"What's the best beginner's anime?" Probably just because I'm old fashioned, but Cowboy Bepop is still my ideal gateway anime. The westernized style and storytelling doesn't alienate the viewers much. The comedy isn't full of those over-the-top gags that can easily exhaust me in Shonen. It's also pretty episodic, so you don't need to worry about committing to a long ongoing story (only a few episodes move the main plot forward). It's just a good show that doesn't overload you with the typical anime tropes right away.
Gigguk did a video on some of the best first anime to recommend someone based on the person’s genre interests. Though his blind pick based on no knowledge on the person was AOT.
man im so proud of this guy edit: this one is such fun video.. i literally bursting to laughter seeing you rack your brains out knowing the anime in your head but not being able to say it.. im proud of you because you're literally not an anime fan a year ago and now look at you, taking an anime op quiz like a champ..even though you got alot wrong, its not surprising at all.. if you tell your past self that you would be reacting to anime songs, series, and now quiz, how do you think your past self would react? btw i guarantee it that you saved some of the songs you've hear and like, thats why you know the songs, but you didnt know what anime is it because usually song titles doesnt have anime titles in it.. i know it because thats how i am before, i genuinely got into anime because i like jpop and since there's alot of good songs in anime thats how i started oh another note, i think you can pause the timer, this is only easy, hard to know how well you'll do on next level of difficulty
The Ranking of Kings opening you struggled with is called "Naked Hero" so that's probably where you got the hero thing from, I would say that counts as you got the show right, but just got the name mixed up
To answer your question, I think Spy x Family might be the best beginner anime. Not too weird, not too dark, not too complicated, likable characters, great comedy, consistent tone, a short commitment of only 24 episodes so far...I know plenty of non anime fans who have told me how much they loved Spy x Family.
@@gersonalberto5666 a lot of people enjoy action/fight. I can guarantee you that most people don't want to watch a slice of life for their first anime.
Ok. Already impressed. I started watching anime AFTER playing these quizzes with my friend. He made me be the judge while he guessed everything and it's the completion that made me get into anime and especially openings I have 100+ anime already watched now and I'm not getting a lot more than what you are getting
You did a lot better then I thought! (Looking at the fact that you are in the anime fandom for not too long and actually watched only a few series it is really impressive how much openings you do remember and recognise from the openings reactions!) I deffinitely would love to see part two with the other 50 ^^ Don't worry about pausing too much, I personally think it is perfectly okay ^^ I was playing along and my score is 41 (I missed some obvious ones that I should have gotten, so I am a little mad at myself for some of them, but I haven't watched most of these series yet)
It was hilarious watching you beat yourself up about missing OP's. I was really impressed with how many you got considering how you haven't watched most of the shows and only done a reaction once. That Made in Abyss one was sad though. Really looking forward to the second part.
Luke: "Okey, this is either One P... Me:" Yay, he got it!" Luke:"...iece or..." Me: NO, SO CLOSE, IT'S WITH THE HERO!" Lule: "...My Hero Academia..." Me: "😐" _table flip meme_
There is no absolute best beginners anime, since it will always depend on the person watching. Now, if you want to pick one for each genre, that has a lot better chance of working.
I've been watching anime since the late 80s, so when it comes to "What is the best first anime?" my answer is I honestly have no clue. I can say that a lot of people I know who got into anime did so because of Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, or Bleach. Most people who are getting into anime are younger so usually a shounen/shoujo(Sailor Moon for instance) is often a good pick. (For anyone curious my first was Vampire Hunter D, and no it was NOT appropriate for my age)
This is a good beginner quiz, it gives you the chorus not just the first few seconds. Eventualy you'll end up where I did doing a 1 second per opening quiz and wondering how you end up getting them all.
