I am in awe of "THE MENDELSSOHN FAMILY!" Please, anyone correct me if I am wrong! Fanny was her younger brother's editor! Fanny provided that strong, but gentle touch to his works! They both were in THE ROMANTIC PERIOD OF MUSIC! Fanny Mendelssohn, was an extremely formidable woman of her day! She represents the courage of women, then & now! I have blood relatives that emulate Fanny in all aspects of their lives, especially in music! Félix, counted on his older sister for everything, guidance, etc.! Their music needs to be played together on the same program, to hear their similar nuisances! It was predominantly Fanny, that exposed BACH'S works to the public! She was an AWESOME musicologist, besides! Felix, felt her AMAZING presence, that was "larger-than-life" stemming from her! I
Been listening to this Op 8 in 7th heaven, marvelling at the precocious genius of Felix Mendelssohn, before realising that this was the work of his sister! Imagine what she might have produced had she a) lived longer than 42, b) not had a father who believed that "Music will perhaps become his [i.e. Felix's] profession, while for you it can and must be only an ornament". No more than the culture of the time, of course, but very regrettable nonetheless.
@@pilouetmissiou it’s all waiting to become known! It’s an exciting area for young artists to explore. I myself just featured her baroque style Klavierbuch in E minor on recent concerts and on my channel. It’s amazing to find masterpieces like that with no performance history-there is a good deal of freedom in that!
Notice, (e.g. at 0:40 or 2:20) how she interweaves and further developes a theme from the ouverture from Felix' Die erste Walpurgisnacht. Soul mates in communication.

As good as Felix - but she didn't do an Elijah, Octet, 6th String Quartet or Midsummer Night's Dream - but then she didn't get the opporunities. We can't change history, but at least things are better for the Fannys of today - and their brothers rightly have to work a little harder.
But she did a wonderful Oratorium Nach Bildern Der Bibel, the very great Hiob cantata, a wonderful string Quartet in E flat Major, the cycle The Year for piano, many Lieder for piano as that in E flat minor, many Lieder and all that we don't know anything because it sleeps in the archives....For someone who can't dedicate herself to music I find it is a lot....As you says the opportunities were not the same..

Well, her catalogue of compositions does number about 466 pieces, so she did pretty well even with all the opposition!
