Yep, the Lexus has its own issues as far as being competitive. There is a reason why Cadillac sells the same amount of Escalades in 1 month in the US as Lexus sells of LX in a whole year.
Lexus quality, finish and ride quality is on another level. No Toyota can match that. Also, dealerships are foolishly asking inflated prices on Sequoias at this point. Current Sequoia is a disappointment for a number of reasons, the list is too long.

David, Because there are no cheap, full-size 4X4s, I would say the SR5 Sequoia could be considered a 'bargain' as was the previous generation. The one I have in mind is the relatively basic 300 Series with 4.0 V6 and locking rear, centre and front differentials. I believe it sells for around $60-65,000 US. ;-)

great reviews ! I am confused between TRD PRO & Platinum as I'll be driving on road 90-95% , I am wondering if TRD PRO's ride quality is worse than Sequoia Platinum on road?
If you put street tires instead of off road tires on the TRD, it will probably ride better than the platinum. The 22 inch wheels on the platinum hurt the ride quality. Although it probably handles a little better.
Lx is build in Japan, Sequoia in the US. That fact alone makes them Worlds apart. Also, the Sequoia significantly larger which makes it less nimble and tougher to maneuver in urban environments and off-road. This is apples to oranges comparison.
If Lexus make LX 600 longer and offers hybrid, then I will buy Lexus. Otherwise, I will go with Sequoia... but I am not in the market for another year so hope Lexus will do it
My friend just traded in an old Sequoia and bought a new one. He is somewhat frustrated with the ride quality due to the fact that the rear suspension is no longer independent and the sound of the new engine is quite unpleasant compared to the previous 8-cylinder…Especially given the more than three times difference in price between his five-year-old car and a new one.
One key drawback for the Sequoia is the uneven load floor of the cargo area (due to under floor housing of the hybrid battery). Having an interchangeable load shelf is too cumbersome and doesn't entirely resolve the load floor issue. Many overlanders like a flat load floor to carry larger cargo and to accommodate overnight stays on trail (TRD Pro). If/when Lexus rolls out their IMax hybrid version, hopefully they will avoid this cargo floor issue... especially with slightly more limited cargo capacity. I still say the new J300 Land Cruiser (especially the GR), is the best looking design of all three. Alas, I wish Toyota would re-release in the US market...pretty please?!! I guess most people are only interested in mall crawling and highway hauling in these vehicles. Too bad, for they are some of the most capable and reliable sand and trail running trucks on the road today.

like toyota went back to a soild rear axel , just wish there was 2 row for us who have no need or want a 3rd row, as a car camper overlander we want cargo space and payload
What about the cabin noise when driving? I know that Sequoia has noise dampening on the front windows but NOT the rear. How do the LX and Sequoia compare?
I like the full-time AWD on the Lexus LX 600 which is no longer available on the Sequoia (I hope Toyota will make full-time AWD an option on future Sequoias). That said, the Sequoia has more interior space and has the same engine/transmission that the Lexus has--and you can get the adaptive hydraulic suspension as an option on the Sequoia. Either SUV will be expensive, but the Sequoia will satisfy most people who don't require a full-time AWD system.
It is the fact that Toyota offers more for the less money with better interior, more space and even more features as panoramic roof, bigger display, sliding steps and finally hybrid engine!
The 2023 Sequoia just became available to build in the last few weeks in my area (North Georgia), and there are only 2 model options: RWD SR5, and TRD Pro 🤨
@@AutomotivePress maybe, but I find it very odd as good as Toyota is at building cars and trucks why so many problems by now one would think Toyota would have things ironed out
Most reviews of the new Sequoia and LX have been lukewarm. Sequoia has some iffy packaging and the new solid axle has sacrificed ride quality, as per C&D and Alex on Autos. While Savagegeese has panned the driving manners of the LX. That's quite disappointing since Toyota and Lexus had 15 years to get this right out of the gate. Also not a good look as both are flagship SUVs.
Thats a pretty misleading statement to say most have been lukewarm. Raiti’s Rides, Redline, TFl, Doug Demuro all with a million plus subscribers and numerous others have said it was quite good.
