I rattle canned my hood with flat black paint (do this about every 5 years). I use mar-hyde one-step rust converter for the rest of the truck. Since the truck is faded black, the mar-hyde just blends in if done correctly. I have two super nice leather seats out of a mid-80s sports car in my 93 D350 - comfort is #1. I need to get the A/C working as we have already hit 100F. This past weekend my son helped to swap out a 1" spacer on the front coils for a 3/4" spacer. The 1" looked nicer, but it was almost impossible to get aligned. I like that old cab you have.
My 92 D350 had seats that look comfy and sporty. From the factory. But they were killing my back. The side bolsters were cutting into my side and I am not even fat. I swapped in a seat from an E body Cuda and problem solved. It was a direct bolt in. Well, the punishing suspension part of the problem was not solved but the seat part was.
Very ambitious project there Jamie, especially for a self-professed "non-fabricator". I'd have some concerns about cantilevered forces at play or some such, but most of the weight of the towed car will be up on the main deck typically, so there's not as much concern there. As it stands, you've improved that old girl by quite a bit regardless. Adventures await! - Ed on the Ridge
There's literally a thousand different ways you could've done this. But then again, the thousand ways would come from your audience. I have to point out that the truck is yours. Meaning, how you did it, is the right way. Coulda, shoulda, woulda, it comes down to how you wanted to build the extension. The choice of materials is yours. How I'd do it, vice your ideas, is why I'm not gonna say anything about that. It hold a car, that's all the you're after. Good job brother.
I think you should consider using expanded sheet metal for the front of the rear storage area. Regular sheet metal would just act as an air brake/parachute. Any reduction in drag should be helpful. 🤓
Love the truck it looks like something my uncle Joe had hidden behind an old double ender life boat (28' UPSIDE DOWN) in his back yard. Now I know what it was for I think!
Great job Jamie! Congrats on the feverish burst of energy and focus. This is how things get done. My opinion on the Sweptline cab swap - forget it. I'm old enough to clearly remember my Uncle's new '66 pickup. Doors never fit right, door handles stuck, glove box was a struggle to open and close, windows resisted opening and closing, whistled and rattled from day one, and within five or six years you could see the ground through the cab floor. Nostalgia has its place, in our thoughts.....
This cab whistles. It rattles. The doors don’t shut right. The glovebox doesn’t close right. The driver’s window doesn’t work right. Half of the electronics are dead. So really, it seems about right 😅
The best part is seeing you get off your butt and _do_ car things all the time. Its inspiring! Another weekend here with zilch done on the car (but yes we did do gardening and planters and other stuff). I need to work on the car! And the truck looks great! Long and well may it serve you.
I'm running 12x16.5 duplex rims on my D350 dually. Weight capacity is the same. Smoother ride as there is only two side-walls, and stays in balance better.
Heavy duty roofing pitchfork would have made quick work of that rotten wood bed with children screws.you got this because you have a good plan and are relentless. Good luck on the long trip
That ramp truck is awesome. Even more awesomer is what it will be hauling and even more awesomer than that is where you’re going & what you’ll be doing! Long live Mopar trucks and cars!! Thanks for doing your part to show us how to keep them on the road. 👍🏁🔥🇺🇸🏆
Right after the creation of the welder, they created the grinder. This probably isn’t true, but I say it almost every time I weld. Welding is one of those skills you have to keep using to stay good at it. When I used to weld a lot, my welds were much more pleasing to the eye.
You got what you needed through trial and error just learned another real life skill that will save you money. Imagine what it would have cost taking it somewhere and having them do all the cutting, fabricating ,and welding on that truck. You did a nice job can't wait to see the underside storage compartments when you get around to it. Your description of the long term vision sounds really good and functional . Just Keep it on the ramps and no shame in a back up camera it's smart .
