I heard the orchestral version of this many times when I was a kid in the early nineties. I never knew what it was called or who composed it and it literally haunted me my whole life. Then I happen to hear you play this, and suddenly I realized that this was piece I'd been searching for. It's the piece I heard as a child that I searched for in vain. Thanks so much.
Nightfeather that’s the thing about classical music. No lyrics to search up, and when you find a song you like, or in your case, heard a lot of times, it’s near impossible to find. Glad you did.
@N1gerTV you said it yourself: it's interesting. Perhaps also, because this has a Chopinesque style. God, why is it even important to say something that contributes to the piece? If it is interesting why complain?
Such expressive playing. I felt each marking on the page in your playing. That coupled with your rubato and attention to phrasing/balance, make this one of the more enjoyable recordings I’ve heard in some time. Bravo!
Now, I do not in any way know you on a personal level, but having a beautiful wife and daughter, having mastered the art of playing piano both skillfully and emotionally, and being an excellent artist, I'd say, that you have succeeded tremendously in life. I can tell that you love what you do, just as I love what I do. So glad I found your channel. Hope you're having a wonderful day.
To say that Tchaikovsky wasn’t a composer for the piano would be absolute nonsense; his works for the instrument are subtle and not very virtuoso, but expressive and beautiful.
I mean they're great of course but when we're comparing the all time greats he is outmatched by the great pianists like liszt, chopin, moszkowski, Beethoven, Alkan, etc
Bravo, Paul! Listening to this while watering my garden this morning has culminated into quite a cathartic experience. The end result being that I'm left with a renewed sense of vigor and interest to seize the day. Thank you for the motivation! Cheers
I swear, we have exactly the same taste... This has always been one of my favorites. Especially since even a relatively bad sight reader like me can still read it directly from sheet music. It's nice to be able to play a beautiful piece any time without having to study it. Tchaikovsky actually has several good pieces for that (another example would be June Baracrolle from the Seasons). Great playing as always! Keep it up.
Paul den Hollander / 03data I cant even read this, I literally only study pieces. I have some kind of tunnel vision where I can only see one line at a time. Good news is I memorize very easily.
I've played this through a few times as I'm a reasonable grade 8 sight reader, then listen to you.....and the whole piece makes sense! Thank you Paul for all your videos.
This reminds me a lot to Chopin. Beautiful peace of music. But I also adore tschaikovskys unique style. Paul, again your skills leave me breathless. Very well played!
Oh wow. I’ve always heard this song performed as a violin concerto. I’ve never heard a solo version for the piano. Now I’m excited that this is something I might actually be able to play! Thank you, this is amazing ☺️
OMGOSH! OMGOSH! OMGOSH! Why have I never heard this before? I LOVE that unexpected ending! He must have had a very heavy heart the day he wrote this piece! I've got to do this piece!
Gobsmacked. Wow. I'm postponing work just to learn this piece. Your playing is truly inspiring and the notation makes it perfect to follow. In effect, you're a fantastic teacher without having to say a word. I'm fortunate that I read music, and the synchro of the notes with your playing makes it easy to follow. Tchaikovsky was nothing short of a sheer genius - and you have made it that so much easier to even attempt to follow! I'm on a mission.. Thanks for sharing this!
When you’re totally in love and you don’t have any word to describe what you feel, you can listen to piano pieces of Tchaikovski, and the notes will represent exactly what you feel.
