  • Garden Home Television Host P. Allen Smith takes you on a summer garden tour of his downtown Garden Home in the historic Quapaw District of Little Rock, AR. In this tour Allen focuses on the north entry to the garden, the rondel garden, the shade garden and shows us how to cut hydrangeas for drying.
    Topics Include:
    Summer Perennials
    Heat Tolerant Annuals
    Shade Plants
    Cutting Hydrangeas for Drying
    Agastache 'Blue Fortune' (Hyssop)
Magnolia x soulangiana 'Japanese Magnolia' (Saucer Magnolia)
    Salvia 'Mystic Spires Blue' (Sage)
    SuperCal® Petunias
    Pennisetum setaceum 'Fireworks' (Fountain Grass)
    Cuphea ignea (Firecracker Plant)
    Asplenium nidus 'Bird's Nest Fern'
    Buxus microphylla (Japanese Boxwood)
    Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle'
    Buxus 'Green Velvet'
    Muehlenbeckia axillaris (Wire Vine)
    Saxifraga stolonifera (Strawberry Begonia)
    Camellia sasanqua 'Maidens Blush'
"Too often gardeners start developing their landscapes by adding dabs of flowers here and there. This is a bit like picking out decorative accessories before the house is constructed. It is important to define the spaces within the garden and determine their use before decorating an outdoor setting with colorful flowers." ~ P. Allen Smith

    Great tour💚💚Thank you💚💚
What I have found to deter rabbits and deer from my hosta and other plants that look “ yummy” to them....is fish fertilizer or fish emulsion. I have a garden sprayer that I use ( I do not use insecticides) that I put 1 part fish fertilizer to 3 parts water. I spray the leaves and flowers and keep the area fishy smelling. I have to admit the area may not smell pretty, but there is no munching😊

I love Golden Jubilee! It gives beautiful lime color and pops out super early here in PA. It gets big and wide! They reseed, but they are easy to pull or plant somewhere else.

I'm in zone 9 and planted cuphea last June. It never stopped blooming. I cut it back in January and again a few weeks ago and all it has done is grow and flower. It is always covered with hummingbirds and I pray it will continue to come back every year.

Just saw this & if there is one thing I have learned from you over the years is the importance of planting the right plant in the right space as it takes YEARS for them to mature & people do not realize they may not see it come to fruition! And to seek a professional designer is worth the investment 10x over!!!!

Really enjoyed this! Wish you would visit for some of us, a garden in heavy deer country. I do pretty well with agastache, catmint, purple cones, sedums, spirea and creeping phlox, but I would enjoy seeing a tour of someone else’s deer garden. (Fenceless). When I look online all I get is someone showing one plant from a nursery.

Great show! I‘ve been watching many episodes this summer that brings me motivation to work in my yard. I am currious about how the walking path built with bricks or stone slates. Is there any show talking about it?

Beautiful walk thru 🌿 thank you!
Assuming you are in zone 7? When do you trim your Boxwoods ? You had said you do it twice , late August.
Also , I noticed you have perennials growing in the terra cotta pots . Do you recommend to bring them in for winter ?
If not , I assume that depends on what kind of thickness the pot is 🌿

I'm in love with the way you design your gardens I'd love to copy them but I live in zone 2😔 I'm still just trying to figure out what works in such a cold❄☃️🌨 part of the world and what doesn't. My hydrangea I planted last year made it through and are looking gorgeous.
