?

  • @pauls5745

    I'm currently doing an S50 myself, and wish my soleplate was as true as yours haha. it's shrunk in the casting in many places in the parts and some cases .023 smaller than spec. I was disappointed in the quality of the castings and kind of burned out on Stuart models now so I have other projects I started

    Hi Ade. At 26.20 on the video, your milling table is moving forwards and backwards as you are winding the X axis. Are you sure your gibs are set correctly? All the best. Jim.

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim . yes gibs are fine it is the floor moving under the tripod as i shift my weight . the image stabilisation on the camera freaks out a bit . Cheers Ade.

    Between 25:30 and 25:50 then again a bit later (sanity check crankshaft to boss distance) it looked like the mill table was wobbling in time with your use of the handwheel. It didn't look like you were bumping the camera and the rest of the mill seemed steady, so is the table gib a bit loose ?

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike . Good observation . The gib is fine it is the tripod moving with the floor as I shift my weight back and fore winding the handle. Cheers Ade.

    • @daviddunbar5754
      @daviddunbar5754 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've just watched this and had the same thought. If you watch it then the rest of the mill is not moving, reference to the vice behind. If the tripod was moving then the whole frame would move.

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daviddunbar5754 Interesting. I can only put it down to the image stabilisation playing tricks with the shot when moving . The gib is perfectly fine , Cheers Ade.

    • @daviddunbar5754
      @daviddunbar5754 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ade63dug Hi Ade, my experience has been with normal photography and image stabilisation is done using a moving element within the lens.I've now done some research and the newer EIS system used in modern video cameras looks at the stable elements at the periphery of the frame and stabilises to them. I now see why the the table wobbles. Isn't technology great. I therefore apologise for saying otherwise . Keep up the great work. Dave.

    Nice job so far Ade. Back to fraction school for you me thinks.......... you better book 2 seats as I will need to come too. Frustrating isn't it, I used to know pretty much all of them and their metric equivalents, all a distant memory. Looking good on fathoming out the casting to get the best fit, always fun. Cheers, Jon
