    can we use any line to test? As long as it goes from the origin? Suppose for the second line; could we have used y=0 , approaching from X-axis?

      It doesn't have to go through the origin. That was the case specific to this question because the pair (x,y) approaches (0,0).
      The guy used y = mx, which covers y = 0 where m equals 0. To answer your question shortly, yes we could, it's unnecessary though.