I’ve had a lot of ramp trucks over the years. Here’s some unsolicited advice. Relocate the taillights and make the whole side a lip for the ramp. You’re gonna need it Work lights by the trailer hitch, and low on the deck at front. The lights up top seem like a good idea but they make shadows and are useless. Fill that center in except for a slot for ramps. I know you want storage but you’re gonna drop a lot of cars in it when the deck is wet. There’s more but I’m not writing a book
Awesome. I actually got some big gnarly lights to use for reverse lights on the bumper, and already added a spot in my control panel for a switch to use them as work lights too. Dropping the front lights to the deck makes good sense. I wasn’t totally sold on having them up top for various reasons anyway. The center area is going to be completely covered by a panel that opens. I intend for it to be strong enough to resist the occasional car trying to drive over it. I also don’t plan to use this for anything but race days, when it shouldn’t be raining - but obviously stuff happens. Thanks, I really appreciate it.
All I can say is "Wow." 👍 There are different options for the tie downs. I would try some in the metal at the front and back, and some in the wood on the bed. I think they look like "D" in little holes in the wood. The Mopar radio is roughly Din and a half and most of the aftermarket radios with inputs for rear view camera are double Din. A few are single Din. As for it being the perfect truck, I would like all my "first gens" to be Club cabs since I don't like the shorter leg room and upright seat backs in the standard cabs. There was a long feature in a car mag about 40 years ago about a stock car racer with a long career. A Mopar guy. He built the "perfect ramp truck" by combining several other trucks. I think the key to it was starting with a diesel powered D600 or something like that and replacing the cab with a Club Cab or crew cab and lengthening the frame.
This is a great exercise in built not bought. This things awesome! Pretty similar to what I have in mind for my ramper, just going to build it on a crew cab Squarebody instead! For now I'll have to be satisfied with my wrecker!
Incredible job Jamie! Too cool ramp truck should work well for the trip to Tennessee……take your time getting there and all will be fine. Uncle Tony will be waiting with a big hug. 😊
Bro, Ramp truck dreams for the WIN! Solidly impressed. She's straight and true-ish. Looks banging with your charger in her. Maybe once you get the sides boxed in, Add the hockey sticks to the side? or maybe AAR stripes? dunno but she needs....something. Besides lighting and the crane. Just an Idea. Keep it up, we're still watching and loving every minute.
Great job, Jamie! As you say; follow your dreams. And you did and brought us along. You just built something that a lot of us motorheads would love to have. Looking forward to see the rest of the improvements before you head east.
If it rains, I’m not going racing! Also, I will generally be loading and unloading with a winch - but I may still install either grabby tape or expanded metal.
When global domination has been achieved.... put a head bust of Prudence on the hood of the ramp truck with working glowing eyes .....good content and thanks 🔧👍
You need some of the mead I submitted to the State Fair on Friday. Actually two meads (4.3% and 5.6%) plus an Eisbock that won the gold in its category last year. The meads are super refreshing - like a lawn mower beer but a mead with some lime and/or tangelo juice for flavor.
You can get flap disks at lots of places for your grinder. They ripped the wood down really fast for tapering the edges of wood or grinding out a notch to make the wood or metal fit the way you want. they work great.
Another great vid, I said it before and I'll say it again "Better n tv" , your editing is pro and I love that you don't annoy with high speed redundant mundane recording or lame background music and gimmick sounds or idiotic memes. Although I despise fake drama I did appreciate the artistic license during the previous Holley replacement vid. Definitely had some Jack Nicholson "The Shining" moments.
Dude, yeah. Haha. Basically ‘72-93 are the same truck. Yes the dashes, interior panels and noses changed, as well as the added body lines, but to me they’re all the same thing.

