    You are incorrigibly inspiring and relatable. I hope you can internalize an awareness of the positive ripples you have, even across oceans and continents here in Oregon.
    Let the knowledge of your influence become part of your motivation and actualization journey 😊

    I swim in cold water almost every day. I can´t remember a single day when I wanted to get in, but I have never regretted spending that time in the cold water a single time. Every time I felt a thousand times better afterwards.
    Thanks for the great videos!

      That is an inspirational comment and quite the admission. I think newbies to outdoor swimming thing those who are regulars or have been doing it for a long time look forward to the getting in - they're missing the point that for many it is the feeling once in and when we get out that is the draw!

    Amazing wave at the end! The days when I don’t feel like swimming are the days that I tell myself that I absolutely must swim. The feel good factor is more powerful than the dread.

    Hi Rachel, I have only just discovered your videos and enjoying all the sea swimming tips. I'm part of the Sole Bay Sea Swimmers . We swim every day in the sea on the East Coast of England at Southwold. Sea temperature is dropping very fast and I struggle with the dark mornings as I have to be at work by 8am. The sea is my reason for getting up each day. It makes me feel alive. However, the winter months make it very easy to lose your mojo. Thank you for sharing your experiences x

    way to go Rachel! Glad to see your smile back! We love you whether you get in or not! :-) (but glad to see you get in!). I'm in Ithaca, NY and I love swimming in Cayuga lake and Seneca Lake. I've been away for most of October so haven't gotten in myself in a while but will be home next week and excited to dip back in. (tho I know it's going to be a LOT colder than last time I was in. I'll see if I can get myself motivated like you. Hmmmm fresh bread might be th ticket. Cheers!

      Hi Victoria, if you wanted to you can restart at anytime, just go easy on yourself and stay in only until your breathing regulates - they trick it to get out knowing you could have stayed a little longer. In winter, I don't stay in longer than 10 mins without a full suit of neoprene!
      If getting in at the minute is not your thing and you're looking for a way to enjoy the wellbeing benefits of being in, on or around the water, check out Bluteonic charity's winter wellbeing challenge which I co-wrote. There are 100 activities which are in, on or around water for you to choose from and you do one a week between the clocks changing. Well done - I'm also suffering a lack of water mojo at present - Dartmoor has cooled down at lot recently and the lack of sun makes it less enticing! Will be going to the beach at the weekend to restore the mojo. Interestingly I was in the New Forest for a couple of days over the summer and fancied a dip so picked somewhere random and it was exactly the same location in this video - even the same steps! Great location as you can get post-swim tea and cake at the little café there. Great views of IOW

    • @EverydayAthleteRach
      @EverydayAthleteRach  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Nik, Dartmoor is amazing for dipping possibilities but the temperature can be a bit saucy. I find I have to be strict with myself on time in the water as it can be a lot of fun and I've ended up a bit too cold before. Hope the sea was the tonic you needed. Fancy that, that you ended up at the same beach, it is a beaut!

    Good to see you back in the water Rach, especially at my usual sea-swimming spot Hordle Cliff. It's amazing how quickly dumping surf can subside here once the tide drops to a level where the sandbar takes the energy out of the waves.

For me, if I put on my kit (wetsuit, cap), it forces me to go in...I walk around do chores, sit in meetings (I work from home) like a creature from the Blue Lagoon, LOL. At some point, I get warm and toasty then off I go toward the water! There is never a time I have regretted a swim. But, this transition time Autumn is difficult. And may I say--a break is often something you need. Time spent away might have had a purpose you'll never know. For me, time out of the water makes me appreciate the return so much more. I know some day, it may be difficult as I age (in my 60s) to do this simple ritual.....Love from Southcoast of Mass Buzzards Bay- USA 💨💙💦

    Hi Rachel ! Swiss mountain lady here. 🙂 I'm struggling with the same problem, lol. But not for the same reasons : I wish I could go to my little mountain lake more often, but I have been very sick this year (auto-immune disease with liver failure) so I really have to listen to my body, and especially my level of energy. In my condition, feeling low is an absolute no-go. So if nights have been really cold the days before, I know the water temperature will have dropped consequently. Plus the weather has been very rainy this year, which is an even bigger problem due to having no safe dry place to change myself. I hoped I could take wild dips at night in the village fountains, but there again it turned out to be more difficult than expected : due to the electricity price having reached stratospheric level, I hardly heat my home, so I rarely feel warm enough to have the motivation for a cold plunge. When I get my pension, I'll be able to connect to the village remote heating system, and install a wood stove with a little oven for my sourdough bread. Can't wait !!
    So I don't desperate. This is my second year of wild swimming in cold water, and it has been a revelation and a life saving experience for my never ending inflammatory state. Your videos were a huge support and a gold mine of information, especially because I don't have anyone to swim with and motivate me. This year however, I have been able to push my swims below 10°C, and it's a little victory in itself. Not because of the challenge, but because I was building cold resistance : burn my visceral inflammatory fat and replace it with super powerful healthy brown fat. For the very first time, I could experience THERMOGENESIS IN ACTION : I was swimming for about 7-8 minutes with a very uncomfortable feeling of cold bite (despite no shivering), and wondering why I imposed this torture to my poor body, when all of a sudden I felt a kind of "heat wave" flowing through my whole body !! In 10 sec, I went from miserable frozen creature to invincible polar bear ! 😄😄 I was literally amazed. I could remain in the water about 15 min. with no problem ! I experienced the exact same thing the second time below 10°C. This never happened to me with higher temperatures. Yes, there was a minute or two, sometimes up to 5 minutes, when I felt uncomfortable, but no "heat wave" like that ! I could literally feel my body fueling my inner stove and pushing hot blood towards my peripheral vessels ! Within 2 weeks, I dropped 2 kilos !! So I'm a bit bummed I don't have the weather conditions or the motivation to keep going til my lake freezes. I try not to feel guilty, though : if my body says no, I have to listen to it. It has already gone through a lot this year. It's more annoying when I can't go because of the weather, when I really wish I could ! 😅
    Thank you for having created this amazing channel ! But I think you too should not feel guilty is some day your body says no. We have to listen to our body sometimes ! 🙂💜

      @EverydayAthleteRach  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's great that you have a strategy to remedy the lack of heating at home, even if it is in the future. So difficult to self motivate when you know it is going to be cold. Your sage words are a great comfort to me.
