Best review ever! Still chuckling! My wife surprised me with my wing on my 60th Birthday. Since last June I’ve logged over 8000 miles with not regrets, it’s not perfect, but than what is. At my age I’m blessed just to still be riding.

We really looked at the new Harley, I must admit at first the idea of a Goldwing didn't set well with me. One test ride and we knew it was the bike for us. We also decided we could get far more for our money in purchasing a previous Generation GL 1800. We found one with only 22K that was in like new condition. Had all the upper end options already on it. 147 litters of storage. Smooth, powerful, great handling, and so comfortable. We really feel for us the little older roomer Goldwing was the best choice in a long distance touring bike. The Goldwings really do seemed to be in a class all their own. I am sure you will love your new 2018 wing. Congratulations.

Another Goldwing brother. Welcome! I have a far cry from a 2018. I have a 1998 with 30,000 miles on it that I will be riding for a while. I cannot imagine riding anything but a Goldwing. Thank you so much for your videos. We had a warm day in Minnesota in March for a little window of riding. The first thought I had when I got on the bike was "I am the prey." Thank you again. God bless, Peter

Tiger Woods rented a goldwing after his last tournament in Ireland to travel the beautiful country side. He'd been riding a while and decided to grab some gas at an old country store. The old man came out to pump the fuel and, as Tiger was hopping off the wing, he noticed a golf tee fall out his pocket to the floor.
"Aye! And what might dat be?"
Tiger, seeing what the old man was pointing to, said "that's a tee!" The lost look forced him to continue "it's what I rest my balls on when I'm driving"
The old man looked at the goldwing in amazement. "Honda! Day tink of evrytin!"

I went to a motorcycle show just outside Toronto this past January. Left there with the deal I had researched for 6 months. A Pearl Stallion Brown 2018 Goldwing bagger base version. 6 Speed manual. Congratulations on your new ride. I really enjoy your weekly topics. I come from a defensive driving background and a lot of what you say has been in my blood for over 37 years now. Thanks!

So envious right now. About 5 months ago, I decided my little Versys needed a big brother and eventually decided on the NC750X. I also opted for the DCT and I'm so glad I did. Living in metro Atlanta, I do alot of stop and go riding and the DCT saved my aviation damaged wrists. I'm fairly convinced the Goldwing is my next bike, but I don't feel my skills and confidence are there yet. One day though...

Beautiful bike! I’m getting old as well and my wife for years said if I ever get a Gold Wing, she’s getting a new husband (she loved the Busa I had set up for sport touring). I went to the dealer a few months ago and sat on this new one...was blown away at how “small” it felt! They did an amazing job in the design. I was afraid to ride it as I knew I’d end up riding it home. Single life don’t sound too bad!

Fantastic! Love your channel so much! I've just turned 50 and DREAM of the 2018 Goldwing!! I've also watched all of the videos I can on it. Currently I ride the Honda NC700 X DCT, which I love to bits.
PLEASE do more videos on the Goldwing.
One thing I'd like to know from other DCT riders is how to stop the DCT downshifting in a curve.. And tips would be great!
    Again, great channel, great video!

    • @MCrider
      @MCrider  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thanks Michael, I manually downshift prior to the corner. That way the bike is settled and does not shift mid-corner. It has worked well for me so far.

I ride an 86 Suzuki Cavalcade LXE. It was way ahead of its time. Air ride, cruise, air bladders in the seats, that are adjustable from the onboard air pump. Self canceling turn signals, stereo with intercom, lamp outage module. I’ve added almost all the accessories they offered, but cb. Handles excellent and rolls through the turns.

LOL. Thanks for the humor. I have also entered my GW years. It was a difficult move from the BMW GSA to the wing. But I realized my future ride plans fel right into why the wing is built for. I chose to go used even though the 2018s were hitting the sales floor. Mine is a 2012 so it still has the extra baggage capacity. I love the bike! Going to do the 4 corners ride in July, about 9000 miles. I’m looking forward to hear your reports on the new wing.

The only complaint I have with the Goldwing is that my knees are at a 90-degree angle and my shins go straight down. This causes my knees to ache after a long day on the bike. I rented one about 2 years ago and found this out. I have been a vtwin rider for well over 10 years and enjoy the fact that I can stretch my legs out in front. Thats why I ended up with a Victory Vision instead of the Wing. The issue with attempting to do that on the Goldwing is that my feet are extremely far apart (spread out) and that also is uncomfortable. Dont get me wrong, the wing rode like a dream and handles amazingly well. I dont know how tall you are but hopefully, you dont run into the issue with knee ache as I described. Nice looking bike.

