      @@SMASHFISHING larger lobsters actually aren't breeders (I dated a lobster fisherman for two years and live in Massachusetts). The smaller females are the ones that actually produce the most eggs. The bigger the lobster female is, the older she is, and the less eggs that she produces. I cringe when I see all of the pound and a half lobsters sold in grocery stores, because those are actually the size that keeps the populations up.

    I'm a meat eater and I love my meat but I think people are removed from the reality of where their food comes from and have no respect for it thus creating gluttony. People wouldn't eat as much I don't think if they visited slaughter houses or had to go catch and kill their own. - Good to see you’re learning your seaweed species. Dan said you were helping him out. 👍🏻 Just worth mentioning to any viewers who don’t already know, but as far as foraging goes you should avoid eating anything that’s come out from near an outfall pipes or commercial harbours. Bacteria from dead and rotting marine debris from the commercial boats, chemicals and contaminants from the vessels and anti fouling etc. Those scallops must have been discarded off the back of a fishing boat ey? Good on you for returning the big female. 👍🏻🦞

    Why is it ok to eat the lobster you found in the rubbish but not the oysters?

    • @SMASHFISHING
      @SMASHFISHING  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      FullMonterey oysters filter the water and lobsters eat the fish an things on the bottom but i cooked the hell out of this one because you must be super carful taking anything out of the harbour, thanks for watching ✌️

    These foraging vids are feckin' epic!
    Just one question though,
    When you purge cockles etc, do you use fresh water eg: tap water or salt/sea water?

    • @FixDylann
      @FixDylann 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't think it matters but most use salt water

    • @SMASHFISHING
      @SMASHFISHING  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Da-zee 1984 either dude Iv found fresh water seems to get more grit out but salt works great to 👍

      @@SMASHFISHING used fresh water when i was purging mussels foraged from strangford lough. Feckers near smashed my teeth as there was tiny pearls in them! 🤣🤣 tasted good though. 😁😁

    The lobster trying to swim away while your holding it is so funny to me, he was using his instinct to flap his tail to swim backwards and away
