@@socialcreature8518 Hi! When you work with RedBubble or Zazzle, it is a licensing agreement (a binding contract) you sign with them in order to offer your work to the public for sale on their merchandise. Regarding safeguarding your work, sites like these do have limited copyright infringement efforts they do, but it is very limited.

The best way to make money as an artist is to treat it as a business. Especially since it is one. You can always hire someone to help. Especially for things like accounting/bookkeeping/taxes and even the marketing etc. networking with other artists or biz people help too, because you can share tips and inspire each other.

Thank you for sharing these educational art selling tips! I have been selling on print on demand sites but never tried art licenseing, it sounds very interesting, Appreciate your insights Dena! Happy New Year !

Hi! I don’t know if any option to have Amazon do a print on demand for artwork the way they do print on demand books. I do have licensing agreements with companies who use Amazon as a landing page then direct to their print on demand sites. Hopefully this answer makes sense- let me know if you have any follow on questions
I have been looking for direction to license my work to manufactures... been on my mind a LOT. And lo & behold... into my TH-cam feed You popped! LOL Thank you SO much for your tutiliage... you are a myriad of timely information! I am a 'Narrative Collage Architect / Surreal Imagery Design' - your principles apply for all types of Artists. Again... Thank You KINDLY! 🖌 Deborah
Very relevant topic and helpful tips.👏 It took me a long time to figure out which way would be the most acceptable for me. To monitor art sites, social networks and many other resources I came to the conclusion that while I am in my country I need my site and to promote it. It's good that at least there are skills to create independently. Now I am engaged in its filling.
Dear Aliya I appreciate your wonderful compliment! Thank you so much. Agreed, focusing on what works best in your specific country is the way to go as you build and continue your art career. Big hugs to you my dear friend!!
I'm learning here. It's good that I heard from you that staying in a gallery can be hard, so I'm prepared once I submit my work. Thank you for sharing your expertise. 😄 I wonder how the income from art sales can be filed for taxes? I'm sure the tax situation between the US and the Philippines is totally different, but I would like to hear about your experience about filing taxes for art sales. 🙂
Hi Rhema! Yes, in the United States, income from art sales is counted as ordinary income if you file taxes as an individual or jointly with a spouse as I do. You can do deductions for art related expenses on your taxes if they are legal, appropriate, and fall within the categories listed on the forms and within the filing limits. Note I am not a tax attorney, and don't give official tax advice. I assume the Philippines will have some sort of laws governing this as well.
A number of restos in Manila are hosting sip and wine events. A good way for artists to showcase their expertise. I get to know artists from these events, too 💖
Depends on the artist. Stickers work for some, but not all. Many artists make fantastic careers working for and with tech companies. I agree wholeheartedly learning how to sell is key. Thank you for writing!! Take care and have a great rest of your weekend
1: Google term "call to artists", some pay some don't. In America it's as if every location has a hundred or so. Pay doesn't always profit. Start with free or public/government project. Number 2: know your audience. ask your customer what they like or don't like. Art isn't about you it's about them connecting with you. Don't paint landscapes for a portrait competition. Number 3: include novelty. Add something unusual. Number 4: if it your art sucks, it sucks. Ask people what they like about it and what they don't like. Everyone knows what sucks. Don't take it personally, consider it a gift that can help you sell. In fact, you should have to sell art, you're helping your customer buy art. Pro tip: 1 Would you rather sell to everyone including poor people? Or would you like to rinse the rich? I personally do not want poor people's money. They need it. I think it is morally just to sell something for $30000. Pro tip 2: everything face to face is better. Consider sales a friend making experience. Being an artist is making money being authentic. You deserve it. It'll take 10 years.