Thank you Mr. Barton for uploading your video! I truly appreciate it. Your video's inspired and helped me to discover new pieces and challenge myself to play new pieces! I thank you for all the effort that you put into each video which not only helps piano players like us through your form of playing the piano with a visible sheet music, but you also provide us with free links to the sheet music which not all youtubers provide to us! I cannot express how thankful I am and I applaud each video you make! Bravo!
Ах Чайковский, как же я влюблен в эту музыку. Такой простой и понятный для русского человека мотив. Чего только стоит переигранный мной альбом "Времена года"
Didn't know this one before, thank you for playing it. Definitely a piece I will play in the near future! I really enjoyed your interpretation. The way you played the pauses and the dynamics gave it a lot of soul. Spot on and beautiful, in my opinion. :-)
très belle interprétation. Bravo. On retrouve ce magnifique morceau sur le premier cd de Liana Gourdjia, violoniste internationale au talent unique ! c'est tellement beau. merci :-)
The people telling you to learn piano properly aren't being elitists! Pieces like this take serious technical skill, which you likely don't have if you're learning piano off of TH-cam tutorials. Try out having a teacher, you'll improve much faster and you'll be able to fix problems that you didn't even know you had. Or at least try learning to read sheet music, that will open up millions of pieces of music for which tutorials have never been made! Piano is fun, and investing in boring stuff like learning to read music will actually make it more fun.
averystrangeguy Thanks for your good comment. But I don't have time for a teacher yet. So thats why I learn my self piano on tutorials. But you are right of course. When i have time for a teacher I will do it.
Oh Paul, your videos are my inspiration to keep practising the piano, Its hard to get straight good at first, mostly since I study music and piano on my own.
Tchaikovsky and Chopin lived in the same era and both were influenced by east-european music, this may be why. Also Tchaikovsky was born in 1840, so 9 years prior to Chopin's death, so there must've been an influence as Chopin was one of the most famous composers of his era.
I would so greatly appreciate a tutorial of this! I think it'll be my next long term piece since I'm not entirely sure of its difficulty/my skill level.
"tutorial" in classical music, really? You got his fingering suiting his hands, what do you need more? There is not very technical passages, the hardest part is the interpretation and the control of the sound
Lucas Teks you do realize he has done tutorials on many classical pieces before right? Honestly you sound really pedantic by acting like it should not or cannot be done
No it goes to quick to follow his fingering even if you reduce the speed of this video. Tutorial in classical music work very well. Also if it is not so difficult you can post your video so that we will see. I guess you will do it tomorrow or maybe after tomorrow...at least one day in the future you will do that. Those who speak usually are the ones that do not act.
i absolutely loved your performance sir. Life is great with a companion, same with this great masterpiece. It is so shallow without the violin, it feels incomplete and lost without it. However, it is just fine by itself and still conveys the same sadness and mystery.
First of all, marvellous playing, thank you! I wonder why there is a F natural(bekar symbol) at 0:29 in the sheet for the right hand in treble clef? There were no F sharps nor F flats before this place in this clef, so it's strange. And I wish I could play the 2 virtuosic passages at the end of thi piece :-)
1:05 Great playing sir! but in a bar near this point,I think the transition to the next part is a little sudden, and I can sense a little more pedal for the left hand would be better. I am not an expert, hitherto here I suggested.
I heard the orchestral version of this many times when I was a kid in the early nineties. I never knew what it was called or who composed it and it literally haunted me my whole life.