Despite being huge, the Sequoia and LX600 have relatively limited interior room. That plus the lack of full time 4wd on the Sequoia are the two biggest negatives that have me looking at competitors instead.
It’s really not bargain because dealers are charging 20K to 25K markups and 4 to 8 months here in northeast. I rather get a Lexus LX600 for adding another 5K.
If the Lexus shares THAT much with the Sequoia…then why the heck is the LX so expensive? This is the most genius consumer behavioral psychological play, I’ve seen lately. The Toyota whisperer comes out to tell us, we should consider this vehicle a bargain, because it shares 60% of its parts with the Luxury version. It’s like saying the iHop steak comes from the same cow as the Ruth Chris steak so we can give you a bargain at $35 instead of $60. That just makes the Ruth Chris steak overpriced! Not the other way around! I’m a lifetime Yota purchaser. Still balling my 2004 TSS Tundra, 2008 Camry, and 2019 Camry. But you’re not pulling the wool over my eyes with this one. The pricing structure of the Sequoia just doesn’t makes sense to me. The comparison in my opinion should be with its twin the Tundra. It’s a third row sibling! You telling me, SR5 Tundra starts at $41k and a “hacked together” third row with extended roof is worth an extra $17k @ $58k? Man, please. The previous generation in my opinion was in the right spot, with a better but still NOT good third row situation. Anyone tried the Telluride third row? Sweet! Yeah, I get it, you can only pull 5500 lbs. But it seats the SAME amount of people “better”, saves more gas, and in my opinion is more functional inside the cabin, with more features. I’ve driven others and keep coming back to it. You can get the best of the best with the Nightfall package AND Prestige Package for less than the plain SR5 price, at the right dealership. This has options that are matched with Range Rover (ie alcantara material). Go ahead, come at me with the quality argument. Kia/Hyundai have just about caught up, and have better warranties all the way around. I also saw a stupid poster saying, “the people complaining are the ones that can’t afford it…” 😑 Simply, I can. I don’t want to spend $60k on mediocre. In marketing it’s so-called Value Proposition. This weird “bargain” take didn’t land it for me. He could have at least blamed it on inflation or hard to get parts, cost of rising payrolls, etc… “We put these same parts in our luxury brand!” Just tells me, the luxury brand is an even worse rip off! Man, let me go…😂
Yeah, the price increase in the Sequoia is SHOCKING, even after accounting for the standard hybrid powertrain. I also agree that the LX is an even worse deal. The Sequoia is bigger, looks better inside and out (I think), and has that hybrid powertrain for less. But I do think there are better three-row BOF SUVs options out there.
SR5 tundra doesn’t come in the hybrid engine right? I think that’s where some of your $17k jump goes. I was right there with you but it looks like Toyota is marketing sequoia to a different market segment between tundra and sequoia. The more confusing and more apples to apples is how tundra trd pro is $68k msrp and sequoia trd pro $76k.
@@edd13chen you’re right…the low-end Tundras do not have the hybrid powerhouses, so that would definitely tilt the pricing scheme. Thanks for catching that! I’m still miffed! 😂
Its right on par with the American vehicles. 🤷♂️ I would never choose a kia/Hyundai over toyota. They are still not close to Toyota in reliability 😆 not even close. Thry are however much better than American brands. Toyota then Honda, then thr rest. I think its more than fair 58k for base, twin turbo v6 hybrid 437 hp, 500 plus lbs of torque, new 10 speed transmission. Im all for it. When you have junk gmc,Ford and chevy with 80k vehicles lol.
Cramped 3rd row- small cargo space. Toyota missed those most important features on why people buy full sized SUV . Dont get me wrong - they are pretty SUV and probably more reliable than the competition - but Toyota really missed the opportunity to make this SUV superior than everybody else .
Agreed and well said. If only they made the LX600 and Sequoia bigger. I truly love Toyota/Lexus but when it came down to it, i needed ROOM in the third row and behind the third row. I held the LX600 for a day and loved it, but with the third row seats up, there was literally no trunk space. I purchased Escalade ESV VSeries. I really wish Toyota/Lexus would step it up and master design as they have done in reliability.
