The Tow Test and Frame Twister! - Top Truck Challenge 2014

You know what a truck pull is, right? Well our tow test is way better: our track extends 150 feet, climbs 13 feet in elevation, and has a maximum angle of approximately 16 degrees. Each competitor’s rig is tethered to 5-ton 6x6 weighing in at over 36,000 pounds. Each competitor was allowed one pull, no time limit. This event grabs competitor’s full attention, because it’s the first event and has the potential to quickly weed out weak components.
Through the years, the Frame Twister has evolved, and for 2014 about half way into the course, competitors arrived at the infamous Squeeze Rock section facing boulders, the dogleg, and the dreaded log section. In case you’re wondering, the Frame Twister at Top Truck Challenge really has twisted vehicle frames over the years. It has also wasted driveshafts, destroyed tires, and thrashed suspensions. Each competitor is allowed 10 minutes to complete the Frame Twister course. Hey, you didn’t expect it to be a run-of-the-mill first day did you?

I always enjoy this every year and I'm not much of and off-roader anymore. Frankly, and maybe this is obvious, but I love that its not just about money and horsepower, its about the entire approach. I love to see the ways different people try to problem solve, from the trucks themselves, to the driving, to the overall strategy for the week. Really cool.

For real! TTC 2015 seemed like everyone was just breaking parts left and right and none of the trucks were up to the task. At least we can re-watch the more exciting one, haha. Wonder what 2016 will be like..
I'm a Ford guy, so I'd love to see one of them win, and even though I have a soft spot for Internationals as well... That Ram is done right!! Well done on the wins!

the brain in is right foot just took over.
Would be nice if during the scoreboard segments the truck was named too, the trucks are easier to remember than the driver's names.

levylovits I come from New Mexico and it is more traditional down there. The watch was made by my friend a Navajo. Its a watch band I won't break, has time, temp, compass,barometer, altimeter, GPS, freeze ray, grappling hook launcher, and decoder...lol

As with the diesel truck challenge vids, I wish that you'd put the guy's names AND what vehicle they drive in the results rank list. I don't know all these guys and just seeing their names in the rankings means little to me. Great vids otherwise!

It's interesting that 6 contenders are on Super Swamper tires and 4 are on Micky Thompson's, but no other brands are represented here. What's the issue? Does no one else make tires this big? Are other brands just not good enough to win, so people don't bother with them? Or, does Interco and MT give away a lot of sponsorship tires that sways people to use them?
Stupid question, anyone know why these guys aren't running agricultural tires with the big tread blocks? No matter how many times the guy said "those mickey thompsons are hooking up," they looked kinda useless in the mud.
O I wish I had the money, shop and a little more experience to do this...

I enjoy watching these videos (especially now since DED is really the only thing on here worth watching [generation gap is okay too I suppose- if you can't find anything else to watch..]) but I just really don't see why somebody would build one of these vehicles. I mean, yeah it might be fun when it's working as it's suppose to.. but there is no 'real' reward that is going to make it worth spending $30k+ for a vehicle that you can't even legally drive on the street. and can't even play with it very often.

TheExtremeCube I am extremely aware of that, I just don't see what fun anybody could get out of running a vehicle for 25-30 mins a month and most likely breaking something and having to pour more money into it ....for nothing in return.
im pretty sure they run them much more than that. They have to tow them to offroad parks though

casual 4wdriver here, what are those disks on the top of the axle? I have always wondered.
That's the brake. Some setups use a brake on the input to the diff. Gets it a little further from damage, saves a little weight, and uses the gear ratio for a little extra stopping power.