O
Shazam helps a lot
Notice : Thaikovsky liked Chopin and he even has a work named 'Un poco di Chopin'.
GaleRianes what does un poco did Chopin mean? x
Jude Martynski a little bit of Chopin
That’s what it means
NINA A Thankyou!
@N1gerTV you said it yourself: it's interesting. Perhaps also, because this has a Chopinesque style. God, why is it even important to say something that contributes to the piece? If it is interesting why complain?
Yes ! it's real ...
Such expressive playing. I felt each marking on the page in your playing. That coupled with your rubato and attention to phrasing/balance, make this one of the more enjoyable recordings I’ve heard in some time. Bravo!

Breathtaking. Beautiful performance.
...Kurt Seyit ve Shura...
To say that Tchaikovsky wasn’t a composer for the piano would be absolute nonsense; his works for the instrument are subtle and not very virtuoso, but expressive and beautiful.
Dumka is quite challenging, but still nowhere as hard as the Chopin Ballades
I mean they're great of course but when we're comparing the all time greats he is outmatched by the great pianists like liszt, chopin, moszkowski, Beethoven, Alkan, etc
Tchaikovsky is the highest selling Classical Composer of all time .
Melodic Maestro .
Fun Fact .
Bravo, Paul!
Listening to this while watering my garden this morning has culminated into quite a cathartic experience.
The end result being that I'm left with a renewed sense of vigor and interest to seize the day.
Thank you for the motivation!
Cheers
I like that you have the music on top as you play...it makes the experience even better!
Tchaikovsky is a great composer! more than just Swan lake as we know of. I love his solo piano music. And great demonstration here!
This piece of art makes me feel something no other piece ever made me feel.
4:49 - stunning - I had no idea that piece existed.
And you can really hear T's style in that piece.
wow-yes.
I swear, we have exactly the same taste...

Paul den Hollander / 03data I cant even read this, I literally only study pieces. I have some kind of tunnel vision where I can only see one line at a time. Good news is I memorize very easily.
Youre a very good sight reader if you can sight read this at tempo!!
@Paul den Hollander / 03data You two also have the same first name. Coincidence? I think not!
Can you suggest other piano pieces?? I'm kinda a bad sight reader too.
I legit can’t play nor read now understand at which point the pianist is, ever 😥
Excellent performance, bringing true musicality to the "dots on the page."
It takes time to learn a piece, but skill to preform it....this guy sure has that talent I mean...wow
David Marcum because this is Russian classic. Russian were best pianists
Gobsmacked. Wow. I'm postponing work just to learn this piece. Your playing is truly inspiring and the notation makes it perfect to follow. In effect, you're a fantastic teacher without having to say a word. I'm fortunate that I read music, and the synchro of the notes with your playing makes it easy to follow. forgot to mention the dynamics.. you 're an outstanding musician! It requires a true understanding of the piece to play this way.
Sad... but It's so beautiful
it's ... sentimentale, haha.
Quite:) Bloody spell correction doesn't appreciate such sentiments:)
Sad for our modern life , but not for the pure beauty , you think it's sade because you hear another music...
한국분이 여기에도😍😍😍
This is Russia...
Lovely pieces like this are why I love playing the piano. 😊
never have I been so in love with someone's hands before
Блестящее исполнение произведения великого композитора! Хочется слушать и слушать! Восторг! Браво!
What a beauty, to mix melancholy into a 3/4 dance... odd and eloquent metaphor for Tchaikowsky's own frustrated loves perhaps....
This piece can really make you teary.
Tchaikovsky es el mayor melodista de la historia. Conmovedora belleza toda su obra.
When you’re totally in love and you don’t have any word to describe what you feel, you can listen to piano pieces of Tchaikovski, and the notes will represent exactly what you feel.
What a delightful waltz, light, frivolous and airy! Beautiful!
Thank you:)
Amazing .Fascinating to watch and listen to. Beautifully played. Thank you so much
oo, this is the kind of pieces I usually like. Thank you posting!! Beautiful performance as always.
Finally found it! Damn, been searching for a piano version for ages. Thanks for the sheet music, mate.
Toute la noblesse de la Musique voyage à travers les âges et pour l'éternité .
A splendid interpretation, amazing work Paul!

