How does Katchan Armour defeat a T90. Did the T90 drive in to it really fast. Any case maybe India should spend money cleaning it streets instead of tanks. I know people that grew up in the worst slums in South Africa that where disgusted and appalled by India. So the fact you bragging about the size of the cock on your tank is pathetic. Now go back to work fixing people's windows.

@@shashankshekhar9819 What you're planning on having in the future is irrelevant. What matters is what you have today because if you were to go to war today then you would fighting with less than ideal equipment and the enemy isn't going to be terrible obliging to that fact.
And don't boast that you could buy better equipment but haven't because then you're boasting that you haven't done the sensible thing. What a stupid retort.

Eh, just because it's not a top-of-the-line MBT, doesn't mean it's bad. Depending on the strategic situation a T-55 or Centurion can still be a decisive weapon, since any tank is leaps and bounds better than no tank. It's then up to the General staff to ensure that your tanks are in the right place at the right time.

@youcometome9 The IED's are pretty huge. Some a over a 100 kgs of Mortar rounds or high explosive. NATO has some of the best armoured tanks because of that. But I agree that they have not been hit by APFSDS projectiles since 3rd world nations don't have it.

@Dika Vinci That's true. However no one believes them until a miracle story of a M1 Abrams surviving a T14 Armata (still not in service) APFSDS projectile comes in a propaganda video. That is how the perception of a tank's ability plays out, the only tanks we trust are those battle tested ones. Forget the testing done on homeground against far more challenging conditions. I think your are not up to date. I personally don't know what new caliber the USA want to develope, I didn't even knew that they want that because I also don't know if the M1 Abrams turret can take a bigger gun the 120mm
But back to the topic. First of all not germany/France are developing a 130mm gun, Germany or to be more specific Rheinmetall defences is developing that thing on there own. I believe there are also no puplic information on what gun they will take in the end right now because France wants a 140mm gun. There was a attempt to use 140mm as an upgrade for the 120mm caliber lead by france/great Britain and Germany as a partner. The project in itself was never finished, Germany just used a longer gun barrel for the 120mm which made the 120mm as strong as they predicted the 140mm would be at the time. Also one problem would be that basically all leopards would have needed a new turret plus autoloader if the used one staged ammunition.
The only tank that I know can take a 140mm is the south Korean K2 black Phanter which was developed at the time the 140mm caliber was a hot topic, but because Europe dropped it they also just took the L/55.

Actually there is a program for Arjun Mk2(not to be confused with Arjun Mk1A or NGMBT) with significant weight reduction using HNS and aluminium wheels, a smoothbore gun, better crew protection. Probably also with a 3 man crew but its a toss up since Indian Mechanized forces are pretty disposed towards 4 man crew. A 1800hp engine is on work and will probably be online in 2 years. So the problem with mobility is solved.

Being Indian I appreciate an unbiased review of both tanks and I think Red has it. Arjun is a maiden effort at indigenization and to proclaim it the better is stupid.. It has its share of shortfalls and needs to improve with successive iterations. As for Al Khalid, I did expect it to have certain things going it's way with Chinese assistance but ultimately cost factor will always play a role in determining its prowess.... Thanks Red.
Others who call both tanks shitty need to remember that no country produced world class tanks in one go, especially given today's parameters. Secondly, it also depends on the crew on both sides. Indo Pak wars have had amazing tank battles, all thanks to the hardiest men manning them.

Good comment. See what my point is that India has the money all they have to do is do something to keep their educated people in their country and make them help their country. (Most of the graduated student leave India and go to west) India military has a pretty decent budget, in comparison, Pakistan gives a dime to their army(Yeah I called, the government of Pakistan needs to balance some stuff and the army needs to be given a much larger budget). So, both tanks did with what they had i.e. Al-Khalid excelled with the low budget while Arjun Excelled with many requirements by the military.

Love that you made the video, but there’s a little thing I’d like to correct (I’m not one of the salty ones, just want to share the little knowledge I have too. I enjoy the content). I have driven the AK and have been around it during Pakistani military exercises.
The thing about AKs armor needs some explanation; The Pakistanis have a few hundred AKs that have either Full ERA or Varta+Hull ERA which belong to the “ready” regiments. (Strike regiments as the Pakistanis call them). So they wouldn’t necessarily have to start installing ERA on hundreds of tanks when a war starts, they would have a few ready while they put it on the others, the reason for this is probably costs and availability. So in a fight it would have that ERA. (I have pictures if you want to see them.)
All AKs and even the Al-zarrars Pakistan has do have laser warning receivers. LTS786P made by GIDS. (You can find a link to that on their website).
Newer AKs (the one in the video when you were talking about it’s mobility) have third generation thermals for the gunner from SAGEM.
Pakistan also has the Chinese 125-3 projectiles. Not sure about availability.

Yeah but as Red Effect has pointed out, you don't need to fully penetrate a tank to take it out of action. It's a situational advantage in general and the crew of the Al-Khalid would have to carefully make use of it.

@@TheNicestPig Arjun has tested DRDO FSPADS Mk2 which can pen bit more than 530mm (actual range classified), enough to pen frontal of an Al Khalid from 2 km away.
Plus, Al Khalid's 600mm round can only go through the hole in Arjun's armour, which is the gun sight. Other areas are as well protected as a T-90 (meaning a 600mm pen isn't enough).
Not to mention the fact that Arjun can launch an 8 km ATGM from its main cannon.
TBH I wished they hadn't mucked up Arjun's development as much as they did, but against Al Khalid its sufficient.

