I think my favorite part is the commentary from back and forth between the host and driver. The Dan Osterhout one: - "Alright Dan, that looked really smooth. I mean no stutter, no-n-no no stammer, no bounce whatsoever-almost. Were you pleased?" - "Absolutely. 'Love the suspension." - "It was awesome! It was nailed down, I-think-you-did-a-good-job." - "*Assured Nod* Absolutely." *Cricket-cricket-- Cricket*
How to be a top truck competitor this year... 1. Buy a Chevy 2. Make engine upgrades or don't it doesn't seem to matter. 3. Beef up the axles 4. Use the rest of the stock drive line so that way when it sees the slightest bit of stress it takes a dump Seriously, are these the best trucks you could find motor trend? There are a couple rigs that stand out but, the majority of these trucks should of stayed at home; along with the announcer.
RubiconJoey this is a blue collar DIY event bud. There's no strategy in spending top dollar on top of the line parts. Spend money on what's needed or fabricate it yourself... oh and bring lots of spares, It's all part of the fun. You are right though looks like the majority of readers are Chevy fans :/ lol
+Jordan Burgess Yeah kinda disappointed. I like my Bowties but this year got too stacked IMHO. Also a distinct lack of Jeeps (a first I believe). Love the Scout but dang.
+ExplosionWard9 yea there's always been a solid arrangement of different rigs. don't get me wrong, I love watching this, have been since it started. but I definitely am disappointed with this year. also been hoping that they would change up the course a bit. in my opinion ultimate adventure is better. always different.
+Pierre-Yves Puech You were a mechanical designer for that series of axletech axles? *bows* Bravo! Now, lets get you and the fellas with Unimog together and build something NUTS for the off road community. :D
Bowman really needs to put some 4 links on those real leafs. The torsion is going to wreck his drive train if he doesn't make that upgrade. Not to mention I'm going to say thats why he had to finish the frame twister event in 2 wheel drive.
It still amazes me how many people enter competitions like this that have done nothing to limit axle-wrap. The smart guys were running four-links all around. The other guys are not worth mentioning, since they never should have signed up for this in the first place.
I wouldn't doubt it, some of these rigs don't look built very well. I'm not sure what the engine rules are, but forced induction would make the tow test a breeze
@@westonharby165 " ABOUT THE TOW TEST: This is the only event in TTC’s seven-event repertoire that doesn’t require mud bogging, rockcrawling, or deep water navigation. Nonetheless, this kickoff event instills fear in competitors because it has the potential to annihilate weak components. The Tow Test is like a truck pull that drank a case of energy drinks. It takes place on a dirt hill that climbs approximately 13 feet in elevation over its 150-foot length and it has a maximum angle of approximately 16 degrees. Each competitor’s rig was fastened to a 36,000-pound cement mixer and each competitor was allowed one pull. There was no time limit and a pull was completed when forward momentum ceased or the front axle of the cement mixer crossed the finish line. This event favors heavy rigs with big power and grippy tires."
I wonder how long until we see an all electric truck at one of these events. Something like a hub motor at every wheel could be exceptionally reliable with so much less to break.
+Rangerover matt They seem to do one when they feel like it lol. Tho, it's clear it's many gears within gears ... If I was a Dodge guy I would enjoy the MT shoes more...
next episode is gonna be a 50s ford truck of some kind, and the 2 episodes before the hellcat swap which was awesome for everyone, where all chevy powered anyways. #justsaying
Slamming everything to a stop that fast, on the Pulling Event? Your Guaranteed To BUST most of The Toughest Stuff! Did you learn anything? Maybe Next year? Axle Wrap Anyone?
Jesus this interviewer/host is annoying (his screaming and ruining the audio). Also, a compressor on the mic would've been nice so the audio didn't peak all over the place because of his awful screaming.
+halsoy EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR. Just imagine how much better would be this series if they used a competent but not goofy host. And some goddam compressors on the mic.
lol do you think someone in charge of reading the comment secticon is like "fuck this hatters" and thats the reason constructive criticism never was heard... all this years? I mean they should know by now right?
+Michelle Collins True, but rock bouncers/crawlers aren't capable of deep water like in the Tank Trap. Every other challenge though, a rock bouncer would do pretty well (maybe not the tow test because of weight, but still)
I'm watching this; about to comment if reversing is a penalty and why no one has remotely tried backing up an inch to 'bump' up an obstacle; like everyone in my neck of the woods (Ont. Canada) would. Then, Eric hits it - 16:57. No wonder y'all got chopped. xD
+Matthew Neuforth And one of those 2 broke on the line... One could say they might have taken the "foolish route" ?
9 ปีที่แล้ว
+ramairgto72 going for the challenge.... One could say 'you idiot' for snapping the axels on a diesel chevy while in the snow, but instead, we actually tow em out.
+Tyee Cambrón What? Since your comment had nothing to do with what we're looking at, are you inventing a story about Toyota 4x4s going around pulling 3/4 and 1 ton trucks out of snow?
I would have run tractor tires filled with water or just fill the ones they have on there with water to give them more weight I also would have loaded the rig with every jack and gas can I could fit they cant get the power to the ground very well.
Angelo Romero not from China. Same vehicle different name? Which is the original? I know they sell the same vehicle just different badges but they should say the name it was branded.

