  • The Miyoo Mini Plus is capable of WiFi, which opens up a world of possibilities. In this video we're going to look at how you can play multiplayer and split-screen games directly on these devices. Along the way we'll compare the different color options and the current state of finding/buying a Miyoo Mini Plus.

    Russ is bar none, the best retro and emulation reviewer and guide for us on the retro emulation journey. I watch Retro Game Corps, even if I have no interest in the subject of the video, simply because Russ's script, pacing, information, and general knowledge are enthralling in their own right. Appreciate all of that you do for us!

    • @fryke
      @fryke ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you look at the back catalogue of videos, there's no real fear Russ would lose interest in the more basic and the more portable devices. :) Of course with the Miyoo Mini Plus, we already have _the_ device for you vertical handheld needs. (Okay, they could make a Miyoo Maxi or Miyoo Mini Super Plus about the size of a DMG. I hope they don't, as I'd need to order one.)

    • @mcgritty8842

    • @fryke
      @fryke ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mcgritty8842 Of course we don't need that many. But they will continue to make more of these, as long as they'll sell plenty of them. I think Russ should keep updated charts for different form factors/price points/emulation capability. Pretty sure _this_ sector is currently being served very well with the Miyoo mini Plus (and for some, the Anbernic RG 35XX), so hopefully they'll keep being produced.

    Alright, Russ, you proved me wrong. In my last comment, I thought I had nailed down your secret sauce to your talent for longer form content intrigue and thorough product investigation. But it turns out your secret sauce is your integrity. And your patience. And your caring. The way you handle your vendors (and the community that relies on you for your perspective) is awe inspiring. In a content creation era that incentivizes selling out (or more superficial, fly by night assessment), you continue to raise the bar in standards of quality and consideration. Bravo, brother, thank you for ALL that you do for the community! For all that we hear about, I imagine there’s so much more behind the scenes … like your comments on other TH-camr’s videos, for example. Love the playfulness and sense of community (referring to your comment on Bob’s video yesterday). You’re a class act and model for others!

      Honestly if you want multiplayer it's probably better to do it on a TV. If you don't have a PC you can also just use an android device or something or even your phone and some wireless controllers.
      It's a neat feature, but unless you have some kids who like to play with each other (or if he/she has a friend that also has this device), I don't think there's all that much use for multiplayer on these systems. At least practical usage. Of course if you really just want multiplayer on this device and have someone who wants to do ut with you, you can also use this.

      What would be really cool, is PS1 emulation of the link cable (if you had, on the day, 2 PlayStation, 2 television sets and that Link cable, you could play against someone and have dedicated tv for each, no splitscreen needed), so that each player looks at his handheld as he looked at his own TV... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Link_Cable. Will this overwrite my offline game session with what ever was played during multiplayer?
    Perhaps there will be a separate save file reserved for multiplayer only, etc..?
    Also which emulator cores are the safest bet for compatibility and do each console system need to be kept in mind for various save settings?

    Sincerely think it is very impressive that you've elected to take the time and energy to use your platform to actually influence some places to adopt better policies rather than just ignore and make whatever affiliate money you can or go scorched earth. Scorched earth is appropriate at times, but it often just doesn't do anything. This approach takes more work but results in change.

    I got the Miyoo Mini Plus as an impluse buy, but dang if I don't really like it. Putting Onion OS just elevates it to another level. I love that you can just switch games on the fly.
    Now to find friends to do multiplayer with! ;)

    Love the video!
    Would love to know what core you use for SNES. Unfortunately, the stock one isn’t compatible with retro achievements. I’ve been using snes9x 2005 plus, but curious if you had a preference.

    I don’t know if I’m in the minority or majority in this but, I absolutely love the nostalgic look the LED light bleed that the transparent models have. I just ordered the purple transparent model, I’m super excited for it to show up.

    Great video! I wonder if there's a way to play on multiplayer but with a MM+ and a RG35XX. I know it sounds insane, but if they're able to read each other's sd card, why not?

    Great content! Will the Simpsons still stutter when being played only by 2 players? What other console would you recommend to use to avoid the stutter when connecting 4 players? Thank you in advance.

    I'm happy to report that it has been available for $39 lately, instead of being unavailable and expensive like it was last year. Sweet little console, at a sweet little price.

    great video as always. I feel like I'm missing something, do you have to do all the work around stuff every time or is it a one time thing? I wanted to get 2 of these so me and my daughter can play together but it will be hard to have her do this everytime. (shes 8)

    This thing looks like it would be cheaper due to it's size but it's not, because of the large aftermarket support. I've looked into getting one before, but it doesn't look that comfortable for me to justify the purchase. Looks really nice though. I like the vertical look, I found all thee retro handheld youtubers looking for one. When I was a kid, in between that period before the dmg (couldn't find one anywhere) and the pocket, I think I even called nintendo a few times from the toilet like, "where's the new gameboy you guys want my money or nah" And then I got this glorious transparent yellow vomit thing. I loved that thing. I can defintiely remember playing games to street lights passing by.

    I was wondering when you were gonna be doing one on multilayer in retro gaming. Also, are any of the other devices or consoles you've so far covered able to crossplay or cross interact in any way?

    I ordered the purple miyoo mini plus a while back, and when it arrives I've just thought about figuring out a way to darken/tint the purple case a bit, i think it would help a bit.

    It took about three months till I got my Miyoo Mini Plus from KeepRetro, I was annoyed with how long it took. However, they kept their website up to date and informed their clients of when to expect shipments to happen. So take it as a grain of salt.

    That purple one looks like a first batch model. The second batch black and purples are less transparent and has been discussed on Reddit with some photos of each. It’s not a huge difference IMO but just sharing what I’ve seen.

    Hey Russ, thanks for this video. I followed it and was able to start a game with my friend playing streets of rage 2. Everything was fine going through stage 1 but second player seems to disconnect somewhere around stage 2. This happened more than once at different parts of the game/stage. I didn't time it but based on feel disconnects happened after about 10 minutes of gameplay. Do you know what might be wrong, or what I can try to fix it?

    So for SNES I’ve followed your instructions, I can get the other mini to connect to the host mini for like a second and then it just disconnects. I used the same core you recommended and even went through the list just to see but haven’t been able to get it to actually work

    I like the Transparent Black and Game boy Gray Colors and in that order ! However, I did not feel how good the texture is on the non-transparent ones as you said Russ I might even change my mind if I felt the Game Boy gray model as my first and transparent black as my second.

    Could you do this same video with the different options Retroid has for multiplayer? I saw it mentioned on your old rp2 video, never saw anyone go into detail for it since then
    Would love a detailed look into it in particular with your quality
    Edit: question is there any way for 2 devices to link to one computer such as steam link?
    And on that tangent anything like emulating via a link like that for 2nd gamepad screen Wii U like Nintendo land?