And I remember this is the first video I saw from you and I was among the people recommending Attack on Titan Later I recommended Jujutsu Kaisen, Death Note, FMA Brotherhood and Spy X Family Now I recommend you My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer. Love your animé journey! Happy anniversary 🎉🎉
I love how you kept saying ‘It’s an old anime’ then listed a couple anime that came out in early 2000s and then said ‘Demon Slayer.’ 😆 At one point you even mentioned My Hero but then said no to it and said Demon Slayer again even though it’s more recent than My Hero 😆
Honestly you did way better than I expected considering you've only been watching anime for a year! Still can't believe you didn't get Overlord, Re Zero, Vinland Saga, Domestic Girlfriend and Demon Slayer though 😂 also I don't mind the pausing as I also need longer to think on some of them.
Don't worry about getting them wrong Luke. I'm getting to 30 years of watching anime and I still get some anime I watched wrong. Hell, I got 3 wrong in this video, which doesn't look like much, *but I watched all of them!!* I got freaking JoJo wrong!!!! FREAKING JOJO!!!! 😭😭 *Anyway, you're doing well Luke. The secret to get these right is as easy as to watch the opening every episode.* As proof, I offer the fact that I got Blue Lock wrong, and I skipped the opening. Meanwhile, Hell's Paradise, which aired at the same time, I got right because IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE for me to skip the opening kk 🤣🤣 Oh, and happy anniversary! 😁😁
Its funny how I recently watch bleach thousand year blood war note that its been a long time since I watched bleach and how many similarities that I find between jujutsu kaisen and bleach, like the way the power works in bleach especially the "bankai" is similar to how "domain expansion" works at least visually. also when he says jujutsu kaisen have one of the best fighting scene... well... yes, but have you seen bleach? one punch man? the list goes on but yeah, I'm excited to see Luke's opinion on them after seeing more animes.
As for that _beginner anime for new people_ i try to rec something that isn't popular and isn't shounen cuz good god there's so many amazing anime that no one talks about!!
So you got 14 correct! (Counting ranking of kings) I guessed you would've gotten 21 which seems like a good mark. But forgetting opening are normal so you still did good. I have watched so many quizes that i know the opening without knowing anything about the anime. (I got 47 right) I look forward to the next part!
Nowadays I recommend Spy x Family as a starter because it has a bit of everything without any extreme situations. Based on what they like about it, you already can guess what genre they like. You did well on the quiz for only watching anime for a year. My first was Gurren Lagann and has been my favorite since.
15:30 - it really depends on the genre. I personally say few beginner's anime are Angel Beats (drama), Death Note (thriller, detective), and maybe Sakamoto for comedy (not the best choice though)
I've been watching anime for about 2 1/2 years now and I've watched 8,300 episodes, which you might think that there isn't many interesting ones left but there are so many that I've never even heard of but I'm still finding new ones so there is no way that you're journey is gonna end any time soon. you will be consumed by the gods of entertainment, good luck💀
- About Death note: The moment you think the show should have end (No spoil), is the moment the two mangaka want to stop it (they say it in the next manga they write: Bakuman. A manga that talk about their "debut" in the manga world (yes strange to make a manga about mangaka but it's ok)) but the editor come and say they should continue if they want to succeed in the world of mangaka. they where young, so they listen and they continue. - Second, you guess Tokyo Ghoul right, but please don't see it, it's beyond trash. - For me you valid the "oussama ranking' you get it - For Made in Abyss: oh sweet summer child, you are not ready for the moovie and second season.
15:17 I think that question it's not an easy one. Depends on your age, your likings, etc... I began watching anime when I was just a little kid, I was barely 6 or 7 years old when I can remember my first anime series. I remember dragon ball and dragon ball Z, Dr Slump, kinnikuman, saint seiya, one piece, sailor moon; maybe there's more, but some of then I don't remember when I watched them... If you start watching anime as an adult, I think fullmetal alchemist brotherhood might be a solid option, but if you prefer more realist shows you could begin with black lagoon, if you like romance genre Nana, karenano and horimiya are pretty good options, if you're into epic shit, tengen toppa gurren lagann and kill la kill would do the trick. There's plenty more options and I think that's the best part, there is no perfect anime to begin, but you can always find your perfect anime.