I love how in this year the rockwells are breaking like crazy. But the 14 bolts and Dana 60's are CHAMPS!!!!
To the announcer, cocaine is a hell of a drug.
+BiffBallbag
Yeah, this guy is pretty bad at announcing the event. Fred Williams from Dirt Every Day would be a lot more entertaining.
+toyomatt84 I think you mean "dirt every couple of months"
BiffBallbag Sadly, yeah. :( But, it even states on the MT Channel that it only airs so often.
+BiffBallbag Unfortunately he also has a magazine to run, so time is an issue. But always enjoy the episodes when they do show up.
+Stuka87 yeah I like them too, the title just makes me laugh
Every year I think the same thing. " boy this is a badass competition... But man does this host suck".
Kinda the same with every motortrend event
Yeah he needs to do less talking... so annoying.
I agree... wanna punch that dude in the face!
agreed
Proper trucks! I find this way more entertaining than the diesel power challenge.
wish you guys made them longer, i liked it when it was uploading each section with 20 minutes each section
It well be a video a day for the next week I believe
+Kaneikins they want you to buy the dvd
+hgghgguk i didnt even know there were dvd's, Australia doesnt get much American stuff... apart from hollywood :/
+hgghgguk yeah :( no thanks..
Kaneikinso
I don't really even give a damn about trucks and offroading but I actually really like watching this every year. Good luck to the drivers!
Major props to the guys running manual transmissions. That's insane!
Not even one Ford? I'm disappointed.
But I AM really diggin' that International (as always!) and that '70 Jimmy!
Host: "He seems to be using a low gear. He's using the motor mostly"
Me: Face slaps and jumps out 3rd story window

+TheExtremeCube Did not know that. Either way, looks like a lot of carnage already.

this is why the off road scene is better than the car scenes, all built vehicles and you'll never see two that look alike!
Top Blazer Challenge 2015!
yep
+nick conner Pretty much true.
pretty disappointed in the selection of trucks this year, almost the whole field is the same
yea when he attempted the truck pull and pretty much broke half of his truck, it was pretty pathetic.
+Jordan Burgess Then you should have voted. These rigs are chosen by the readers. So its what the public wanted to see. :)
+Jordan Burgess Totally. The whole thing is the same. Pick a new course too! Ultimate adventure is better.
+Jordan Burgess Yeah kinda disappointed. I like my Bowties but this year got too stacked IMHO. Also a distinct lack of Jeeps (a first I believe). Love the Scout but dang.

wow, no ford or even dodge products this year; wow
Well Chevys and Toyotas are winning combinations, but I agree it's always fun to see all the different rigs. Hell is there even a jeep this year!?
+Tom Pree There is not much left of the original vehicle in these rigs. The engines are all Chrysler and GM.
+Tom Pree i am not a jeep fan, but please put a jeep in the video. even if it is a 2d cartoon drawn jeep with sound effects from a 6yr old.
Tom Pree Cummins?
Felt a bit of pride when one of the Canadian boys destroyed this course
yeah I'm Canadian aswell
Blazium im Austalian
I have wayyyyyyy to much mechanical sympathy to ever enjoy this sort of stuff. But it is entertaining none the less
10:03 that axle wrap tho
Nice profile picture
as a former mechanical designer of that specific axle type, I can tell you my guts twisted at the same rate as the mechanic when I saw the images! :-)
+Pierre-Yves Puech You were a mechanical designer for that series of axletech axles? *bows* Bravo! Now, lets get you and the fellas with Unimog together and build something NUTS for the off road community. :D
Looks like the guy needs a ladder bar lol
Was like watching a football players knee blow out
That's awesome thumper was made in Colorado here in fort Collins at seneff transmissions and I helped work on it when I was 15
nothing to watch... then motortrend uploads a 20+ minute vid
thank you motortrend team, you beautiful people :)
i could watch this all day long!
wow this is the year of square body chevy huh?
Yang kesini sesudah nonton jejelogy mana suaranya
WHY IS THE HOST ALWAYS SHOUTING????!!? Jeez that's pretty annoying.
poor toyota :/ sounded like a 2jz in there :)
+Gerrit-Jan Bergwerf yeah the doop just gave it hell i and killed it he doesnt know how to tow u have to take it easy and get it roling 1st
It says 350 on the hood..
+diablo son That's no fun, who cares if the car breaks down? Just fix it.
+Gerrit-Jan Bergwerf +Jason Rayfield It does have a 7M-GTE & R154. Pretty unique.
Yeah, to bad he couldn't fix it for the second event
This made my day walking up feeling sick at 5 in the morning but then think here
Aww yeah before work!? Might have to even get a DVD this year if it's good.
hell ya we got some Berta boys in there
Being from hollister california I'm proud my 35k town has someone doing something with their lives. lol
needs more vehicle variety
Purple Minion!!! :D I'm totally rooting for her!
Bowman really needs to put some 4 links on those real leafs. The torsion is going to wreck his drive train if he doesn't make that upgrade. Not to mention I'm going to say thats why he had to finish the frame twister event in 2 wheel drive.
Glad to see that crazy watch is back again

