I'm 27 years old and have been online with broadband since I was 11... And I've never seen modern Mexico city. What incredible landscapes around the city. My idea of Mexico was sculpted by breaking bad and Ozark... Wow, I have learned something today.
I lived in Mexico for a year. It is a country of high contrast of glittering technology alongside bamboo huts.
It’s a very big a very diverse country geographically. Desert, jungles, mountains, urban sprawl.

Curious fact, the big earthquake you mentioned in 1985, happened on September 19th, the other quake you mentioned torre mayor survived on 2017 also happened on September 19th, and since then we have had an even bigger quake in 2022 also on September 19th.

@@larrote6467 because the 1985 is one of the country's greatest modern tragedies, the amount of death of destruction marked the capital and the rest of the country. Every year since it's remembered and a drill is performed as a reminder of the tragedy and to honor the life of the victims, and it just so happens that the 2017 and 2022 earthquakes occurred just a couple of hours after the drills were performed. So it's has become an unforgettable date because it continues to mark new generations. Also we Mexicans tend to be superstitious 😆

@@dtangerine96 - Also ominous that the epicenter bounces around the city from the west coast in 1985 to Puebla to its east in 2017 and back to the west coast again in 2022.
A video really centered in CDMX and Monterrey, because other cities in Mexico such as Guadalajara and Puebla for example deals with their construction projects too, not too mention that Acapulco is a city with a high amount of towers in a higher seismic activity area. Anyway it is impossible to cover a country in only 10 minutes.

Yeah, we had a drought this year, and we only could use water for 6 hours... from 4 am to 10-11 am.
Funny thing, I can't believe that I have never heard about Monterrey until today. I have always thought of Mexico City as the financial capital.
@@corvusglaive5769 Mexico City is the financial capital. Monterrey is the industrial capital, since almost all big industries are located there, it is also the second most populated city in the country, just after Mexico City and ahead of Guadalajara.

they're located in the north, in Monterrey, we've one specially beautiful as a regia (native person from Monterrey), La Huasteca mountain is my favorite!

Monterrey Citizen here, thank you so much for covering my city, and indeed I can confirm the fact that we're having lots of problems with the most recent water shortage, but that hasn't stopped us from working so hard to get these buildings done, so much that we're about to set yet another record by building the tallest building in latin america called Rise Tower, right next to TOP 1 (Torres Obispado) and I can't wait for you to cover it!
You should talk about the Rise Tower in Monterrey, Mexico too, the second future tallest Tower in the Americas

By the way in Mexico City there is a financial district called Santa Fe where most of the skyscrapers (+150 m) of the city are located. It even looks like a Korean city!

Flanking avenida Reforma is actually where most of the skyscrapers are, around 16 including under construction vs only 4 on Santa Fe. Santa Fe gets its dense look mostly from high rises below 140m.

Some of these skyscrapers are truly gorgeous. Kudos to the Mexican architects and construction teams! Monterrey looks stunning, too. I'm gonna need to make a trip to Mexico to see some of these in person!

In Sweden, where we actually have everything going for building high (No earthquakes, harsh winds etc), there's the issue of building costs. It's darn expensive to build high over here. Mostly because of all the regulations set by the "Boverket´s Building Regulations" (BBR) which dictates the minimum standards for indoor climate, sunlight, emergency exits aso. And don't get me wrong, it's a good thing that they do, we have a high standard of living, even in "cheaper" projects although it really sets developers back in the grand project ideas.
Do people want skyscrapers in Sweden? I’ve seen insane building projects going on over there that seem really cool but I know that many cities in Europe don’t really have a skyscraper-dominated skyline. Here in Mexico City a lot of people are seeking out high-rise apartments to live in so there’s a big demand
@@davidh9597 It's a skyscraper boom in Gothenburg, Sweden right now with Karlatornet as the tallest project, also the tallest building in the Nordics. Just check skyskrapercity if you want more info. The problem is our city have even deeper clay than Mexico City so they need to pillar the skyskrapers 60 meters down.
Maybe there might be another war in Europe so building skyscrapers would be a waste of precious resources.

I just don't understand why public transportation in Monterrey is so damn bad. It doesn't help that more than half of the car drivers don't have a license because enforcement for it is nonexistent.
@@JM-kv2kn it's because the government of Nuevo Leon hasn't focused their efforts on the development of alternative for massive transportation such as the Metrorrey system, that up until 2022 didn't get signs of new projects, now, while linea 4, 5 and 6 are in development, they won't be sufficient for our metropolitan area, we need to start developing metro lines that go outside to the outskirts of the metropolitan area, such as Cadereyta Jimenez, Pesqueria, Salinas Victoria, el Carmen, General Zuazua and Cienega de Flores, as well to develop a light train line that connects Tamaulipas and Coahuila thru Nuevo Leon, to incentivize the development and usage of trains to transport masses as well as commodities

It would benefit us tourists who drive south to Mexico to have at least decent roads to drive our cars with, and competent drivers who actually have a driver's license. Perhaps your idea would assist traffic but it wouldn't improve road conditions nor driver's road culture.
@@JM-kv2kn as a student of civil engineering, I can say to you that the quality of the roads, as well as the driver's culture would significantly improve if the access to more massive transportation methods will definitely make the roads with less traffic, and make the times for transportation shorter

The camera work could have been better. Mexico City and Monterrey skylines look great from the right angles. These shoots made it seem like there is one or two tall buildings in the whole city.
I’ve been following B1M since 2018. Really love the work. I’m glad Monterrey finally appeared (where I live), it is the 2nd largest and most wealthy city in 🇲🇽 , 5.5 million people and industrial capital of the region. Many companies are rushing here from 🇺🇸 and 🇨🇳 thanks to the near-shoring issue. So I’m glad you finally spoke about this, hope it gets more recognition in the future.
Btw, we are building a new tallest building here, 450 m tall. It’ll be completed in 2025.

