  • So today's car is a strange one - it's a hybrid and all you need to do is pump petrol like any other car. It's the Nissan Serena e-Power! Watch Julian and Jon bring out their family man personas to judge this big MPV for its practicality, and to see whether its unique setup under the hood is something you'll get used to.

    Almost 20 minutes of video length, I'm still watching this video at normal speed.
    Seriously informative, entertaining and not boring. Easy to understand slang.

    Noise from the petrol generator annoying ⁉️🤔
    I'm surprised you are not already used to it by the noise the DC fan from your ICE is making 😅‼️
    Series hybrids sounds very exciting. A 1.5 kWh battery replacing the cumbersome mechanical transmission along with the differential. Way to go👏👏👏👏 ‼️
    I only wish there was 60/40 front row seating arrangement by taking advantage of the electric power needing no gear selector. 60/40 second row seating I think the not so luxuriously appointed versions are already offering.
    Wonderful review 😉🙏

    Don’t think you should call it a hybrid. It works exactly like a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, using the motor to generate electricity to charge the battery pack. It should be called a petrol EV. Like a hydrogen fuel cell EV. 😊 I wonder how the Nissan Kicks e-power will perform?

    How is the sound insulation? Will the engine sound become super loud at high speed >100km/hr?

    • @neorenjie
      @neorenjie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The engine sound when charging just sounds like a muted rumbling of a normal engine. It's not loud at all if you compare to petrol cars. But it's noticeable when it comes on from total silence mode when it's not charging. If you're driving with the radio on or playing some music then I'm sure you won't even notice it.

    • @tonyfox25
      @tonyfox25 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neorenjie I see. How about moderate to aggressive engine revving at high speed? Eg from 60km to 100km/hr and above. Is it louder than normal na petrol cars or same? I'm not referring to those high end super silent cars like lexus

    • @neorenjie
      @neorenjie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tonyfox25 just like normal petrol vehicles when you floor the pedal the engine is louder. When cruising at high speed it's silent if it's running on stored battery. But it usually doesn't last long because the car basically can't run more than 3 mins continuous without activating the engine from charging it.
      The engine is not loud, I'll say it's comparable or softer than many average and lower end cars. It does sound different though. It's sounds more like an air con compressor than an engine. Just a constant vibrating sound. With the radio on it's really not noticeable.

    Lemme give a summarised review of this car. In sg context
    Pros: good FC.ave at least 16km per litre / Powerful torque i.e pickup from start is good / low road tax about 800plus / pretty good NVH / very good interior space / boot space is ok in its class/ 3rd roll seats not difficult to fold up. Unless u r a weakling
    Cons: 10 year warranty or 160000km for battery. Is it sufficient? / E power technology not fully explained still new in sg. Eg if the battery is dead, can the car still move fast via using the petrol? Or totally unable to move at all? This will deter many from driving to Malaysia / The electric sound from the charging is subjective. When driving , there is slight vibration from the charging./ Uncertainty entering some carparks. This car height is 1.86 m (?) . Some carpark is only 1.85m / the upholstery looks nice but not feel nicely sewed together. / How much is the battery? Some say 3-4k. Some say 8-10k.. / the technology is proven in Japan but still considering new in sg.i.e tan Chong still experimenting. Eg the 360 camera was initially shown in the smaller screen. Now they have included in the headset too . So in future maybe TC might have better perks / the ves rebate is 10k. Average price is around 128k. So actual price is 138k. Parf is pretty low. About 12 k only if I remembered correctly. We have to return the 10k back eventually. / The sound system is only meh.no base, hollow. / Heard many horror stories about TC after sales service.
    Welcome any one to add on or refute what I've mentioned. It's only my personal opinion btw.

    • @XXR8891
      @XXR8891 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's because Serena has no gearbox so it's drivetrain and output is different, do not expect the revving to goes like how normal car shifts its gear up & down. it's different.

    Another great review!
    In a way it's similar to BMW i3 rex system (but Nissan has 4x the power from petrol, and a battery that is 20x smaller ...and no plug).
    I love the one-pedal regen on our i3, and glad Nissan does same.👍
    Also love the limitless range of having a generator built in (even though we've only used 28 liters in 14,000km of driving)
    Here in western USA, most have access to plug (garage built-in to detached homes). Nissan system is perfect for those who don't have plug access.
    This epower also solves the CVT issues that Nissan suffered.
    Problem in USA: 30% of people are adamantly opposed to any electrification (mostly out of lack of familiarity).
    A smaller portion of population won't accept ANY form of petrol range extender on Electrics due to their militant cultism regarding EVs.

    • @neorenjie
