I wondered if you might be able to offer me some advice. I just acquired a 1940s Royal quiet deluxe that is missing the spring on the escapement that allows it to reset. Does that make sense? I have a new spring, but for the life of me can’t hook it in Because it’s so hard to get to. Would removing the carriage and a rails be a smart idea?
Carriage was not designed to be removed, very very tricky, so much so I don't ever remove this model's carriage Some people on Facebook typewriter groups have done this, but it takes special bearing jigs to get re-assembled Royal QDL are hard to service due to the lack of access to most all mechanisms
Yea, I had that set on the bench but they were too small, I have some sockets in another tool kit & tool drawer but didn't want to leave the bench during "live" video taping
Springs and hard to access or fiddly screws are the bane of my existence right now.
😂 Same
Nice to see others running into what always happens to me. Stuck stuff, nuts that wont bust, etc. You have the hands of a brain surgeon.
This is where a sonic cleaner would be wonderful.
I think you're right . . . .
Sometimes my fat fingers get stuck in the reel to reel decks trying getting screws out.
Good job fixing the issue !

Wow thanks for the quick reply. Well, I don’t know how I’m going to get this spring on, but at least I know how I’m NOT going to do it 😜
Don't you have a socket set that fits those screws I would be lost without mine
