Mannnn, with Nintendo, returning this beast game on the switch, I've been searching up remixes of the soundtrack, and i found this! You're the best, my dude! Crazy how the crustyness of the N64 hardware gave the soundtracks that stank and bass crust, which gave it that grittier tone and feel to the game. Crazy!
I heard the main theme on TH-cam somewhere years ago and have not been able to find it lately. I've never heard the prototype versions of the other songs before. Thank you!
Wow, these sound way better than they did on the n64 with exclusion for Simian Acres, something about the n64's sound processing. I recognize some of the sounds as Roland SC series samples like that metalic "clong" in Elec (from a SC-55Pro possibly???), but others are definitely straight from some Yamaha keyboard without mixing, Yamaha midi devices tend to be very... "crunchy"? "sharp"? "harsh"? You have to filter them to get something more pleasant if you're mixing with other instruments.
Graeme’s old website mentions a bit of hardware information: “Early Versions of Level Tunes are name "Midi Versions", they were written exclusively on a Yamaha SY77, and an old but loved Akai S3000, with a whopping 10 megs of sample memory”.
I find the part at 28:11 very interesting it's from the one level with the Skyfall but this is sounding like a chase or something you know like "escaping" (is that how you say it😅) the virtual world or something and even in mdmi or normal this is my favorite part of that level
Mate if you want...wanna try and play against a german boy blast corps like whoever finishes the game first in a lets play Series im little rusty since i lost the game a year ago but im keeping an average skill with an Emulator on my phone :sad truth i was never able to beat 100%😅( but i had a perfekt run in shuttle gully i dont remember how good but i masterd that stage like a speedrunner at one point)

Glory crossing. Too bad the critical themes are not in midi
