In the garden you can use the various shades of purple to add dimension to a flower border or container combination. Pale purples reflect light and will jump forward while darks absorb light and recede. If you have a flat composition adding lilac or perhaps a deep violet will create a feeling of undulation." ~ P. Purple is our best selling color for many years now here at our garden center in Fallbrook. I always feel so blessed that we have such mild winters, a
9 or 10 month bloom season.

Gardening since I was a small child with my grandmother. Relatives passed away: grandparents and great aunts and uncles. Father and my mother recently. I've really got into gardening as a healing way to go through grief. Gardening is so healing!

This video is exactly what I was looking for! My husband passed from Pancreatic Cancer in January, 2020. I’m trying to build a flower bed with purple plants in honor of him as purple is the color of the Pancreatic Cancer ribbon. Wish me luck!

If you are in a climate where it will prosper, lavender is a fragrant choice. It does not want a lot of water, comes in many varieties, and will perfume the air.

My absolute favorite color!! Every year I mix lavenders, creamy whites and chartreuse green wherever I plant...the pots, the flower beds, etc. I use a lot of golden globe arborvitae as backdrops and borders, fill in with several varieties of white hydrangeas and then any beautiful purple perennial and annual I can find, and Allen, my purple vitex Shoal Creek plants are blooming!! Whohoooo! I put them in pots on the patio for summer and am starting to get butterflies! I filled in around the base of them with periwinkle petunias and purple salvia 🤓☺️and they are just gorgeous!! Scabiosa skin disease😂😂. That’s a good one! My Russian sage is growing like crazy and it is so easy to root new plants! I can’t wait to watch all these grow and bloom over the summer. Oh and yes, the catmint! I love, love the Walker’s Low and it is easy to propagate too! I put the catmint and Russian sage around the borders of my veggie gardens and....can you tell I’m excited about purple?!? 😉😉
Oh no! Just when you get it all looking spectacular, the first Japanese Beetle comes to scope it out! Aaaaaagggghh!

My favorite purple/blue flower for pollinators is Gregg's Mistflower. It's the top attractor of butterflies in my garden.

Wow!!, I must put a few Velvet Elvis's, Pin Cushions, and Artemisia... thanks for sharing, I just got inspired.. I've put a lot of emphasis on whites, pinks and blue perinials, but my house color is periwinkle..(I shocked my neighbors)... purples are my new theme for the season..
Allen - thank you. It really helps me when you sit down with so many examples of plants. I can jot down the names and look them up later. I love your walks through gardens too but this is easier when you just have them all right there! I think my new favorite is Russian Sage!

The Russian sage also has a nice aroma. Mexican sage blooms really nice after the second year, no fragrance. The purplish salvia seem to always get infested with bugs for me...nice video and informative

Couldn’t agree more about the salvias - May Night & Black & Blue With day lillies & lady’s mantle, rose campion & perennial geraniums- is one of the prettiest beds I have.
In Australia and almost tropical and have had success with Indigo spires Salvia. Love them . Have lost a lot probably due to humidity. Love your site by the way

Ive always been drawn to purple flowers. Im trying to introduce other colors, but my gardens are predominantly purple. Im only into our second year at our home and have been a crazy plant lady year round! Im really getting interested in propagating and wonder if you could do a video in more depth. Or feature a colder zone garden plan. And im definitely ordering those lilies!!! Thank you so much allen! Ive been a fan for years but am absolutley loving this channel!!

Thanks for a great informative program. I wanted to say that I grow many types of salvias. I am in zone 8B so we have HOT summers, the salvia is one of the few plants that continues to bloom until the fall frost. Of all of the types of salvia that I have the Henry Duelburg is by far the best bloomer even better than the Blue Black salvia. Thanks again for such an informative program.

I just added salvia nemorosa in my garden. I am searching for more to add along with my salvia for more interesting groupings of plants. I am glad for this episode. Isn't it because purple is a royal color? Making every garden interesting. Regards from Texas
Luv purple 💜and always👍have! I really don't have many purple plants though. I've had a purple oxalis forever and I love it! Another purple plant that I'm trying to contain is Mexican Petunia! Such a bright beautiful purple color. I recently put in castor bean, the one with large purple leaves! I've got elderberry which has purple berries in the fall and American beauty berry which also has purple berries in the fall. I used to have agapanthus but died off due to lack of sun. And another plant I have is purple 4 o'clock! I luv them all! 💜🌄🍇☂️
Salvias help the Pollinators and Butterflies love. It.
I love salvias. They get huge and I cut them down and they come back and are always loaded with flowers! They don’t like too much water as they will flop. I loved the salvia long plant the best. It stayed green almost year round for me in zone 8.
The salvias are nice with the "Stella d oro" day lillies
