    Really love your work. I can understand about being older and learning something for the first time. I didn't start photography until I was 49. That was during 2020 as well.

      That’s awesome, man. There weren’t many silver linings to 2020 but we definitely had some free time to experiment with things.

    This is fantastic! I've stumbled across your channel and this particular video while I'm out looking for a TH-cam channel to start. I also have started late in life with art, although much older than you. At the young age of 50, my daughter asked me to paint her a picture for her Christmas present. My wife suggested that I do that for gifts for all of my kids (5 total). This was Sept of 2021, so I got to work. I watched a couple TH-cam videos and got some ideas and away I went. I hadn't painted since high school art class. I was accepted into the Art Institutes out of high school but couldn't afford them even after the small scholarship I was offered. I'm considering making videos of my painting process, finished pictures and selling prints. After watching your video, I'm more inclined now than ever to do take a shot at it. I mean, what do I have to lose?? Besides my sanity? lol Great video, thank you for sharing/inspiring!

    I’m don’t even know why I am watching your videos because I am all about aquarium fish and photography/videography. Yeah I guess I do know why - you have a presence and authenticity that I am striving for in all my videos. It’s like you’re just talking with me. But the videos also look great. Jealous. Keep this up and you’ll be huge on TH-cam. No doubt 🔥🔥🔥

    I started painting a little over two years ago, and had no idea what I was doing. I still feel that way some days to be honest. I had my most successful event in mid June this year on a $1000 day, but still struggle strategy wise selling online/social. I feel like lack of experience is a big part of it, and my market is a little smaller locally. Great video by the way to show it can be done!

    I am in the same situation as doing my best to make income as a part time artist. Recently, someone opened the door for me in the art world and that is when I started taking it seriously. As a Kid I wanted to be featured in art galleries and it happened with them. My first group gallery show. I was super stocked about that. That is when it started to become real. From there, I started doing art walks and started selling prints and got in to that as well. So, so far everything is going well. As for your video, this was helpful and engaging. I did not know you started at the age of 30 which seems mind boggling to me because you seem like you have been doing it for years. So thank you for sharing & I enjoyed the video.

      That's awesome to hear! It's definitely something where the results compound over time. The more people see you the more likely you are to sell artwork, so I'm glad to hear you're doing all of that. Ya, everything I've done in the arts started later in life. Acting at almost 28 and painting shortly after.
      I had always interest but didn't actually pursue anything until it was all I could think about, haha.

      Yo I commend you because it is a big step in that age because not a lot of people are open to it like you are. You are paving the way for a lot of people, Especially, for me. I seen the video of how you became an actor and wanted that as well because I love movies. After watching your video made it more easy for me to go that route as well. Appreciate all the effort. Thanks@@DarrenNaylor

    Hey I do art in my free time and I’m confident in saying that starting a side hustle is possible.I have enough time to take commissions,but marketing and social skills are not my strength. I keep thinking to start soon,and just keept it in my head.And now month after month is passing and nothing has changed. Now I thought about getting some help for the social aspect like working with social media to get orders/commissions while I focus on making the Drawings and Paintings. The profit we make would be split in half.

    Congrats on making money from your art. I have yet to do that 😊. I suck at marketing. Have played with ideas and a business plan and making copies of my original art in a print on demand type format. Still is just an idea. No money to invest into anything…but I will NOT stop painting. Just have to sort out the sales/marketing end of things.

    Hey man, I appreciate the video you put together. It's packed with great information. However, I found the white transition screens to be quite jarring. As you scrub through the video, you'll probably notice they resemble a strobe light effect.

    I just stumbled on your video and already subscribed!
    I paint since I'm a kid but took it seriously about 10 years ago with ons and offs. I'm very good at executing but horrible at sales and marketing. I sold quite a number of paintings on the course of those years (mostly online/overseas) but at not so good prices. I'm considering start an TH-cam channel to record my painting process and see if I get some attention from this. Unfortunately where I live (Brazil) art is not so valued as it is in more developed countries.
    Do you have any advice to someone who is willing to start a similar path as yours today on what could be the inicial steps to market online?
    Thank you!

    • @DarrenNaylor
      @DarrenNaylor  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you and that's awesome to hear! Yes, my honest opinion is that where you are located nowadays has significantly less impact than it did in the past thanks to social media.
      Work on building your audience online by sharing your work, process, and providing value for other artists. As your audience grows, begin also networking with different art gallery pages around the world in hotspots for art. So NY, LA, Miami, Paris, etc etc and just start adding those galleries, both small and large, on instagram and other platforms. Start engaging with them and find somewhere you art may be a good fit. They will occasionally offer submission opportunities for exhibits and it could be your foot in the door for galleries outside of Brazil to bing your art in. I've done this a few times.
      But ultimately, your online presence is what is going to allow you to be global. So start building a strong network and community and it won't matter where you're at as people will buy your work from around the world. You don't want to be dependent on physical galleries alone. Have a solid website with work available for purchase.
      Get active on Tiktok and Instagram if you aren't already as they are going to be your quickest route to engagement (post reels on IG often). TH-cam is great but it's a very slow grind in most cases.
      Hope any of this helps!

    Hi Darren.. let me ask you ... What platform did you use to sell your Prints ?

    • @DarrenNaylor
      @DarrenNaylor  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I ended up just going to a local print shop and having them print them so I could manage the quality better. It was more costly and time consuming though so I'll likely look for a happy medium in the future.

    Did you get any copyright issues? Or how did you handle that part?

    • @DarrenNaylor

      This is a great question that I have found several different answers for. The general consensus I've found was as long as I wasn't misrepresenting the company or claiming to be affiliated with the company that it would be fine. I'm just using reference images in art and changing things to make my own images. Not completely using their brand/logo solely as a way to sell things.
      It's why you see so many shirts, prints, etc using other peoples brands like LV and such. But I'm sure there is a fine line if it's found to be in mass productions or the primary way someone is identified. I was just doing these small, one-off things so I'm sure I wouldn't be worth the time even if someone had a problem with it..haha.
      But again, I never consulted with a lawyer or anything and I don't use any brands or likeness anymore so I honestly don't have an exact answer.

    • @Jasminlit
      @Jasminlit 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DarrenNaylor wow thank you for the quick and long answer! We had a class about copyright but only for German law. We also came to the conclusion that the likeliness of getting sued is so low.. it's interesting to see your case and that you didn't get into any trouble is very relieving! :)

    The phrase full time artist does not apply! You make marks on the canvas when you have the time and energy! Its not punching a time clock, working 8 hours a day. I hear this phrase so often that i had to say something!

    • @DarrenNaylor
      @DarrenNaylor  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I’m referring to full time and part time in relation to income. Some people only sell art as their sole means of income and some sell art here and there but have a job or other means of income. I understand that an artists is always an artist, which is what I believe you’re referring to.

      What are you talking about?? Even at a regular job you are Not investing every minute of your 8 hour shift in your work (breaks excluded), you act as if other works truly work "full time", please stop.
