      you should make a mussel loaded version of this, using brass tubing as a barrel then using a similar setup to shoot but use a nylon cap behind the dart so it wont explode, and use more flash cotton to give it more power, maybe even use a revolving capacsiter holder that not only holds multiple shots but also recharges them

    You need to stuff a slightly slower burning charge into the nose. It will ignite after the nitrocellulose and act as base bleed or like a sustainer motor, and significantly increase the range. You could also fashion some sort of converging/diverging nozzle to tuck into the end to optimize specific impulse, that should increase the range too.

      this was my first thought as well. it would also have the added benefit of increased accuracy since the flash cotton would be mostly expended before the dart left the tube, so it would work less as a rocket with no fins and more as a launched projectile that uses the body of the dart for stability.

    The problem you were having with the bulk of the combustible methods was a lack of oxidizer. "A syringe full of gasoline" isn't going to do a whole lot without being well mixed with air. A gas engine has to essentially mist gasoline into a volume of air, that is then compressed and ignited.
    The guncotton chemically "has it's own air" and doesn't require a whole lot else to go bang.

    This actually has a pretty interesting practical use. With something like this you could design an airsoft gun with no charging mechanism. All airsoft guns need to pull a spring back, electronically spin a wheel launcher, or use some other manual mechanism because the darts aren't self propelling. With this you could make practical airsoft guns that have basically as many limits as a conventional one. We could finally see a true lever action airsoft, a break action airsoft, or a full auto without whirring noises. Has great commercial potential (as well as great video topic potential)

    You could use the capacitors themselves as a propellant. Just apply a voltage higher than the limit and they pop. ElectroBoom already taught us

  • @XenXenOfficial
    @XenXenOfficial ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You could probably 3D print some sorta inner housing with tubing that could divert the gasses in a more optimized way to increase thrust 🤔

    using needle felting you can pack substantially more flash cotton in a single dart, making it potentially go significantly further than a regular nerf gun.

    Now with this, you can make pretty much a nerf gun that doesn’t even use a plunger, rather a hammer and firing pin

  • @turbojax07
    @turbojax07 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bet that the darts could also be used with most actual nerf guns! With the capacitor-based one, you could just put a bunch of cotton into all of your ammo. Then, you just use those darts as you would normally, but if need be, you load the capacitor into it.

      "Most and Best hidden nerf guns engineering competition"
      and simply but you will run short obstacle course and stop in front of Judges who then say how many guns/pullets you have and your job is to get them say One and then pull 20 different gun totaling 300 shots 😏 the obstacle course is to make an example that you can still move with all that stuff and are not some T-Posing character.

    My suggestion for the flash cotton nerf "gun" is to give it tubing so that all the combustion of the flash cotton will be directed forward to the rubber tip of the dart, so that the foam body of the dart doesn't have to experience excessive pressure.

    • @JoelCreates
      @JoelCreates  ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried this, but pressure still builds inside the body as it begins moving down the tube and can burst

  • @nuttyDesignAndFab
    @nuttyDesignAndFab 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    for the flash powder ones: if you have a longer tube inside with slippery sides you'll get better energy transfer. could also reinforce the dart on the inside, that way 2 tight fitting tubes of controlled friction would probably help give you the longest shot.

    new idea: invent a way to fire it with a delay, and then launch it out of an electric blaster, so that you get a mid air range boost.

    Imagine shooting one and it just falls onto the ground.
    - Haha! You missed!
    - I didn't.
    - What?
    And then bullet launches itself to the enemy.

    add some kind kind of mechanism that will hit the button when you pull the trigger on the gun so you don't need springs or electric motors to fire it. Find a way to make the blowback from the nerf bullet reset the trigger, consider a more explosive combustion material and maybe reinforce the bullet with metal instead of tape. This has potential to change the way we fight wars.