For the Canadian market, Toyota decided to offer the 2023 Sequoia in HYBRID ONLY. Why? I don't want a hybrid (they're more expensive and more difficult to fix - and the mechanic needs to be trained to work on a hybrid). And from a recent conversation with a dealership, it would appear that Toyota also wants to do the same in the future with the 4Runner (hybrid only). Sigh......
Sequoia obviously is the choice looks better design interior and exterior compare to ugly Lexus Sequoia way improved in terms of design compare to previous generations , Lexus is way expensive even the new sequoia not cheap either , can’t compare it with family daily driver needs, the major drawback is the hybrid kind of system in the sequoia which adds extras complicated in terms of maintenance and long run reliability which has not been tested in Toyotas vehicles worldwide
By mentioning the different location that both are being manufactured, does it mean that if its from Japan assembly line its a lot more better than US assembled toyota vehicle? So why bother buying anything from Texas even if its toyota?
Big difference: Sequoia made in US vs Lexus and LC300 made in Japan- no comparison when it comes to build quality and parts sourcing. Just look at all the q/c issues with the new Tundra-Chinese Turbos etc...bet the new LC’s haven’t had any wastegate issues because they are sourced from Japan. Vehicles might seem comparable but they aren’t.
Thank You David strong logic, LX price is prohibitive and perceived value.
That's exactly the same impression I had when first saw 23 sequoia capstone. Roomy, gorgeous looking, lots of techs, but about 30k cheaper, crazy.
Hi David I will not pay market adjustment price of up to 18,000 dollars just because they think they can get away with robbery.
I wish Toyota/Lexus did a Costco run in America before making these vehicles
Only thing I dont like about the lexus is the grill. I would buy it over the Sequioa if it wasnt for that
Lexus lx600 is amazing but the sequoia is a good looking suv
What’s the gas mileage of both vehicles
For the Canadian market, Toyota decided to offer the 2023 Sequoia in HYBRID ONLY. Why?
I don't want a hybrid (they're more expensive and more difficult to fix - and the mechanic needs to be trained to work on a hybrid).
And from a recent conversation with a dealership, it would appear that Toyota also wants to do the same in the future with the 4Runner (hybrid only).
Sigh......
Built in Japan is a Winner for Me!!
That’s sequoia looks great !
The LX 600 is a great-looking car until I look at the lines of the rear side window yuke
I'm really crazy about that Lexus grill
By mentioning the different location that both are being manufactured, does it mean that if its from Japan assembly line its a lot more better than US assembled toyota vehicle? So why bother buying anything from Texas even if its toyota?
No Torsen center diff in the Sequoia is a deal breaker, big mistake.
Not same all wheel drive system
I would buy the Sequioa over the LX, it looks sooo much better & for much cheaper
That is a matter of perspective from person to person. Both of them have great looks, just different.
TLDR: Lexus=leather stitching, wood trims, bossy rear seat. Sequoia= everything else equals with less cost
The only thing I’m worried about is going to a Toyota dealership.
Do you think it's safe to buy this newly redesigned Toyota Sequoia 2023 model?
Differential is different, big deal for those living in climates with harsh weather.
It’s a great price compared to land cruiser but I still can’t afford it, lol.
1:33 I was told 2023 is the final year
Lexus Lx600 is beautiful
The Toyota has a huge sunroof not available on the Lexus. Strange.
its too bad both of these including the land cruiser don't come close to the style and have to have it factor that the FJ cruiser had and some of the Toyotas I see ex-US
I would prefer the sequoia if it was a NON HYBRID version of trd pro.
Isn’t the sequoia much larger? The current sequoia is larger then the last Gen LX or LC
two or three inches. However, the LX600 has much superior off-road capability. Not that anyone is going to take a $120k vehicle off-roading very much.
Looks like Jackie Chan’s brother…))
Ha ha, I suppose that is a compliment!
That SUV is 80,000 dollars bargain for a millionaire but not a average working person
My next vehicle
Dare I say the Toyota Sienna awd is more capable than a sequoia
Will Toyota fix the 2024 Sequoia to have a roll down rear window ?
Lmao i thought it was Jackie chan
Capstone looks better imo.
Its' good value, but its still expensive.
Lexus for the win