@@TheNicestPig The round is entering in service for T-90 and T-72 already. Orders have been placed to a private Indian company. It won't take long before it enters production for Arjun as well. It will take longer for Pakistan to get out of the current economic, social and political strife its in right now. Meaning that by the time Pakistan is ready for war next, India will have that round in service across its tank fleet.
Agree about the gun sight and mantlet problem. Its a big weak spot. A weak spot that is as weak as Al Khalid's entire frontal armour (forget 30 degrees sidecheeks or the hull front). So for Arjun, its a weak spot on an otherwise strong armour while for Al Khalid its no weak spots because the entire frontal armour is weak.

I think Al-Khalid is better. The infrastructures of both countries are not really good, and IMO is far important to have tanks able to be transported than having a better FCS which wouldn't be usable if the tank cannot be transported to the combat zone.
We also have to put them in the infantry support role, where I would really prefer the Al-Khalid tank for its variety of HE projectiles and ATGMs.

Upgrading the Arjun to match it would be no simple matter. That 120mm rifled gun is unique to India being a one piece ammo design. It therefore cannot take advantage of advances in 120mm smoothbore or British rifled ammo. 2. Arjun's ground pressure is 0.84 kg /sq m compared to 0.9 kg/sq m of al khalid despite being heavier.
    3. Arjun power to weight ratio is 24hp/ton compared to 26 hp / ton for Al khalid in real world not that big a difference.

Al-Khalid was made for 80's or 90's wars scenarios, when even the M1 Abrams or the Leopard 2 have no good fire control systems compared to today's. Arjun have serious flaws, like the side of the gunner periscope have almost no armour protection or the ammunition loaded on the rear side of the turret have none protection against ammunition wreck, if the enemy hit this spot, the entire crew will die due ammunition explosion.
Personally, I do prefer Arjun, even I don't like it. The capability of commander's periscope turn 360 degrees can track multiple targets. The gunner can concentrate his attention to the main target and the commander can turn his independent periscope, searching for the next enemy. It's increased area of protection by ERA and it's modern composite armour can protect the crew from frontal hits better than Al-Khalid's. But, in terms of fire power, Al-Khalid is far away, having a better penetration of its APFSDS and more reliable ATGM, the Ukrainian Kombat, with its incredible 950mm of penetration.

    • @SaviourSword995
      @SaviourSword995 4 ปีที่แล้ว

It's basically superior firepower and mobilityvs Superior protection and detection system. This is basically a loop of debate. Arjun has gone for protection and advanced system to protect from tank rounds and AGTM at the cost of mobility and firepower which is opposite of how Pakistan gone for their tank.

In defense of the Arjun, the LAHAT missiles its gun can fire are actually pretty good and are more accurate than the Ukrainian Kombat missiles used on the Al-Khalid.

"reliable tank sources"? Maybe. But he does get a lot of stuff about Arjun wrong. For example: missing the fact that it has a cannon launched ATGM that gives it a massive advantage in firepower as it outranges Al Khalid by more than 4X.
And then he makes the erroneous statement about how Arjun has difficulty going over soft ground when reality is that Arjun has lower ground pressure than a T-90.

@@abramar123 Al-Khalid and Arjun are built from the ground up, yes, but they are built using technologies from aging designs. Their performance right now is equivalent to a tank that was developed before them (T-72B-ish) and borderline obsolete when their first upgrades were introduced. Also T-72Bs are currently used by a lot of third world nations. The chassis are already overweight and difficult to upgrade without major financial means, of which neither Pakistan nor India can afford; and without affecting performance severely, to have NERA armor matching current more advanced tanks so their armour can take more than one hit.

which is why we went with T-90s but i'll have to say it's a good tank given it was our first try, hopefully we can improve on the tanks, besides we have around 158 Arjun 1A tanks around a 100 Arjun 2 tanks and is said to replace the much older T-72 by 2035, the latter is much better than the former and is on par with upgraded T-72. But half of our tank fleet is T-90 Bhishma which is quite adequate . It would be interesting to see how we move forward with our tanks.

I think the India tank is better if you consider the terrain it would be used in which is largely Arid Rajasthan, which I remember from 1971 War (just) an Indian General saying it was good tank country. i.e it can cope with heavy armour as there are few rivers to cross or soft ground. I assume Red Effect is Russian and therefore swamps and rivers are a major concern, which explains why Russian tanks are lighter than British Tanks which have mainly seen combat in Arid terrain since 1945, actually since 1941, in Europe they mainly use Shermans in 44/45. So 68 tons is not that big a concern for India whereas poor protection of the Al-Khalid is for Pakistan.
From a Russia perspective the Challenger Megatron is a unthreatening tank, even though in defence it would probably win against even the T14 Armata, it would be too heavy in Russia with all its swamps and rivers to cross.

Arjun has a sight in the front of the turret. Creating a weak point where you want the most armor protection. Front tutret is most easily hit in tank duel. Why not mount the sight on top of the turret where it does not create a weak point. It can turn and look over obstacles. That is 3 advantages you miss out on because of what I consider a design flaw.

Redesigning the sight on the (former) Leopard 2A4 on which the tank is based off on was actually quite the technological endeavor, not as easy as as it looks by any means. Thus it's only natural that India didn't go with it, they would be better of getting another tank since they would've had to replace all of those turrets.

Fair Assessment. Indian here. Both tanks are just about OK & Average and work in progress for India & Pakistan. We have a long way to go to reach Leopard 2A7, T14 Armata, m1a2 sep v4 standards. For Arjun, why we are using a 120mm rifled barrel gun ? And 300mm AFPSDS is not even Cold War quality ! For Al-Khalid, its effectively a Pakistani copy of a Chinese Copy of a Soviet design tank.
