Out of the two-hundred plus comments here there is precious little commending Daryl Dragon for being the co-writer of Cuddle Up. There is a lot of praise given here for the lush and heavenly string arrangements plus the creative inventiveness of the key changes - you can chalk those up to Daryl's involvement working with Dennis during the composition and recording. He was the son of the famous musician and orchestra leader Carmen Dragon and a formidable talent in the Southern CA music scene. RIP D.D.
You read my mind. I saw all of these comments and it was very cultlike. Dennis got a lot of help from his friends, but nothing could save that voice. Daryl was a genius, as we saw with his work on his own records.
I went to several Beach Boys concerts in the 70s and just loved watching Dennis. He always had so much energy on stage and really seemed to enjoy himself. I was totally floored when I listened the his Pacific Ocean Blue album when it first came out. I never realized what a real talent he was! Everyone always talks about Brian, but I feel Carl and Dennis gave so much of themselves to the group and never really got the credit they deserved. What beautiful souls........RIP. I miss them so much!
Carl and Dennis both are criminally underrated. Some of the blame is on Mike. He always makes it a point to talk about Dennis' demons instead of the raw remarkable talent !!!!!
Without a doubt yesssssssss brother this song an Forever are two of Dennis's best! Carl had the best voice of the brother's and also penned some beautiful song's himself

Few musicians came out of their shell like Dennis, he was always considered a pretty face rather than an actually talented composer. It’s sad that the records with his songs sold poorly at the time. Cuddle Up is one of the best love ballads I’ve ever heard, warm piano, vulnerable vocals and sweeping strings.
Imagine someone loving you so much and then writing a song, THIS song to YOU... What a Blessed person they would be... more than they would ever know...
The key change at 1:28 - 1:42 is just brilliant. Not to mention Dennis' vocal performance was so raw and emotional. One of The Beach Boys' most underrated compositions IMO.
It's 1975 The Beach Boys have played a perfect set at Wembly Stadium and for the encore Denis says I'd like to dedicate this song to you all and proceeds to sing "You are so Beautiful" as the sun is fading and I sit here listening to this 43 years later with a tear in my eye. Ah music....
ONE WITH THE OCEAN, Dennis Wilson. This song, besides its innate beauty, it’s a superb display of Dennis’ musical sensibility and talent. By 1972, Brian Wilson was at his rock bottom, even though, with Daryl "Captain" Dragon, managed to help his brother with this song arrangement (strings & voices) to enhance it to a celestial level. Baffles me to understand why this tune and many other Beach Boys masterpieces are almost unknown by people.
You’re so right! I used to take great delight in sharing some of these unknown but super special Beach Boy songs with others. Songs like this one, “Meant for You”. “All This is That”, and “You Still Believe in Me.”
Dennis was NOT the untalented Beach Boy. This song and Forever show a touch of grace in his soul that was hidden by the disastrous part of his life. Haydn and Mozart never wrote anything that is finer than this. RIP, Dennis.
SO TRUE! Who would even THINK that!?! I've been listening to his music for a whole week now and I'm really impressed by it all. I wish he took control of the band after Brian stepped down; man the Beach Boys could have been magnificent
Dennis was an absolute genius. This song is so very very beautiful that it is impossible to discribe how brilliant it is. Listen to his solo works "Pacific Ocean Blue" and the unreleased "Bamboo". 2 of the very best albums ever created.
A lot of credit can go to Daryl Dragon, aka The Captain, who co-wrote this. He was essential in helping Dennis translate his ideas into the finished masterpiece.
Not true his overall music was inferior to the others. Stop being so melodramatic. Most of the time he was a drunken idiot who met an early death. 🇬🇧🤝🇺🇲
If only he could have stayed with Barbara. If you look at these pictures, you see a man who is in love but also more at peace than at any other time in his life.
Wagnerian in scope, as profoundly moving as anything on Pet Sounds and as intimate as any love letter ever written. Sadly, probably the most underrated of all the pieces in the Beach Boys cannon. Personally, one of my favourites :-)
stuart2610 I could not agree with you more, stuart2610. Not only is "Cuddle Up" one of my favorites which I enjoy sharing with others who are NOT familiar with Beach Boys' "non-hit" songs, but, when compiling a list of underrated Beach Boys' songs, "Cuddle Up" is usually at the top of the list! If Brian Wilson had written "Cuddle Up" it would've gotten more attention and probably been considered a hidden masterpiece.
This is one of the songs I always come to when I've had a bad day and need to calm down. More of Dennys songs if they hadbeen included on post Holland albums, would have made them relevant again as a top musical force, in the 70s. On this song, for me the 'saviour' song of the Carl and the Passions LP, Dennis shows truly exceptional compositional and performance talent. And true, it reflects Dennys love of Wagners music, but it has that 'harmonic flow' so intrinsic to the great BBoys songs, a flow that is analagous to the ocean waves and surf (at least in my mind!). Denny was extremely talented music wise and of course, both Carl and Denny were always relegated in their ability compared to Brian, but in truth they somehow, esp Dennis, showed that 'Wilson' musical talent within them, certainly more than Brian in his 'isolation' period/s. RIP Denny.
