The "occasions" I dress for as a modern "involved" father of an 18 months old son are: him smearing nose goo / shoe dirt / food on my t-shirt, my jeans, my jacket, my car....him not wanting to walk and be carried, causing me to sweat and stink, him flooding the floor with whatever, making the house dirty so that I have to clean it up (sweaty)....doing household tasks. My concern is really not if I look better in black or if my t-shirts (of which I own 20 of the same one) have the right fit....

I have a long torso and reducing the length of my shirts to make my legs look longer would mean that my stomach is showing. If I don't wear a 'tall' fit shirt it looks like I'm wearing a crop top. So it's impossible to have an ideal ratio with a long torso unless you can find super high waisted pants which don't really exist for men.
