    On Crystal if you continued right to the third Nurse she is standing in front of a time capsule machine, the method Gamefreak designed to trade between Gen 1and Gen 2.
    The option though only becomes available after making it to Ecruteak City in Gold, Silver and Crystal and meeting Bill.
    It also has some limitations such as Gen 2 exclusive Pokemon cant trade to Gen 1 as they didn't ''exist'' in the past.
    Cross gen battling isn't available also.

      I would love to see Russ do a follow up on this to see if the time capsule trading works. I use to catch low level Pidgy or Spearow to trade because they also had very basic move sets.

    • @TarikA
      @TarikA ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree! If Garlic OS 2.0 comes out which is set to become a multiple device OS and includes this, we might that there. Until then JELOS did something similiar recently for which Russ also made a video.

    • @Lucifronz
      @Lucifronz ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TarikA Well the core is in RetroArch, so it should have no problem working with another device, though it may need official support for the quick hosting and quick joining netplay features for Pokemon specifically.
      I hope they support it. Quick Netplay hosting/joining is already neat, but this is even better.

    • @TarikA
      @TarikA ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Lucifronz Sure, in the end it's RetroArch and the Dual TGB core that provide this functionaliy. But it's the special scripts of the Onion and Jelos teams and do some magic in the background to make it that user friendly and you're right, unless RetroArch doesn't implement that themselves, it won't become any easier.

      They need to make this completely seamless if they want a sale. Have the emulator detect when a Pokemon game activates trade or battle function and automatically enable wireless and attempt to connect to another system. There are very few games that even have multiplayer options on handhelds, and even fewer that people would actually play, it wouldn't be time consuming to do all of them. Honestly the only ones I can even think of off the top of my head are Pokemon and Tetris. Until they smooth out the edges, I'd rather spend the extra $30 and get an actual Nintendo system, mod it, not to mention connection compatibility with real unmodded systems.

      @@CHICKENmcNUGGIESMydude I guess I should have expanded: a great selling point" to me" lol. Actually one of my friends who I recently was talking to about getting him his first retro device and I mentioned the miyoo mini + and the retroid pocket 2S and some of the + and - of each..... And he actually really liked the idea of this ad hoc gameplay (along with the pocket size and retro design style) of the miyoo mini+ and preferred it to the 2S. So for a casual player it seems interesting as well (even if 2S has Bluetooth and can support controllers and HDMI to put on tv screen and play 2 players like that lol).

      @@CHICKENmcNUGGIESMydude It's a pretty big selling point for people who care. I don't think it'll draw in large crowds far and wide, let's be real, but for someone who loves Pokemon and is already looking at these devices? _It absolutely matters._ It's like buying a movie ticket and realizing you get popcorn, soda and candy of your choice for free. If you were likely going to make the purchase to begin with, you definitely will after.

    Hey!
    I'm XK and I coded EN and EN Pokémon.. Aemii shared the link earlier.
    Thanks for covering this, im glad it's getting some coverage!
    Just to let people know who have commented saying your saves will be deleted, they aren't.. they're backed up as part of the process setting up the session & they're in the TGB Dual folder. Which means if you then start the game in Gambatte your save will not be opened as it's in the TGB dual save folder. It's up to the user to move their saves and that's how it'll stay.
    TGB dual is the only core that supports doing this so that's why I use it in ENP.
    Thanks & take care!
    Also edit: it should work for other games but there's not many I've tested on
    Also: no GBA. We don't have a link cable GBA core 👍

      Well, theoretically it's already possible. The (super smart) Onion OS devs only automated a script to "magically" do stuff like the host netplay, join netplay and disable the second screen on device 1 and the first screen on device 2 plus a few other things. Imho all that that script does should be implemented right into RetroArch or at least the core settings of the TGB Dual core. That'd be awesome and basically all wee need.
      That being said, if both handheld owners are on Android (for example with an RG405M and a Retroid Pocket 3 Plus), the Android apps "MyBoy" and "MyOldBoy" can be used for GBA and GB(C) link cable functionality.

  • @o0julek0o
    @o0julek0o ปีที่แล้ว

    Ooo that’s cheeky. So what must be happening is, the save file is shared to the host, which emulates the 2 instances of Pokemon, and does the latency free linking between the instances in one device, while sending over the screen buffer over the wifi as hoc network back to the client device and once the trade is done it sends the save file back and the client user is none the wiser that their file has been in fact sent over for a while. Amazing idea.

    OnionOS does seem to make it *very* easy to host and link up, though, and that's awesome. I sincerely hope that GarlicOS 2.0 is looking towards including this same feature if it doesn't have it already, as I definitely want it in the future for the RG35XX Plus. A few questions:
    1. When you said you were starting from a downloaded save point, do you mean someone uploaded a saved point and you downloaded it, therefore you were starting the game at someone else save point?
    2. Are these games pre-downloaded or do you have to find them and download them from the SD card?
    3. What is Onion?
    4. Does it have internal memory or is the memory strictly on an SD card?
    I really want one of these but I’m very curious on how user friendly they are. They seem rather user friendly however, I’m not very tech savvy anymore so I’m hoping it’s as simple as turning it on, picking the game you want to play and then pressing start. Ironic that I just started up Yellow after many years! I’m guessing this multiplayer option will also work with the arcade games you tried in a previous video? Hubby and I each have a Miyoo Mini Plus.

    This would be great if they could use WiFi and allow various retro handhelds to connect and set up multiplayer. While this solution does work, there’s a lot of conditions to make this work. For example the likelihood to find two owners of the miyoo mini plus, with an updated onion OS and have the same game (not sure if the file name and etc matters).

      If the emulator cores and the ROM files were the same, right now different Retroarch can do netplay on different OSes. I tried with the RG35xx Plus and it can connect with my Android smartphone via WiFi.

    Question: Not too tech-savvy but this channel seems to be perfect to get help. Would this possibly be considered the current best option if my goal is pretty much solely focused on simplicity, battery life and Pokemon specifically?
    Context: The last handheld and game I purchased were the DS and Pokemon Platinum, around 14 years ago when I was leaving high school. I've held on to them and all the other pokemon games that work with the DS because I intended it to be my "emergency console". I just got back from a weeklong trip and I don't know why but the battery seemed to die pretty quickly compared to what I'd have expected. I knew ROMs and emulators were a thing now and got curious if there were any handhelds dedicated to that purpose. Turns out YEAH THERE ARE A LOT ACTUALLY and I need help figuring out what I'm looking at.

      DS emulation on this device isn't that great. If I were you, I'd just get a replacement battery for the DS. They're pretty cheap on amazon and other places and not that hard to replace.

  • @ItsBeenTooLong
    @ItsBeenTooLong ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Russ, reason it’s saying you can’t trade to the past is because that Second Lady is for only for generation 2 game trading.
    You gotta use that third lady to do the trade because if I am correct the game does a check to see if GSC has gen 2 Pokémon in the party which won’t work on RBY. If the GSC save only has generation one Pokémon it allows you to trade with RBY 😊

I am deciding between this device and the anbernic one. I have a friend and I want to play with them. Since you have both devices could you try if it is possible to crossplay between two consoles? And it is possible to instal the gameboy rom to both devices so I get the old classic loading screen? Thanks

    This is great, can this be done between two RP3+ too, without a wifi router/hotspot?

    Just thinking it makes a great travel option for many devices if it can be done without a 3rd device/wifi hub
