    I've been trying for weeks to decide what technique to use on my niece's birthday cake (bottom tier). I think this is it! It's so beautiful. I'll be using lavender, coral and teal. And some sea glass green. With hints of metallic gold. She'll have a mermaid riding a seahorse on top. I've made tons of shells, extra mermaid tails and sea horses to decorate with. Now I can't wait to finish it today!

    • @krazykoolcakes
      @krazykoolcakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Helen, I'm not sure what "white plastic" you are referring to? I don't have any white plastic around the piping bag. It's only the piping bag and the piping tip. If you ever watch any of our tutorials and you're interested in the materials, tips, etc, that we used in the video, you can always click on the "show more" section underneath our video, or if you're on a smart phone/tablet, it's the little black arrow pointing down. The tip is 1M. Thanks for watching! :)

    • @krazykoolcakes
      @krazykoolcakes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @jg31602
    @jg31602 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello Laura! Fist and foremost thank you so much for sharing so many amazing videos with us! I was wondering if you could help me figure what went wrong with a cake I made using this wave technique. (your technique was amazing and in no way shape or form am I trying to imply that what happened to my cake was due to your technique) I made a beach cake for my customer they took it to the beach. She mentioned it was 69 degrees and overcast and after an hour ALL the piped on was literally came crashing down 😔. Could you help me pin point what could have gone wrong? I guess what I’m really trying to find out is if it was something I did😔. Thank you so much. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Ps. The cake I made turned out absolutely amazing with the beach waves thanks to your video 😍

    • @krazykoolcakes
      @krazykoolcakes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! You're very welcome! We appreciate you watching! :) I'm happy to help. Right off the bat, the fact that the words "beach" and "cake" are together in the same sentence, scare me. LOL. It could be many things like the consistency of your icing, the TYPE of icing you used, but despite the fact that it was 69 degrees, that has absolutely nothing to do with the amount of humidity in the air. Humidity = water. And water and icing DO NOT MIX. The fact that you said it was "overcast" tells me there was a lot of humidity in the air, plus keep in mind they're at the beach so they are surrounded by water. In the future, be sure to advise your customers that having cake ANYWHERE near water is a VERY bad idea. Let them know that of course they are MORE than welcome to do what they wish with the cake, but once the cake is out of your hands, whatever happens to it is not your responsibility. Always a good idea for both the Cake Artist AND the customer to use wisdom. Most customers don't know any better so it's our responsibility to enlighten them. So glad you liked our tutorial! Hope my advice helps. God bless you! :)

    • @jg31602
      @jg31602 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Krazy Kool Cakes & Designs thank you very much for your reply. It has brought me the reassurance that the “beach” was the culprit. I was scared because I’ll be making a rosette cake next month and I was scared that the heat was gonna be an issue (but this cake will be nowhere near water!). Thank you thank you!!!!! God Bless.

    • @loricarlson557
      @loricarlson557 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@krazykoolcakes I made this cake this weekend and it was beautiful but I had the same result with about half of the waves tumbling off the cake. We live in a very dry climate so that was not the issue. I am wondering if the issue was that I did a crumb coat, then refrigerated the cake for about 20 minutes and then applied the waves. I am wondering if the sides of the cake were too dry for the waves to adhere to. It was very disappointing but i took the icing that fell off and iced the back half of the cake smooth and then put pirouettes around for a pier effect. Very cute but I was so disappointed as the waves had looked so beautiful. If you have any other thoughts I would love to hear them.

      I appreciate that very much! Thank you! Don't EVER say you "probably will never be as good as me". You should look at what I DO, and say to yourself, "One day I'm going to BE BETTER than her!". If you practice you'll be like me and BETTER! You can do ANYTHING that God has put the desire in your heart to do. Each generation should be better than the last. I WANT YOU to be BETTER than me! Believe in YOURSELF, and even MORE importantly, BELIEVE and TRUST in God that loves you so much! Remember that every single GOOD desire in your heart, HE put there! If He put it there, then He WILL help you be great at it! God bless you you super talented Cake Artist! You start believing that you are ALREADY that NOW! :)

    Is this buttercream stiffer than canned frosting? I tried this technique on a practice cake using canned frosting, and each row of waves drooped and slid down my cake.

      I've never used canned frosting so not sure. But, I can tell you that the consistency of this is strong, but still soft like buttercream. It holds its shape very well. Oh... if it drooped on you then this icing is definitely way stronger than canned frosting.

    I’m wondering how hard it would be to do this technique on the top tier of a cake?

      HI! Not hard at all. You would do it the exact same way. No difference whatsoever. Thanks for watching! :)

      Usually 5.5" in height. Three layers of cake inside.
