I used to go on for many days without sleeping just to finish tasks on time, the 24h non-sleep days became very ordinary for me, and I went with sleeping for just 2-3h a day for months. Even I sometimes went 72h straight non-sleep, with energy drinks, coffee and showers, but at what cost? I have so many health problems right now, I fucked up my liver because of energy drinks and excess caffeine, fucked up my weight, eyes, nerves, muscles (Especially upper back and neck ones). I hope it's not too late, but now sleeping is the most important thing for me, I can't sleep more than 8 hours (Biological clock), but from 6 to 7 is crucial, I track my sleeping quality and prepare for bed. There is no worth trading sleeping for.
Yeah, but he was saying that sleeping less than 8 hours, but still more than 6 hours can be a worthy tradeoff. Because the difference is usually small enough that you can take a slightly compromised sleep to do something which is more important for you than an hour or two of sleep.
@bubleman2196 Thank you, man! It all starts with one hour, then two, then non-stop, you should never cheat on your sleeping and have an iron rule of 7-8h even if you wake up early because of biological or natural clocks. It's important to track and get enough REM and deep sleep.
That extra time in the morning you get by waking up earlier is not for "free". Your body is absolutely paying the cost. In fact sleep is the highest-priority thing when it comes to health. You can survive without food for weeks, but science has shown that if you simply stay awake for 24 hours straight, your faculties are so diminished that it's the equivalent to having a blood alcohol content of 0.10%. If you're choosing things to sacrifice when it comes to time management and goal-setting, sleep is definitely not one of the things you should sacrifice.
Personally, I don’t think it’s a wise idea to sacrifice sleep even for an hour because it is absolutely fundamental to your health. You might not notice the effects immediately but sacrificing even an hour of sleep increases your chance of a stroke and it impacts healthy aging. If you want to sleep less and work more, it’s your own decision but best believe you will suffer the consequences later on in your life.
as a recovering insomniac who struggles to get healthy sleep, I urge everyone to NOT listen to this advice. It catches up to you brutally, to the point your heart is racing during basic activities, your brain feels like utter shit without caffeine (that you get addicted to and exacerbates the racing heart feeling) and you cannot function well at all, across the board. Do not cheat yourself off of sleep. It 100% stacks up, it is NOT a case of one or 2 longer sleeps making up for it later, that is NOT how it works. You need to be entering REM sleep for several hours. The 8 is not 8 hours of REM, it's more like 2. You only properly dream properly, vividly, for 1.5 to 2 hours out of a full 8 hour sleep. Those 2 hours are extremely crucial and often if you wake up before the 8 hour mark, you are woken during the 1.5 to 2 hours, because they come at the moment your body is most rested. However, when you've become an insomniac, you will find you begin to dream faster and yet don't remember dreaming much, all at once. This is because the REM by force, happens more but the depth of the sleep in REM is less. It all begins to contradict. You will even often have nightmares because your REM is happening but your body isn't properly rested so you're having dreams while your body feels 'go go go' from the caffeine and stress that insomnia brings, still being in your body.
Yeah, but he was saying that sleeping less than 8 hours, but still more than 6 hours can be a worthy tradeoff. Because the difference is usually small enough that you can take a slightly compromised sleep to do something which is more important for you than an hour or two of sleep. Sleep is definitely the most important aspect of your health when it comes to enjoying your life. And if you sleep for 10 hours per day, thats still leaves you 14 hours in the day. That's PLENTY of time to do whatever you think will make you happy. But if you are going to try to cut time off of your sleep to have more time during the day, focus on improving your sleep quality, that way you don't need to sleep for as long. Do NOT sleep deprive yourself. Tristan's advice is terrible here.
This is perhaps the worst thing that has come out of the state brother's mouth ever. You are not "creating time out of nothing" you are quite literally paying an insane price for it.
