AMD RDNA 5 Chiplet Plans LEAKED Via RDNA 4 High End Design?
Some VERY interesting leaks today, as the now canned RDNA 4 high end GPU has had it's specs LEAKED, including the compute units, shader engines, GCD, chiplets and MORE. Could these LEAKED RDNA 4 high end designs show what AMD has in store for the TRUE next gen GPUs - RDNA 5? Join us as we examine the RDNA 4 high end leaks, how they compare with previous rumours on RDNA 4's hardware specifications, what the die configuration could have looked like, and what all this could possibly mean for RDNA 5's design - from specs, to architecture, to performance.
We also have an update to AMD Strix Point, as yet more specifications have leaked, pretty much confirming the previous leaks on Ryzen AI Strix Point APUs being accurate. But could Ryzen Strix Point spell the END for budget graphic cards?

Lol love the AMD hate from the folks who only consider Nvidia.
Personally I will buy from the company who provides the most overall compelling product. 2080ti was gross. I bought it and regretted the poor performance upgrade over 1080ti. 3080 price wasnt real at release, and I needed more VRAM so I went 6900XT. Then 40 series prices are absolute robbery. Sure...the 4090 is insane...but so is the price. No thanks. Then 4080 lost to 7900xtx in all but RT and cost more. Nvidia better fix the price issues if they want to really keep people away from AMD. Also, quit cheaping out on VRAM capacity.

What I understood from the Navi41 cancellation articles, there was a problem distributing the workload across the chiplets. The RDNA5 engineers solved this problem, but they couldn't fix RDNA4 without starting over on the chiplet design.
At this point for RX 8000 series and how the Navi48 is effectively the replacement for Navi42 and expected to be weaker than the RX 7900 XTX configuration, I wonder if AMD plans to refresh Navi31 to help fill the void until the RX 9000 series. It would not be the first time AMD launches a series where the flagship is a refresh and the new GPU design is a mid-tier.

Interesting... I hadn't consider them rejoining the archs for GPU... It is reasonable since the rumors said they were disaggregating the modules... They did something similar when they went from Vega to CDNA...
CDNA3 (MI300X) has 320CUs at 5nm so for 3nm CUs, etc. they can get the power down from RDNA3 and save money on reuse of modules for CDNA4 and RDNA5... We can be certain that they'll get 40-50% increase from RDNA3 to RDNA4 with the leaks...
RDNA5 may get 70-80% over RDNA3... RDNA3.5 is an unknown so it's hard to really guess...
    Still... Exciting...

With Blackwell coming out this year, and RDNA 5 coming out sometime in 25-26, I would expect ray tracing performance to have to increase at least 600% to even be on par with blackwell. When even Intel is better at RT on their first gen architecture, you know AMD is fumbling hard. Failing to even release a high end RDNA 4, they already did fumble. They really need to do better.

Errr just btw AMD isn't that far behind on RT to raster performance, and honestly it seems like NVIDIA has hit a wall in improving that ratio because the 30 series only improved by like 10 - 20% and 40 series only improved by like ~10% so if AMD could catch even the 40 series RT to raster ratio they would likely not be significantly behind blackwell, so all in they would only have to increase RT performance in absolute terms by like 300% / 3x to be close to what blackwell can do, as I am assuming a 50% increase in performance for blackwell and maybe another 10% increase to RT to raster performance ratio. which would leave AMD 10% behind in RT performance given comparing cards with the same raster performance.

Considering Nvidia GPUs for desktop, in spite of the bitching usually have the memory they need and it's incredibly rare that for gaming any reviewer can ever show a performance drop that they can definitively say is because of a lack of VRAM, my guess is it will have the amount Nvidia thinks a laptop GPU needs at each performance level, and it won't have more than that.
      Hope that helps.

@@johndoh5182 I think desktop RTX 5090 will have 32gb vram at minimum because it is rumoured to use 512 bit bus recently changed from 384
So RTX 5080 will definitely use a 320 or 384 bit bus changed from 256 bit bus because if RTX 5090 uses 512 bit bus there's no way RTX 5080 will still use a 256 bit bus.
RTX 5090 laptop gpu will use the same die as RTX 5080 desktop just like last gen RTX 4090 laptop gpu uses RTX 4080 desktop die and RTX 4080 laptop gpu uses RTX 4070 ti die configuration.
So if RTX 5080 Desktop uses 20 or 24gb then RTX 5090 laptop gpu will have the same 20 or 24gb vram configuration.
RTX 5080 laptop should have at least 16gb vram as RTX 5070 Ti will at least have 16gb vram because the RTX 4070 Ti Super already has 16gb it would make no sense to make RTX 5070 Ti have less than 16gb Vram.
RTX 5070 laptop should have 12gb.
RTX 5060 laptop should have 10 or 8 gb.
RTX 5050 laptop should have 8 or 6gb.

