UK and French troops swap roles for Changing of the Guard ceremonies

- British and French troops have swapped roles for Changing of the Guard ceremonies for the first time, celebrating 120 years since the Entente Cordiale.
Sixteen soldiers from Number 7 Company Coldstream Guards have joined troops from 1er Regiment de la Garde Republicaine to provide the Presidential Guard outside the Elysée Palace in Paris, in what will be the first time a foreign state has guarded the French presidential residence.
At 11 am in London, 32 members of the Gendarmerie’s Garde Republicaine and 40 Guardsmen from F Company Scots Guards paraded together on the Forecourt of Buckingham Palace and will be inspected by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

Beautiful display of friendship and brotherhood. Seeing formerly hostile countries do stuff like this is allways heartwarming.
They didn’t swap roles as far as I saw in the video. They did the ceremony of changing of the guard but never did the guard.

Reminds me of the tale about the French tourist visiting HMS Victory. Supposedly she asked if the cannon balls were original, at which the guide quipped, "No Madam, your navy still has them."

Lol terrible idea to reminding the French of the Napoleonic War. Especially the Battle of Trafalgar 1805 (the HMS Victory wrecked havoc the French and Spanish vessels combined) and Battle of Waterloo 1815 🤣🤣

Good to see these two countries despite many years of conflict in the past they still have each other.
Remember, the French imperial Guards considered to be the best during 18th century, but later on defeated by the Duke of Wellington with his Red Coat army together withe the Great Prussian Army in the Battle of Waterloo.
Nevertheless British and French now considered brothers.
Great sight to see in those uncertain times. May the futur holds us strong! Long live the UK, long live France.

Not really. Arthur was a bit of a Francophile. He studied at the French cavalry school at Angers (I think - could have been Saumur), was fully fluent in the language.
Being a reactionary, he didn’t like Bonapartism, that’s all. He got on very well with the post-Bonaparte administration whilst serving as British ambassador in Paris and became very chummy with a couple of French marshals - notably Soult - in his retirement.

Who knows. Maybe they would be glad to see the two countries at peace and on good terms instead of killing each other.
Napoleon wanted peace with the United Kingdom always. It was the UK that always refused because France was too powerful.

UK and France have actually the most military victories in History due to colonials and thousands years of fighting each other.
In the Medieval time, they used to be one Nation, the Angevin Empire
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 Napoleon Bonapoarte tried to force the british into a peace agreement with the "système continental" that didn't worked.
Napoleon III was friendlier to the british.
The Angevin Empire was way more complex and we can't really say at that point that both countries were united.
But am open to discussion and point out stuff i don't know about friend.
