A beautiful and rare gem of a song from John that actually wasn't a cover (it was confusing until I did some digging, so please refer to the back info below). John's vocals always speak loud and proud, and convey so much emotion that he chains you to his heart! 🥰 A shoutout to Farnsey's band for they sounded amazing, especially their instrumental at the end. 💯🔥 I'm a huge fan of Richard Marx which started as a teenager and still are. So I always enjoy listening to him performing this song as well. For he and John are both supremely talented artists in their own unique ways, with Richard also being a gifted songwriter. My thoughts: I believe this song is about an ex girlfriend who’s still got a hold of him, to where she must break the chains around his heart so he can live life free and whole again. This song reminds us of the fact that we all need to be in healthy NOT toxic relationships!!! Back info: John and Richard have been friends for many years and their families would often holiday together. Richard wrote this song especially for John to record it. For whatever reason I believe John wasn't satisfied with the end result, so made the decision not to release it on The Chain Reaction album. Perhaps it didn't fit the theme of the album? Whether Richard may have been disappointed that it was not released, he then decided to record and release it himself. What you will notice is Richard changed the title to "Chains Around MY Heart", which also meant some of the lyrics changed accordingly. However I do believe this song was on the B side of the Burn For You "single" for the Chain Reaction album released in 1990.
