  • Quick video on how I converted my 1991 Mk2 Scirocco from a 2.0L 16v ABF engine to a 1.8T 20v AGU engine.
    The procedure is pretty much the same for all A1 VW chassis vehicles - mk1 golf, scirocco, jetta etc
    All in the swap took around 2 months to do (I was lucky enough to have most parts to hand already) and in the grand scheme of things it is not a hard conversion at all. The car is my daily driver and i’ve done a out 20000 miles on this setup absolutely hassle free engine wise!
    If you are undergoing a similar conversion on your classic VW and have some questions don’t hesitate to drop a comment below and i’ll do what I can to help. You can also contact me and follow me on the socials, mainly through instagram @mk2daz
    Thanks for watching, please like comment subscribe and share, it helps the channel out a lot!
    Cheers
    Daz

    I like when a project is completed. Great job. And you’ve answered a few questions I have. Particularly the fitting of the 02a transmission on the 1.8t.

    Nice one🔥 i did the same in Germany with K04 turbo. Best budget swap out there. Keep going!

    Very nice, I really recommend new rods for 1.8T builds ( one of the weakest links)

    Hey, I am looking to swap my Mk3 with a ABF, but have also been considering a 1.8t... Can you outline their pros and cons? I would imagine the 1.8t is slightly more expensive to install. Reliability? Parts availability?

    When you dropped the engine and trans in did you drop them in together or separate? I’m doing a swap right now and I’m worried that there won’t be enough room to squeeze them both in while they’re linked together.

    • @mk2daz
      @mk2daz  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They go in together absolutely fine 👍🏻

    Hey there! What is your fuel pump setup looks like? Im running an AUQ in my rocco.

    • @mk2daz
      @mk2daz  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! So i run a 55L carb tank, with a fuel injected model lift pump to draw it from the tank, this then fills a plastic swirl pot that you would also find on a fuel injected scirocco/mk1 golf, i then have a K-Jet bosch main pump that pulls it from the swirl pot, through a fuel filter then into the engine bay to the fuel rail. Hope that helps!

    • @NorbertRuff
      @NorbertRuff ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mk2daz Thx for the answer! I also use a lift pump + a passat 35b main pump but it is a bit complicated i think, and want to convert it to run only from a single pump that is in the tank.

    Where'd ya find that pipe with the two ports on it between the 90deg on the turbo and the 90deg by the ignition amp? Is that something custom?

    • @mk2daz
      @mk2daz  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah thats custom, basically just a straight bit of 63mm alloy with 2 ports welded in. My ignition amplifier is also relocated to behind the front grille so its constantly cooled by flowing air 👍🏻

    I need to know what type of motor mount you used (I HAVE 1986 MK2 SCIROCCO)

    • @mk2daz
      @mk2daz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I used epytec conversion mounts, for the engine mount and the side and rear gearbox mounts, the front gearbox mount next to the starter motor you can just use original mount - hope that helps!

    I am doing the same on my GTI Mk2. What throttle body did you use?

    • @mk2daz
      @mk2daz  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just the standard 1.8T throttle body. Or do you mean the throttle cable?

    • @MadAdventure919
      @MadAdventure919 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mk2daz throttle body.. also I am converting to G60 hubs with 5x100 and Mk4 GTI front disk setup. I just don't know if the 288x25mm disk will fit. The calipers are plug in play.

    What engine mounts and brackets was used?

    • @mk2daz
      @mk2daz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can use the standard scirocco front mount. The engine mount and side gearbox mount is an Epytec item. The rear gearbox is also an epytec item but varies on 02J/02A gearboxes, the rubber mount on the rear however i used a mk1 diesel mount as they are slightly beefier and can handle the extra weight no problem. Hope that helps!

    What happened to the abf engine?

    • @mk2daz
      @mk2daz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spun a big end bearing, not sure exactly why, maybe clogged up oil pickup pipe or oil starvation while cornering, the car was seeing its fair share of abuse on a highlands road trip when it happened