Absolutely love your channel (been subscribed for a while and recommend your videos to most people when discussing TH-cam creators). Really solid content here, so it hurts to see clickbait titles and minute long lead ups to topic reveal. Hoping things find their way back to being straightforward and direct.
I grew up in chile which is the most earthquake prone place on earth and while true skyscrapers are relatively rare high-rises in the 20 floors vicinity are everywhere and becoming the most common type of development in recent years. I think the economic and cultural elements combined with a relative abundance of buildable land are the key factors in Mexico.
It think it is awesome that The B1M finally made a video about my country. Monterrey is an economic and industrial powerhouse with much more potential to be wealthier. I would not leave CDMX to move to Monterrey though because it has extreme weather and it is not nearly as walkable as my city. Very proud of our Monterrey nationals though!

You should make an independent video about the Skyscraper Boom here in Monterrey, with 1 Supertall (possibly two) in construction which is going to be the 2nd Tallest in the Americas and the Western Hemisphere, Rise Tower at 456 mts.

2:30 that tower along with the Jin Mao tower in Shanghai and the Taipei 101 are the most culturally influenced buildings in the world. Even US Bank tower in LA references ancient cultures of the Toltec.

🎉 I want Mexico to be the most wonderfully built country in American continent.
Brisbane, Australia (2032 Olympics) has similar soil issues with some buildings having 9+ basement levels to help reach bedrock. Brisbane also has a building height limit of 274m so basement parking levels help maximise floor space.
This is true because it's very difficult to build skyscrapers in Mexico 'cause a large part of the country is a seismic zone.
However, in Monterrey they have been built very successfully because the subsoil is strong other cities like Guadalajara and Querétaro will also have skyscrapers in the near future.

Mexico is kind of fascinating in that it has European style built cities that are walkable and businesses close by but American style car obsession making it the only way to get around
This is just completely untrue, public transport in Mexico is way better than the US; Mexico City has a world class transit system and Guadalajara's is great too and expanding. Monterrey isn't as good due to US influence in planning but still much better than similarly sized cities in the US

Public transportation in Mexico is ages compared to Europe but its better than in the US.
Facts. These other guys are delusional. Only Mexico City has a respectable transport network. Guadalajara, Monterey has trains as well but it’s no where near adequate for a city that size. Very informational and factual video we in Monterrey faced 4 hard months of droughts, yet we all united and began to use less water in turn our reservoirs began to fill again we have overcame the water crisis and we are ready to advance again!

1:20 - This was also the biggest reason why Japan's cities were mostly low-rise until skyscrapers started to be built in the mid-70s to early 80s, started with the Kasumigaseki Building in Tokyo.
In 10 years mexicos main cities will have very impressive skylines
I remember 11 years ago Mexico didn’t have much of a skyline. Now it’s a hub of skyscrapers. More than LA (my home)
There are one very dense area in México of buildings, is Interlomas, near to Mexico city and Santa Fe with another skyscraper cluster packed with nice builds

I hope you can mention or make a video in the next years about the Rise Tower in Monterrey, that will become the tallest building in Latin America with 456 meters / 1496.06 feet. Will be finished before the 2026 North America Mundial soccer.
Unfortunately 18.4% of that 456 metres will be vanity height.
Only the 2026 world cup would deserve a standalone video.

@@JonMartinYXD That's about the same as Mexico's very first skyscraper, Torre Latinoamericana, and lower than the Chrysler building, not very egregious as far as vanity height goes, a far cry from the 30%-40% of the buildings that caused that term to be created.

You should make a video about the Highrise in Rotterdam, The Netherlands! There we construct also a lot of slyscrapers, one of them in an post office out of the 1800’s. Those scyscrapers have piles up to 72 meter long because of our bad soil!

Perhaps you can cover the newly constructed Mitikah Tower in Coyoacan, Mexico City.
It would’ve been helpful if some comparisons were given to provide some perspective on these challenges.
For example: Challenge #1 Earthquakes, are they similar or worse than California or Japan?
Earthquakes in Mexico City are far stronger than California’s. In fact when was the last time california had a major earthquake? Mexico City is constantly getting hit by earthquakes surpassing a magnitude 6. Also Torre Mayor is consider that strongest building in the world. I don’t know why he didn’t mention that.
Worse, specially in Mexico city, not only because the earthquake itself, but the real challenge is the soil, which amplifies the waves as it passes through the city