12:36 in the opening, it says *pokemon, gotta catch them all*. When you say *Yu - ki - yo* i must laughing😂. Good Video, when i had a wish, i wish more of these Videos
21:08 A decade ago, you'd have been lynched for not recognizing that one. Probably the second biggest (non mahou) shojou anime to ever hit the west after Fruits Basket.
Personally if my first anime was attack on titan i probably wouldnt have watched any more anime after episode 1 of that...😂 My heart was too fragile back then to survive a mom dying like that...
These quizzes can go very obscure but this one had loads of very recognizable openings for me. The only thing I missed was Blue Lock which I have not seen.
I am not gonna lie you highly understatemented this challenge. I being anime fan for 7 years and i still can't get all of them (sure i got like 95% of them). Best starter anime is Cowboy Bebop, it is an amazing anime, and has been used for year to get people to like anime who have never seen it. Also, if you could a reaction to history of anime through anime opening's reaction that would be cool.
Wow you did better than I expected, but I was also expecting the quiz to include some older or less popular anime. Since the quiz was mostly mainstream anime, I'd say you did pretty good! Especially for having just a year of anime "experience". I hope you do one of these at least once a year. 👍
I think one of the best beginner anime is Full Metal Panic That one features quite a lot of anime features and has a decent genre mux to be appealing to a variety of people
Ouran is so specific I never watched anime or read manga. Heard the op like couple of times long time ago and still got it right lol. Meanwhile I'm forgetting how tf SAO openings sounds xD
You can definitely count the Ranking of Kings OP. I got all but 5 wrong during your watchthrough so I’m familiar with openings. I didn’t recognize Ranking of Kings cause I didn’t watch it but the way you described it right off the bat made me ask my screen “..Ranking of Kings? Is that the one you mean?” as if you could respond. It counts!
Best beginners anime titles, it depends on who you want to show it to and what they like, for Shonen stuff you can't miss with Demon slayer, Naruto or My Hero Academia, for a bit older person, Fullmetal Alchemist or Attack on Titan, for someone who prefers stuff that is less Shonen vibe, stuff like Cowboy bebop, Ghost In the shell, Psycho Pass or movies like Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, Perfect Blue, Ninja Scroll, for those who just in it for the hype, any new anime that blow the internet is fine,
Fully agree, Made In Abyss is an anime I recommend to everyone, but for new viewers it'd be a little much I think, especially since to date it's the "best" show with "dark themes", only contended by original Berserk. Most other "dark themed" shows tend to be overly gorey for the sake of gore and not story/actual pain infliction, Made In Abyss uses such themes to rip your heart out with development.
Well, at least you got the One from One Punch Man correct xD. I watched hundreds of anime already but I only remember a few OPs that stuck to me(I got like 80% correct with the ones I don't remember being those I never watched or have never bothered watching the OP of). More hardcore fans surely remember every single one of them just by hearing the first tune though lmao.
I would recommend Attack on Titan as a beginner anime, but I wouldn't recommend it as the first anime they watch, as that first 6 episodes are going to make most of other beginner anime very stale in comparison. Would definitely recommend One Punch Man to beginners tho
I agree agree with JJK as a beginner. I don't with AoT. MiB is not beginner friendly at all. Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia are the two I'll add to beginner friendly. They're not my favorite, but I've convinced ppl to watch anime with those anime. You did pretty good with the guessing.
I got 35/50. You did well for being a relative newbie to anime. I don't think there is a beginner's anime. My first was Attack on Titan. But personally if I'm recommending an anime to someone I'll find something with similar themes as a live action they enjoy to provide a gateway. Made in Abyss is the perfect anime to show how misleading Openings can be for some anime 🤣

Probably just because I'm old fashioned, but Cowboy Bepop is still my ideal gateway anime.
Great pick.