One of your finest performances, sir.
I play a lot of the pieces that you have once played, but hopefully someday I will be able to play classical music just as great as you
Every time I want to hear a piano piece I'm always happy to find one of your videos, Paul.
Linda valsa! É um lamento que penetra bem fundo na alma!
It's so beautiful. I will play it one day
Ах Чайковский, как же я влюблен в эту музыку. Такой простой и понятный для русского человека мотив. Чего только стоит переигранный мной альбом "Времена года"
Incredible,
Tchaikovsky's “Waltz Sentimental”
and Scriabin's Etude Op. 8 No. 12.
The character is different.
The melody is the same.
Holy shit didn't notice that
I've heard a lot of piano pieces in my life , but this one moved me always ... mysteriously ...
In the "Chopin way" ... Brillant and very mélodic valse ... One of my favorite piano work !
Sad and melancholic as a confinment time ( ! ) ...
I love your playing, Paul. What a beautiful piece, too.
How I love Tchaikovsky! I forgot to breathe, listening to your playing.
Thanks for bringing such tunes to public notice Expands joy in our world. R
The most Chopinesque piece by Tchaikovsky I’ve ever heard.
Didn't know this one before, thank you for playing it. Definitely a piece I will play in the near future! I really enjoyed your interpretation. The way you played the pauses and the dynamics gave it a lot of soul. Spot on and beautiful, in my opinion. :-)
absolutely beautiful!
Amazing and also great to follow along with the notes
Desde Lima Perú , hoy Domingo 24 de Noviembre del 2019 quiero agradecer a Paul Barton por compartir tan buenas melodías...
Absolutely beautiful playing.
Interesting choice coming up to 3:26 -- seems to have played a decrescendo rather than the written crescendo.
Waltz but feel sad and romantic... I love this piece
très belle interprétation. Bravo. On retrouve ce magnifique morceau sur le premier cd de Liana Gourdjia, violoniste internationale au talent unique ! c'est tellement beau. merci :-)
Most beautiful piece of him. Please do a tutorial of this. Please please please
You have to learn piano to play a such piece, a tutorial mustn't be good
GO LEARN THE PIANO
The people telling you to learn piano properly aren't being elitists! Pieces like this take serious technical skill, which you likely don't have if you're learning piano off of TH-cam tutorials. Patrickkill No problem dude. It's such a shame that you don't have time because you seem very passionate about piano!
Remarquable ! Merveilleux. Merci. Bravo. Cordialement. Olivier F

Oh Paul, your videos are my inspiration to keep practising the piano, Its hard to get straight good at first, mostly since I study music and piano on my own.

Excelente ejecución e interpretación maestro Paul Barton
So beautiful!... I love it!... regards from Chile
Beautiful! I’m really grateful, each video I discover a new piece, that I can learn !
Kind of sounds like Chopin....
Joe Trampozzo mayb that’s why I like it so much

@@thecluelesscomposer chopin died in 1839 Tchaikovsky was born at1840 but was not much infloence. Tchaikovsky was much more infloenced by glinka
I dont see that
No he died in 149 נימרוד שפר
Nice. Will study it, just after Chopin. Thanks.
Thank you for these overhead views, they are so helpful !
Bravo! Bravo! Wonderful!! Thank you Mr. Paul Barton.
so weird that you keep posting videos of pieces I just started listening to.

this piece sounds soo good on flute
Bravo, Paul !
Bellissimo !!! 😍❤️
This piece is fairly easy to play, too! 😘😍
Paul, you’re awesome. Thanks for all these awesome videos.
lovely, just lovely. Thanks Paul.
Couldn't hold the tears back.
Bravo!! C'est super bien joué! Et j'adore le faite qu'il y est la partition au dessus. 👍🏼

Eine wirklich geschmackvolle Vorführung.
Beautiful! So very beautiful!
4:24 This is the magic part
I would so greatly appreciate a tutorial of this! I think it'll be my next long term piece since I'm not entirely sure of its difficulty/my skill level.

Young lover of this piece here.❤
Are you from iran fatima jan?
Ммм прекрасно!😍
it's actually quite redundant for a Tchaikovsky piece to be titled sentimental lol beautiful. looking forward to learning it.
i absolutely loved your performance sir. Life is great with a companion, same with this great masterpiece. It is so shallow without the violin, it feels incomplete and lost without it. However, it is just fine by itself and still conveys the same sadness and mystery.
I just realised its the music from David Firth's videos....this just makes it 100 times better
Trop beau ! J'adorrrrre!
It's similar with the style of Chopin. Am II wrong?
They're both Romantic composers, so you're not wrong :)
Chopin is lighter and dreamful either Tchaikovsky

It's beautiful. And I want Seasons by the same composer.
