    After watching this video and your explanation to my comment yesterday, it makes sense. You will have to remove the plastic once the corn sprouts and before it is impacted by the plastic. Good video.

      The plastic is biodegradable so it should be ok. As long as the sun hits it it will break down.

    Interesting concept with the plastic. It'll be nice to see corn growing on the Mac Farm

      Does being more than 1/2 way to the north pole have a drastic effect on the corn growing?

    Can’t wait to see the crop growing. There’s a farm near us here in south western Ontario 1/2 hour north east of London that plants quite a few acres of sweet corn under plastic. Might use a similar planter.

      @macfarms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe so, I searched on TH-cam and seen a couple being used in Ontario. I think planting sweet corn with them is more common.

    We have a plastic layer, I think I did a video with it in the field. One of your problems might be that your rows aren't straight. I believe the layers are designed to go in a straight line- turning will add slack to one side of the plastic, and it may not cover well with dirt. Is that cow corn?

    • @macfarms
      @macfarms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt it would handle much of a turn but there is some elasticity to it. Yes it’s silage corn for the cows.

    Is the plastic for a greenhouse effect because it’s cold up there?

    • @macfarms
      @macfarms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that’s the idea of it. Heats up the soil and holds moisture.

    Who has to pick the plastic up at the end of harvest or does it biodegrade in the ground?

    • @macfarms
      @macfarms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s very thin like cling wrap and it’s biodegrade-able so they tell us it should be pretty much gone by the time it’s harvested
