    I think what makes this bike so great is the fact your attention is actually enjoying the ride. Instead of always trying to figure out the bikes mechanics. Now that's nice

      After riding any bike after a short while a skilled rider learns how to get the best out of the powertrain, It becomes automatic in the same way as driving a stick shift car or motorcycle.

  • @karlInSanDiego
    @karlInSanDiego 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    This test needed a hillclimb. How does the automatic transmission tackle a sudden hill/incline? Does it quickly step down in "gear" ratio fast enough to no disturb the rider's pace?

    • @anemoneyas
      @anemoneyas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that's a critical missing piece of information. My understanding is it's difficult and/or bad for the enviolo transmissions to shift while under a large amount of torque. The pedal assist motor probably automatically backs off while shifting, but is that enough on a steep hill climb?

    • @Hoggdoc1946
      @Hoggdoc1946 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anemoneyas How would the motor know to back off I don't think there are any sensors to pass that info to the controller. I have always wondered how they claim this to be automatic, maybe sensing cadance and adjusting the hub to keep it constant?

    Is it speed limited to 20mph only in electric-assist mode or as a permanent restriction, potentially nerfing a higher-speed freewheel downhill?
    Range per charge = ? Estimated battery cost and replacement frequency = ?

  • @anemoneyas
    @anemoneyas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Lotta missing information in this review. How far can it go on a single charge? How's it perform on hills? What's the gearing range? All of these are concerns with any bike, but especially ones that use enviolo transmissions.

    • @rantanplan7474
      @rantanplan7474 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      how far? depends on your weight and inclines. Site says 60 Miles on Pedal-Assist, 20-25 Miles on Electric-Only I think the gear range is about 310% or 380%, not specified as far as I can see on their website, but both shoulf be plenty for city commuting and light trail riding. you also have a throttle to start you going on a big incline if you're in trouble, so I wouldn't be worried. This looks like a very thoughtfuly designed and sturdy bike. A lot of interesting choice that make a lot of sense for heavy riders.

    • @rantanplan7474
      @rantanplan7474 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the wide rims, huge tires, study frame, and the internally gears hub, motor and battery all contribute to the weight.

    That whole bit about the "too much torque" and "transmission sticking" is complete nonsense. The construction of this CVT makes it virtually impossible to "stick" as you 've described it. Having ridden a number of Enviolo equipped bikes I can safely say you're just BSing when you talk about "sticking" CVT transmissions.
    Honestly I was hoping you would do more of a comparison with the $8000 electric bike, which also features a Gates belt (and maybe an Enviolo? maybe not). Or perhaps describe the "torque sensor" which is supposedly a unique feature of this Evelo bike (compared to their other models).

    • @Hoggdoc1946
      @Hoggdoc1946 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These CTV hubs don't work like tradition CVT drives do. Most use some sort of a setup of balls not belta like most other CVT designs.

    He also forgets talk about how much they are.
    Instead, he compares the product with other product prices.

      all the batteries are the same 48V 14Ah on pretty much all the bikes now. Nothing to talk about here. Battery autonomy isnt that great all accross ebikes on the market so if you need to tackle 200kms at 20mph everyday on a single charge forget it no ebike on the market will allow that you'll need to make your own DIY bike.

    • @joebarnhart4460
      @joebarnhart4460 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The motor, CVT hub and battery make up a large proportion of the weight. Then the fat tires, shocks, and heavier frame make up the rest. I have the Galaxy TT from the same company and its a couple pounds lighter, but it's still easy to handle. On flatter terrain I ride it with zero assist and it pedals just great.

      This bike is $3999. Not 8k. He was saying it’s half the price of other top end bikes. And by the way 8k is pretty cheap for a good bike. Even good non electric bikes are between $5,000 and $ $13,000. And they depreciate far less than a car. I’ve sold my used bikes for 80% of what I paid for them years later. So our 4 bikes combined have deprecated less than just 1 of our cars.

