  • If you want to build muscle fast to help your BJJ game or just to feel healthy after 45 years old, try the strong lift 5X5. I've used the SL 5X5 in the past and I'm currently using it to strengthen my entire body. I'm documenting my journey right here on TH-cam. I'm mainly doing this to get stronger (yes) but to also help prevent injuries while practicing BJJ. You can also keep up with my journey on Instagram. Link is below. Thanks for watching and being awesome!

    Since the beginning of the year I’ve been doing Starting Strength it’s 3x5 emphasis on squat, overhead press and deadlift, lifts 3 days a week adding weight every session. started wanting just make my self alittle more durable and stronger for BJJ, Started squats at 225, I’m now almost at 400lbs. Took about 3 weeks off for vacation. I’ve really liked starting strength.

      400 lbs would snap me in half....😆 - Maybe I'll get there but man, after 220lbs for 5 - I think I may stick at this weight for another week or so. I think I tweaked my back like an idiot. Not too bad, but I can feel it. Appreciate you sharing. I'm going to keep updating everyone on my progress each week. Would be cool to see your progress if you have time to comment. Again, appreciate you watching, commenting and just your support, brother! 👊🙏

      Definitely, I like your channel. I think everyone could use a little weight training. 🦾

    Brother! The 5x5 is the workout I used exclusively when I got back into lifting, pre BJJ. Then when COVID hit, everything went to the back burner. I’m now back into BJJ at a Gracie CTC and I’m back in a gym. I thought I’d create my own lifting plan but I’m going back to the 5x5. I bought an app for the iPhone which makes the program very simple. Kinda like your book but even simpler for dummies like me. My life went upside down around February but it’s getting back on track finally. I’m so relieved.

      Man, I was wondering where you've been brother! I checked your YT channel a couple of times and hadn't seen any new vids posted. Glad you're doing well and back at it. I used to be an avid lifter in my younger days, until I was choked out by an older purple belt that weighed 140 lbs soak and wet. I had a 5x5 app but I think it was free. I liked it but hated pulling out the phone, waiting for face recognition, etc...however, It was a cool little app...I just went back to basics! Man, it's good to see you back in the comment section. Keep it going brother! 🙏👊

      Man Unfiltered I’ll be posting some stuff again soon. It’s been a hectic few months. Besides the whole COVID pandemic, my mom passed away unexpectedly in May so I had all of that to deal with and it really slowed things down in my life. She was only 63 and the cause of death made me think of things I never considered before. Glad to see you’re getting videos out, I’ve missed the interactions!

      Dhang man...truly sorry to hear that. My mom and dad are in their 60’s...I think of this often...I’m really sorry, man.

    I started 5x5 but once I got squats over 300lbs the workouts started taking a long time and recovery was rough. I switched to 3x5 starting strength and then on to barbell logic.
    I’m 43 and noticed better recovery and pushed through some plateaus after decreasing the volume. I’ve hit all my strength goals so now I maintaining and focus on weight management. Being a new white belt helps with that😅

      @@midlifebjj did you ever make the Excel spreadsheet available? I am also curious as to your final progress on the program and if you were able to maintain 3 days a week on SL and still go to BJJ.

    I do a 4x40 10kg.dumbells routine for my biceps. I have fairly big arms. as for the rest I never do weights, just cardio and callisthenics whatever way it's spelled.

    • @midlifebjj
      @midlifebjj  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just just BJJ as my cardio, but I should start doing some kind of cardio in the mornings - since I train BJJ at night....Appreciate the comment as always! 👊🙏

      @@midlifebjj Thank you, I appreciate your videos as usual. Remember, I'm the 62 old fart that was about to start a new career as a bjj animal but was thwarted by Rona😂😂😂 But...the bjj solo drills I do keep me in shape like nothing else!💪

    Great video, I am planning on doing a 5x5. I am 51 years old and weigh 275 lbs. Do I have to add weight EVERY TIME I workout? Or should I modify the program and add weight weekly?

    • @midlifebjj
      @midlifebjj  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The process is to add 5 pounds each visit (3 days per week)…let me know if you have more questions.

    i do 3 work sets for upper body main lifts (bench, OHP), and 1 work set for lower body (squat, deadlift). i feel 5x5 is just too hard on my body when training jiu jitsu every day. esp my back being a guard player. how does your body hold up?

    • @midlifebjj
      @midlifebjj  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s doing okay...but I’m not going to keep adding 5 pounds past the point of comfort...I also will stick at a weight for 2 to 3 weeks before moving up - if the weight is difficult for me...slow and easy for me...Appreciate you sharing though. May adjust My workouts....I only do the 5x5 on the days I don’t practice BJJ....

    I just started BJJ last week 05/05/21 and I was thinking of adding CrossFit 3 times a week. 5x5 seems way better. Any chance you can share that excel sheet? New sub and sent you IG follow request. Thx.