I live in town. Some of the rigs that go in there on a random day would shame many of the trucks that get selected to compete.
I wouldn't doubt it, some of these rigs don't look built very well. I'm not sure what the engine rules are, but forced induction would make the tow test a breeze

It's that time of the year again, I love it :D
I'm don't really pull towards a particular brand vehicle, but a Chevy truck seems to be the perfect platform to build any type of rig on
medford oregon? sick! i'm currently 2 hours from there
Is this the like tournament all of the Chevys have to go to get to the real top truck challenge?
Eric Kam is the hometown hero right now hahaha
Oye! Four Wheeler! Whats with the little snippet at the end of the TTC segment in the publication saying TTC is no more!?!?
Yippee at last!!!
I've been waiting months for this.
other then the diesel power challenge. this is what i was waitting for!
What does the tow test have to do with wheeling, I've never got this test. It basically makes it so the low hp trucks cant win overall.
It's a crying shame these competitors couldn't afford some big tires!!!
I wonder how long until we see an all electric truck at one of these events. Something like a hub motor at every wheel could be exceptionally reliable with so much less to break.
I know this is 6 years old, but you sir are a futurist
I miss that huge red crew cab chevy from Oregon last year
Yes. TTC is here again!
Love these trucks and this competition
Holy Diver! That was Awsome! Crud! Wow!
I just don't know if I can take anymore of this host.
+Austin Powell He's just SO BAD!
Love this series
where is the new roadkill?
This Friday apparently.
+Rangerover matt They seem to do one when they feel like it lol.

Because I was #justsaying to the other guy that in my opinion there hasn't been *that* much dodge sponsorship.
Hmm, quite a number of fellow Canadians this time round.
First guy, first event. any thoughts? "keep it in one piece. . ."
Results: he breaks something
That Cummins pulled pretty hard.
top truck challenge 2015: brought to you by general motors.

woo go eric,, represent us canadians
+Paul hell yeah man, he nailed the frame twister like a boss.
arent there going to be any more top truck challenges?!
All the guys in the frame twister doing 15 min runs then buddy comes in and does it in 1min with a hurt motor 😂
Thought it was an RC in the thumbnail until I noticed the people standing next to the truck
That was awesome. Thanks for the content
Less yapping more raw footage.
Kcducttaper1 lol thank you

The culverts and tires look like they were given that idea from a Scale RC crawler course.

This year on Top GM product challenge.
I love trucks.
Did that first guy in the tow challenge (Jason) remind anyone else of Turbo Yoda?
that guy with the cummins, is it the 6.7L? AND THE TOYOTA IS A 2JZ!!!!
I miss the freiburger.... what did you do with him??? and mike.. who can forget mike?
Love how they give the year and model, so they are all stock then? lol A 1917 model T could beat them all.
any link to the k10 headlights? those LEDs look sick lol
are they auto gear boxes like drag transmissions with shorter ratios or are they stick shift?
Can't i pay and get all the episodes right now?
The rigs running 2.5 Rockwells are almost better off with Chevy FF Corporate 14-bolts it seems...rear ends letting go and all.
Looks fun! Be safe out there.
Haha. Only makes sense that the Cummins would win the pull
OMG his blinker fluid bubbled!
why do they do straight for wheel spin? isnt that kind of contra intuitive?
these trucks don't stand a chance against the southern rock bouncer association

wheres the FORDS
A stock dent side with a lift kit, 44s, and a mild 460 would best most of these trucks
awesome stuff and event!
Are they not allowed to adjust tire pressure?