That's good thinking, but personally at this point in history, I'm not so sure brand new parts are better than crappy old parts. I'm going to hedge my bets by buying a new one and stashing it behind the seat. As long as I have one with me, it will never break. I need to pick up a fuel filter anyway. Thanks!
Nice work Jamie gotta say I'm digging the cab swap cant wait to see it. Also you could always swap a 70's era front clip with bird bath hood that would be cool too but I like your idea better.

Nice! Funny enough, we own a ‘66 Coronet station wagon with a 440 swapped in, and before I dug in on this project, I was strongly considering putting a hitch on the Coronet instead. I’ll probably do that too. One of those why not both type situations. Haha.
@@DeadDodgeGarage agreed....im not gettin rid of the ramp truck.....its too handy.....but the cool factory of pulling in in a wagon hauling a super stocker.....cool factor is maximum.....but.....your swept line cab is in line with my plan of a 58 gmc cab on mine....but like you toooo many projects....

Nice. Yes when the cab swap happens, I have big plans for comfy seat, center console, etc. creature comforts. That will definitely be a while.
Awesome job. Thanks for sharing your experience and humor
The ramp bed looks good, and it definitely looks strong enough. And, a sweptline cab would be super cool, especially with a"DDG" logo on each door.
I think so too!
🇺🇸👍 It’s amazing what a person can do when your back is up against the wall. Good Video
Very ambitious project there Jamie, especially for a self-professed "non-fabricator".
I'd have some concerns about cantilevered forces at play or some such, but most of

Back in time Race truck carrier . Old school MOPAR only😀👍🏻🇦🇺allowed .
Oh man that crew cab with matching race car livery is doooope
I knooooow. It’s real good
I enjoy watching you work on this truck. I had a 92 150 318 magnum red also. So its taking me back to my 20s.
Looks really good dude! I am definitely impressed. I would have had a heart attack driving the 68 on the back of that. Crazy!

But do I want air flowing up and through there? I’m definitely not smart enough to model the whole truck in Air Shaper to find out. Haha.
That truck is awesome! I can’t wait to see it when it’s fully finished!
I love the solid rims on those old barracuda’s, it just looks right 👍
Love the truck it looks like something my uncle Joe had hidden behind an old double ender life boat (28' UPSIDE DOWN) in his back yard.
Now I know what it was for I think!
Jamie, you ARE a fabricator! That turned out great.
Fantastic job and thank you for sharing! Looks great and definitely looking forward to seeing the rest of it come together
Great job Jamie! Congrats on the feverish burst of energy and focus. This is how things get done. My opinion on the Sweptline cab swap - forget it. I think you've just leveled up on your fabrication skills... Good job.
I’m impressed!! Great job from one bad welder to a lot better welder.
I'm running 12x16.5 duplex rims on my D350 dually. Weight capacity is the same. Smoother ride as there is only two side-walls, and stays in balance better.
Pretty cool! Don't forget some type of hooks for the tie downs.
I’m on it!
I'm stoked to see the cab swap! That thing is gonna be sweet!
Pressure washing is strangely satisfying!!
Dr. Jamie... I am VERY impressed! Dang man... Good show!

I'm digging the big red express. Have a good day.
Think I can feel your satisfaction here in West Australia. Truly a dream come true.

Totally new look for the old D350 she is more useful now. Charger looked awesome on the back. Keep up with the great work and stay safe out there.

Definitely coming together. Happy Tene see ing.

3/8 of a clue should get you half way there most of the time. lovely
Weld it thick grind it slick!
It's very simple you'll buy more Chargers and completely take over the World. I can honestly say that's the best video I've seen in 5 years.Well done
Bingo! Oh, thanks!