      @@TimC883 reality check. On planet Earth $13,000 for a bicycle is ludicrously expensive, and $5000 is telling of the problem of income and wealth disparity in our country. But sure, in your bubble, that's what you have to pay for a "good" non-electric bike. Do you lock a $13,000 bike up in a public place, because if you can't lock a "good" bike up without fear of losing what equates to half a year's salary for many people, can it really be considered a "good" bike? $4k for this bike, given its drivetrain is to be expected. And maybe that's why we don't see it as commonplace yet. That's a lot of scrilla for a not so sexy stepthrough that's the equivalent of a Civic with a CVT.

      karlInSanDiego Is your reality check people have hobbies you know in the camera world the normal Camera body is $3500-$5000 And hundreds and hundreds of thousands of those people pay $1000-$5000 per lens for their hobby. Other people buy RVs 50,000 to 1/ quarter of 1 million other people buy boats other people by simple campers which also cost several thousand dollars and nobody thinks twice about it so spending $3000-$10,000 on a bike for a hobby is actually quite cheap for a hobby. And I have worked in 17 different states even people making $35,000 each so $70,000 a couple are spending that kind of money on their hobbies whether that’s right or not it’s up to you. Most people also have $1000 cell phones and laptops cost even more it all depends on where you want to spend your money. When I made $25,000 a year it was not uncommon for people to spend several thousand dollars per year on a hobby.

      @@TimC883 Tim I think it's an odd argument that you make. Many people were to believe that this was $8,000 as they scan for price and don't read the surrounding words and don't watch the video but want to chime in. I watched it despite the price or maybe because the price and learned what the actual price was and it's not very much if not a hobby. We appreciate the hobbyists to some extent because it is a reality that some companies that make electric bikes are not conflicted neither by analog bikes nor by the car industry but whether that's the case here or with any bike that uses a a Bosch motor or any bike that uses an electric motor instead of something more appropriate for its motor there are conflicts go very deep. When you look at what has been done to Electrify cars and you compare it with what has been done to modernize bicycles you know whose side the industry is on and it's on spending less and charging more. Some people are saying these bicycles have as high a profit margin as cars. Some people say the opposite the cars are like television sets and it's hard to make money. The cars are razor blades not. I just watched the video of a guy that started with a radrover and it spent an additional thousand dollars including a recent 50% leap in the amount of he had spent on tires literally triple digits per tire for 120 thread per inch an additional triple digits for a ring of foam instead of just air to go inside the balloons the balloons don't have to be filled with foam because he puts 13 pounds of air in them to flesh them out and says he doesn't know whether it's the Korean foam or the specialized skin but what I know is that 13 pounds of air enables the thin skin to need replacement instead of being like a snake skin which the Korean Tire not insert was all about being able to continuously shed down to the rims but they're not willing to make 4 inch wide ones that are tall enough or obviously the entire wheel with Tire maybe even Hub motor for conversion purposes. using a transmission for a 70 lb vehicle is of course mechanical technology non electrical at its essence but using a belt instead of a shaft using the battery for more than the computer and not having air conditioning that is hot feet even hotter saddle these are why people buy cars even though most don't have called seats at best they have ventilated not chilled or better made out of thick but infrared transparent material like low density polyethylene so that the body heat flows through it without any condensation forming on it because it's not the temperature of your underwear that matter it's the temperature of your blood and for $4,000 you should be able to keep your blood cool that is if you don't buy a bunch of insane Electronics to spin the wheel instead just use some sort of cleaning liquid like atmospheric pressure nitrogen to do both. I don't mean the gas form of course that is far too heavy would not want to wish that on any bicycle I mean a few ounces of the light liquid you can carry it in a ziplock bag with a larger Ziploc bag providing a warm air barrier but none of the infrared that passes through that plastic is going to bounce out despite the outer layer of ldpe being body or atmospheric temperature and repelling humidity IE not allowing the water vapor to boil the liquid nitrogen losing weight itself. Ziploc bag material does that can be far colder and dry then the power that be want us to know because let's be very very very clear about this what Berkeley says matters in Singapore and is correct but they are not in power. your wife is not your plaything and e-bikes are not toys. adults stopped having Hobbies before the German Holocaust there is just too much good satisfying work to do besides building death Chambers out of The Valleys on our planet and even the mountains.