Because I havent seen the price drop at all since Eth mining ended, the 7000 series didnt change a damn yhing, and i know 8000 wont ( because its not performance competitive) and i bet 9000 probably wont either (because of pricing, aka inflation, there is much more to come)

You have an iGPU that can basically play every game out there in 1080p60 easily and with FSR, beyond that. Gonna be interesting to see benchmarks. But if it has Xbox series X power in laptops, it will be very popular.

did you see the video by "Graphically Challenged" from a couple hours ago? There's a new leak that suggests that AMD's high end gpus might not be canceled, and it gives some specs that he speculates are the 8900XT and 8900XTX. From his rough estimate based on the leak, if that 8900XTX is truly coming out and isn't canceled, it would have around ×3.4 [340%] the rasterization performance of the 7900XTX.

I can't be bothered with Intel until Panther Lake releases with Fiber Optic(Obliterating all chiplet latency) Their 1st gen chiplet, vs AMD's 5th with Ryzen 9000? Easy, no one cares about Intel right now, go look at Intels Fabs, Their RMAs are in the thousands right now today, and their fabs aren't doing well.

to be honest it being 7900 GRE to 7900XT that is enough for the vast majority of people even in the next generation, as you say it all comes down to pricing, it's it's $500 - $550 well nobody cares because the 7900 GRE already exists and if your only improving performance by 11% at best and maybe significantly improving ray tracing well the 4070Ti exists at not that much more than the 7900 GRE. Now if it's $450 ehhh yeh thats fine and will move people, $400 thats pretty darn good, a bit more performance at a significantly lower price, thats good.
$350 thats the point where I think they would sell like hotcakes, not that I expect AMD to sell at that price, I expect them to come in at $500 - $550 and say, but it has more performance and significantly better RT performance, then later have to drop the price down to $400 to actually get a signifiant number of sales which originally if they hadn't got greedy and poisoned the day 1 reviews they wouldn't have to go down closer to the $400 and could have had plenty of happy customers at the $450 mark but they have to drop the price down to a point where reviewers go, "thats quite a good price we should re-evaluate this product."
Like here me now quote me later, if AMD launches at $500 - $550 they will end up close to $400 within 12 months, if they launch at $450 they can just keep that price off the good will they got in day 1 reviews and only have to cut the price just before the next generation mid range GPUs come to clear stock quickly.

That’s not at all true. All the AI chips are using HBM memory with super expensive (and faster, by multiple orders of magnitude) interconnects to ensure that the AI compute chiplets have the data they need. AI workloads (for training, inference is different) are actually not compute bound, but actually memory bound. The lower the latency and higher throughput yields significant (multiple hours) speed up in training time.

My guess is that AMD is probably trying to do what they did with Intel, where they caught up and then released something with 10 percent more performance. If Nvidia is not careful and doesn't really double the performance of rtx 5090 from 4090, they could be in trouble.

Yeah, Intel is for low end, AMD is for mid-range and NVIDIA is for people with FU money

The vast majority of the market is mid to low end. Simple as that. All AMD needs to do is have a decent supply of cards.Literally anyone not wanting a $1000 or more would be interested.

Due to the fact that amd in rdna 4 abandoned the high end, as an owner of rx 6800xt I will buy rtx5070ti/5080 (depending on the ratio of pricing and performance). But then I very much doubt that there would be a point in switching to rdna 5. It will sooner make sense to wait for the next generation of nvidia, because amd with what it has done practically discourages simply to seriously consider them in the consumer gpu market. Optionally rdna6, but only if amd would do something special and finally clearly beat nvidia in rt and raster. Given the size of both companies' budgets and NV's ceo obsession with being first in everything - such a scenario is highly unlikely.

If they make a 9900 xtx I would get that

Cancelled as it, no chance of beating Nvidia anyway.