Wow wow, you could be the best guy doing metal work on chargers if you wanted to. Very impressive!!!!
Good truck
You work as i do - thats perfect
"Don't run your hands satisfyingly over the boards you just installed" 😃😃Been there, done that. I'll probably do it today lol.
Incredible job Jamie! Too cool ramp truck should work well for the trip to Tennessee……take your time getting there and all will be fine. Uncle Tony will be waiting with a big hug. 😊

You’re welcome 🤣
That is a good looking ramp truck, buddy

Love the Super Troopers reference.
Proud of that. Haha.
Absolutely loved the video! Really appreciate the longer length video, more like watching.
A short movie. And maaaan that DEMON is sweet!
Awesome! There’s plenty more on the Demon coming up soon too!
You made me giggle cause I’ve been there before, the first time you actually go BUY brand new metal and then weld it 🤣 it almost looks too nice!
So glorious!! Beta test with the best car in the fleet..yea let’s do that!!
Damn right! Haha.
One big suggestion would be to install some type of traction material on the wood, if it rains that wood will be incredibly slick.
I love it! Haha. Thanks!
Awesome video! I love the longer content. Fabrication like this is not my forte because, well, I’m kinda dumb. Great content, thanks Jamie.
Ramp trucks are life
Nice one Jamie. A focussed goal and intense motivation on your part my man.🙂🐏
Oh, and I like the fancy touch refrigerator hell yeah lol
Excellent job young man!
Looks good. I plan to do something similar with our 56 GMC. It already has a 12' dump bed.
wow bravo jamie! great build and video.

Lookin' good enough... nice job.
This thing will kickass! Hope to see that cab swap!
Nice job on the ramp truck Jamie! It seems pretty swank. Can't wait to see you drive it across the country...fingers crossed!
You can get flap disks at lots of places for your grinder. They ripped the wood down really fast for tapering the edges of wood or grinding out a notch to make the wood or metal fit the way you want. they work great.
I almost went and grabbed one out of the tool box, but went for the saw instead.
Haaahaha. I should burst through a door one of these days. Thank you!
When I hear "ramp truck" I think of "The Dukes of Hazzard" car jumping high in the air."
Not ruling it out
Looks good with the 68 on it .
Tons of work to do on your own, looks good!
I had a 79, it’s ridiculous how similar they were with a 92 🤣 not a whole lot of major changes going on in those days.
Dude, yeah. Haha. Basically ‘72-93 are the same truck. Yes the dashes, interior panels and noses changed, as well as the added body lines, but to me they’re all the same thing.
Love it jamie....good job!
Very cool truck, it looks like it will serve you well.
Hey Jaime, I drive 12 valves lots of miles. I figured that engine was unbreakable. Traveling from my home in Idaho to Omaha to see my kid in the Air Force this past winter, I broke down. The lift pump on the side of my 96 failed. Really sucked in south dakota during snow storm at night. Before your journey it is prob a good idea to put a new one on yours. Much easier to do in your shop than in a parking lot or on the side of the freeway! Great videos, keep them coming.
Right, that would be my second choice - styling this cab like a 70s truck. I really want the Sweptline look, but the other option would save me a lot of time. For now, I will run this cab while I think about it.
Good work here Jamie 💪
I am impressed. Good job. You probably will do this again.
Yeah… I probably will. Maybe not in four days though.

That truck don't look bad at all , I like it anyway
Good job Jamie, there is no way I would haul a car to Tennessee with that truck. I love old Dodge diesels but that's pushing it. I live along the Alaska highway and I see broke down old trucks from the lower 48 all of the time. Best of luck 🤞
But 12 valves don’t break! The transmissions behind them do though. That’s my only real concern here. We’ll see if it survives testing.
Great job on your truck
Great job there pal!
Well done Jamie great work - kinda!!!!
Hey uncle D this looks freakin awesome
EXCELLENT JOB.
My second gen Dodge pulls to the right too. I've aligned it three times now still pulls to the right
Did I mention in this video that my third gen does it too? Lol. Damn them. My ‘02 pulled to the right after a 1200 mile tow. My ‘99 kind of pulled to the everywhere. I should probably just get used to it, but I feel for my new tires.
Great work buddy!
Really nice job I have a 85 dodge 1 ton currently trying to get it on the road with the original 360 that I rebuilt for towing
That truck is awesome and I admire your resilience !! Well done !!
