It's been almost a year since you posted this, but it's still useful. I, too, had an initial problem with the Raspberry Pi Imager, but after I downloaded the image and did it the way you mentioned, it all worked fine. In hindsight, I might have tried initializing the sdcard in the imager app, but that's for another day. I might test it with a spare card.

so what sort of cables would i need to purchase for the initial homebridge to raspberry Pi on my macbook pro. i have just set up the 'back office' and realised when i close the macbook the buttons in my homekit stop working. so im looking at a raspberry thing. just wondering how i wouldl connect it to my monitor

Hi, pretty sure you can do this with a call service node in node red. Are you sure your power is sufficient to run your pi?

I HIGHLY recommend using a Pi4 for a Homebridge install. I tried it on a 1 version and it was at 100% cpu the entire time. The 4 was much better and provided quick response times for HomePod commands.