  • @ramblinwithwreck

Turning 70 this year and the highly touted feet forward like-sitting-in-a-recliner riding position (all American made V twins) doesn't work for me anymore with all the metal in my lower back. I love Harleys and Indians but none are comfortable. After about 15 minutes I'm ready to get off the bike. I'm down to a decision between a BMW K1600 GTL or a GW both of which put my feet under me in a much more comfortable position. Going to take a test ride tomorrow on a Wing DCT. This is a very timely video. Thanks Kevin.

Due to a disease, I was forced to say byebye to my Yamaha FJR1300 as I didn't have the strength anymore to handle the weight and shift it manually. I bought a new Honda with a DCT, not a Goldwing - too heavy - but a NC750X. The disease was unfortunately but man, how happy I became from the first ride with such a perfect (semi-)automatic transmission. Smooth gear changes and never worrying anymore whether to shift or not to shift while cornering, as the rear wheel has constant traction and torque. The DCT makes the overall experience better. My health is much better now and I could ride a manual bike again without any issues, but that DCT is a keeper, hands down on that!
Maybe I should test ride the new Goldwing this spring (it looks very nice in that black 'n white suit), just to feel the feeling of gliding down the road like a flying carpet from a fairy tale...

My first GW was a 1976 or 75 GL1000. Killer bike. Scary fast with a Vetter fairing, bags and Trunk. Totaled it when I hit a radiator fluid patch behind a lady in. Continental. I got nine tickets on that bike in 18 months. I combined a lack of self restraint, zillions of miles and I simply could t tell how fast it was going after I’d been riding a Z1 for four years. I put 70k miles on that bike in 18 months in the US, Mexico and Canada. It carried me to my only Calgary Stampede.
My current GL1800 is a 2015 Anniversary that may well be my last bike. I’ve had a couple of ST1300s since then, three kids, a 750 virago, an R90/6 and a K75 art that was just what a bike should be except being a lot too top heavy

You must be referring to the previous generation Gold Wings when you say there are stages in life you go through related to age. This new Gold Wing Tour and Gold Wing is comfortable but no Road Sofa anymore. It was designed to be more athletic in performance and styling in hopes to grab a more athletic crowd, a younger crowd, while hoping to hold onto those previous generation Gold Wing buyers inspiring them with the new look. I have no doubt that this is the smoothest, most feature laden motorcycle on the market. I got a 2018 Road Glide Ultra because I wanted another Harley. But I looked at these. I know this is a very different animal than the Harley. More tech and smoothness. I am very happy with mine, yet this one gives me some pause.

I've been looking hard at the new Goldwing. I had the opportunity to test drive one with my wife, and we both loved it. One instructional video idea you could do with your new bike is tips and tricks associated with upgrading to a larger motorcycle. I currently have a Honda Shadow (750cc). When I hopped onto the Goldwing for the first time, it felt enormous and I found myself really babying it through curves until I got a bit more used to it (fortunately, I didn't have a train of cars behind me, or they would have likely starting honking at my pathetically slow speed through those curves). Several people I've talked to about moving to a bigger bike have simply said, "You'll get used to it". I'm sure that's true, but I have really enjoyed your videos and am sure that you can give some good advice about making that transition. Keep up the good work! (Looks like you got the same bike as CruiseMan; I'm sure you've found him on TH-cam in your searches, but if not, he's got a lot of instructional videos on basic bike maintenance for a Goldwing).

Never thought I'd see the day! Been riding Goldwings for a number of years now and had always hoped you'd lean towards a Goldwing someday! The 2018/19 DCT isn't for me but someday I hope to find a gently used 2017 or 2016 to carry me for the rest of my miles on a Goldwing! Enjoy and am looking forward to your takes on your new Goldwing!

