Hi! I know this was a few years back but I’ve come across this when I searched for soft spine as I’m planning on doing one soon. This was really helpful! Thank you! ☺️
Thank you for sharing another cover video Carol. Very interesting the construction process and it will be a superb journal. Your nails matched the cover beautifully! Thank you again.
I like your way of doing the binding and hope that you will show us some of the signatures being sewh in... I am eager to see how it turns out.. You are really rocking these doggy journals, love them all... Cheers for Sharing...
Hi - I sewed the signatures in today, but I didnt video it as I faff with it (and I had to redo one, as I sewed it in upside down). But I will do a flip through over the weekend, so you can see how it turned out x
I love this technique! I also appreciate that you want to be precise on the measurements and placements of the fabrics and papers. Thank you for a great demonstration of this soft spine!
I'm quickly becoming a fan of soft spine journals. I've made two and love the feel of them. Thanks for sharing your techniquel. I'm thourally enjoying your process videos. x
Hi ! I found you by searching for soft spine journals, I love your channel and your work , than you so much for this tutorial, new subbie from Liverpool 😍😍😍😍
This tutorial is very helpful. I have been wondering how to do this for awhile. You’ve given me the info and the confidence to try it. Thank you so much! I really admire your work.😍
I'm a new subscriber from Canada & absolutely love your all your dog journals. I like your straight-forward explanation of how to do the soft spine technique...thanks for sharing : )

Hi, I am sure your granddaughter would love a journal that you made. I havent done a video of the actual signatures, I have just started making videos. I have a few showing how some pockets are made xx
I really love the way you constructed this journal! I've been trying to come up with a way to make a journal with a lot of pages in it that will still open flat and this looks like the way to go. Could you please tell me what type of sewing machine you use? I don't know how to use one but I've been meaning to get one. So many journaling projects I would like to use one for. I've been afraid I'd break one if the paper was too thick and I got a model that couldn't handle that. So glad I found your channel tonight. Thanks so much and cheers!
i, thank you for joining me - my machine is a husquvana. I put it onto a heavy fabric setting and a thicker needle if I am sewing through a cover like this - I test it out with scraps in the layers I want before I start. not sure this helps - you dont have to sew though, just glue well xx
@carollaws838 Thanks so much for your reply! Yes that does help:) I didn't realize there was a thicker fabric setting on machines. Also a good idea on the thicker needle. I've been relying totally on glue and anything I can (no so neatly) hand sew. Smart to test scraps first as well so your project doesn't get botched!
Thank you Carol for this Awesome tutorial on the Soft Spine. What size needle did you use in your sewing machine? I’m wondering since you had so many layers to sew through. Love the Cover & especially Amy’s kit! Big Hugs & Blessings!!💙💙🥰🥰🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️
Hi Nora, the needle I have is size 80, if that helps. I used a bigger zigzag, it went through fine. If you were concerned for your machine, you could use off cuts to layer a piece to try, I think I did that the first time. hope that helps x
That's going to be such a beautiful journal! I love dogs and pictures of them! Besides the kit, did you get photos from anywhere else? Thank you for showing this to us. 😊❤️
Hi, so glad you like it so far. I found some images on the graphics fairy website, and I also use dog theme kits from Mrs Cogs Crafts on etsy, she has lots of images in her kits, and not expensive. Hope that helps x
Hi I don’t know if you read these messages but I have a question How do you sew through the box or card stock ? Do you use a different needle or do you use the regular needle on the sewing machine? Thanks Sandra
Hi Sandra, my needle is an 80, which I think is a usual size - I have also used a 'jeans' needle. I tried a piece of card and fabric spine through the machine as a test piece to check first, and it worked fine. if you do this, think about making a test piece as your putting the cover ane spine together. I also use a larger stitch than I normally would. Hope that helps.
@@carollaws838 Thank you 😊 Yes that is very helpful I’m new to this craft and I have never used a sewing machine until I started making junk journals so I need appreciate all the information and tips Tutorial videos
@@carollaws838 hi thank you. I do have one more question. It’s probably a silly question but I can’t figure it out . The ruler that you use , is that better than a 12 inch straight ruler? Does it work better for anything?
@@sandramontague4053 Hi, its a quilting ruler, that measures 8.5" x 12.5" and I use it to measure my papers, as I dont get on with a paper cutter. I find using this more accurate. I guess its what you get used to using - and I am happy to answer your questions xx