    Good day Kevin,
Big Kudos to all the great safety tips and videos that you have shared to help new/old riders better minimize their risks while riding.
I have owned 6 Goldwings over the past 3 decades. My last one is a 2012 GL1800.
I wanted to ask you a question about the way your Goldwing reacts to steering inputs.
Note that I am a MSF RC just like you. So, on my GL 1800 when doing swerves or doing u-turns or whatever I feel much more connected to the steering.
Let me explain when I quickly press on the left hand grip, my bike leans left "Like Now, Immediately" and allows me to execute a very fast swerve.
It seems to me on the 2018 Goldwings that I have tested, there is a delay in the steering.
When I press left to go left on the 2018 Goldwing, the bike without a doubt does not turn like now. There seems to be a delay of a quarter to a half second between the input and the bike actually doing something. In other words the bike is slow to react to the inputs from the hand grip. Please try this on your own motorcycle since you have a new Goldwing Tour. Please let me know what you find. ideally it would have been best if you had a prior to 2018 Goldwing to test it first doing a swerve and then try it on the new Goldwing. After you test please let me know what you think. Do you feel as I do about the steering?
    Thanks Mike

I have not noticed this and have practiced swerves on the GW. I don't have another GW to test with but I do have other bikes and there seems no difference in handling other than what you might expect from one brand to the next.

I consider myself a beginner. Been riding for about 2-3 years, i'm 41..... I would kill for a new Goldwing! It's always been my dream bike.

Ok Kevin very funny bro. I have a 1999 GL1500 and it is my dream bike. I actually got it from south Texas 3 years ago and had it shipped to southern Maryland. The only problem I have is the seat height. I'm 5'8" and can't get my feet flat on the ground, so when I stop I always have the fear of dropping it. Anyway i have learned well from your video's making sure the front is always straight when stopping. I'm getting ready to put the battery back in and ride now that the weather has warmed up. It looks like they lowered the seat height on the 1800 because you look to not have a problem with the seat height? Thank for all you do you are making a difference. 😊

I used to have a 1999 Valkyrie, same engine as you. One of the main reasons why I went with this bike...love the engine.

IT does appear you have purchased the coffee cup delete model. The pee brake package has 7 coffee cup holders. The silver thread model you have there is fine looking. I am thinking that vibrating pink gadget could eliminate the need for a passenger. I will see if there is a Road Glide model. Great bike, great video!

Bought an 08 with 865 miles on it, level 3 I think they called it everything but the airbag in 2011, flew from Detroit to NYC to get in in May-and rode home SE MI. Came with Corbin seat, it killed my taint, bought pillows at Walmart on the way. Good thing I had the seller ship the OEM seat to me, much better. Not good enough, had oem seat rebuilt bu guy in TX, I’m sure you’ve see his name on GW forums. Still no good, bought $1100 aftermarket seat! Worse than oem rebuilt seat. Then developed a hip issue, couldn’t ride for 15 minutes without developing pain. I attributed this to the feet under sitting position. May 2014 test ride a new “Rushmore” H-D Ultra Limited, fell in love, feet out in front of me no pain. 28K later I still love this bike.
I do however miss the smooth quiet power of the Wing. 25mph in 5th is awesome. And it was quick, not a crotch rocket but @900lbs it moved along nicely.
I’ve done a little work on the Ultra and it runs pretty darn good. I wanted a point with power but with dependability and I believe I’ve found it. Hope I didn’t jinx myself. LOL
    Congratulations and enjoy your WING!!!
PS. I have some 08 oem Wing parts available.

Well, you could say you easily get a little happy with Honda... Yes, a DCT with a finger operated paddle shifter on the bar would be great and I am looking forward to it with my bike manufacturer - or hoping for it to appear into their bikes.

Congratulations. If I was a solo rider, the WIng would be a real contender. As it is, I am staying with my LT for now with an eye on the K1600GA as the current best alternative. I enjoyed my WIng test ride last year, but it just has too many limitations for two-up riding compared to the BMWs.
Enjoy and keep an eye on Cruiseman’s channel for hints and tips for your new scooter.

Congrats on your new Wing! Believe it or not, a Gold Wing was my very first motorcycle, a 1980 GL1100 I bought in 1986 when I was 25 years old. Obviously that's relatively primitive compared to your's, but I still look back at it as an amazing machine. These days I'm pretty darn happy with my Vulcan Nomad, but I'll admit I still look longingly at the Gold Wings.

Great fun, Kevin! Now I'm really feeling short-changed...my GW hwy-sofa lacks the culinary pkg and the DCT auto trans! I presume you also have the airbag option(?). From one senior to another, looking forward to hearing about your cross country ride this year! I'm partial to Colorado Mtn. twisties.