1. It's Bleach
Quiz: no
2. It's bleach
Quiz : no
3. I don't know this op
Quiz : bleach
😂😂😂
I'm waiting for your bleach reaction)
Gigguk did a video on some of the best first anime to recommend someone based on the person’s genre interests. Though his blind pick based on no knowledge on the person was AOT.
man im so proud of this guy
edit: this one is such fun video.. i literally bursting to laughter seeing you rack your brains out knowing the anime in your head but not being able to say it.. im proud of you because you're literally not an anime fan a year ago and now look at you, taking an anime op quiz like a champ..even though you got alot wrong, its not surprising at all.. if you tell your past self that you would be reacting to anime songs, series, and now quiz, how do you think your past self would react?
btw i guarantee it that you saved some of the songs you've hear and like, thats why you know the songs, but you didnt know what anime is it because usually song titles doesnt have anime titles in it.. i know it because thats how i am before, i genuinely got into anime because i like jpop and since there's alot of good songs in anime thats how i started
oh another note, i think you can pause the timer, this is only easy, hard to know how well you'll do on next level of difficulty
The Ranking of Kings opening you struggled with is called "Naked Hero" so that's probably where you got the hero thing from, I would say that counts as you got the show right, but just got the name mixed up
Ive laughed more in this video.. than any other reaction PLEASE DO MORE 😂
I love your genuine reaction to when you got the openings right. So wholesome and energetic. Loved watching this )
To answer your question, I think Spy x Family might be the best beginner anime. Not too weird, not too dark, not too complicated, likable characters, great comedy, consistent tone, a short commitment of only 24 episodes so far...I know plenty of non anime fans who have told me how much they loved Spy x Family.
But for older audience if you are Under 20, probably not...
@@danielgolas180 I respectfully disagree, I think it can be enjoyed by teenagers no problem.
it just depends what you like tho, i'd say a battle shonen for a lot of people.
NO
@@gersonalberto5666 a lot of people enjoy action/fight. I can guarantee you that most people don't want to watch a slice of life for their first anime.
Ok. Already impressed. I started watching anime AFTER playing these quizzes with my friend. He made me be the judge while he guessed everything and it's the completion that made me get into anime and especially openings
I have 100+ anime already watched now and I'm not getting a lot more than what you are getting
I absolutely loved this video. It was so fun guessing along side you. Pausing is perfectly acceptable and so is the occasional replay.
You're such a good vibe man!😂Keep it up!
Nice 1st try Luke and congrats! 🎉
Thank you for taking our requests into account Rice man. 🕶
You did a lot better then I thought! (Looking at the fact that you are in the anime fandom for not too long and actually watched only a few series it is really impressive how much openings you do remember and recognise from the openings reactions!) I deffinitely would love to see part two with the other 50 ^^
Don't worry about pausing too much, I personally think it is perfectly okay ^^
I was playing along and my score is 41 (I missed some obvious ones that I should have gotten, so I am a little mad at myself for some of them, but I haven't watched most of these series yet)
You literally killed me at "Yo Boy Hero" ahah. Awesome video, keep it up!
It was hilarious watching you beat yourself up about missing OP's. I was really impressed with how many you got considering how you haven't watched most of the shows and only done a reaction once. That Made in Abyss one was sad though. Really looking forward to the second part.
“I know I’ve said bleach so many times now”
“I don’t know” lmao 😂
OMG, cant believe I made the same test yesterday (68p). You were really good, Luke!
This type of videos/quiz challenges are so fun...you should do some more❤
Luke: "Okey, this is either One P...
Me:" Yay, he got it!"
Luke:"...iece or..."
Me: NO, SO CLOSE, IT'S WITH THE HERO!"
Lule: "...My Hero Academia..."
Me: "😐" _table flip meme_
There is no absolute best beginners anime, since it will always depend on the person watching.
Now, if you want to pick one for each genre, that has a lot better chance of working.
Man somebody not recognizing Ouran Hostclub opening is so wild to me lol that show used to be THE most recognizable opening
I absolutely loved this video and can't wait for the second part 😂
25:00
The song is called "Naked Hero"
I love how he says hmmm what could "Pokemon (gotta catch 'em all) be. Wait I know it's Yu-Gi-Oh!
Don’t be so hard on yourself 😂, I’m honestly impressed you got so many right!
And I remember this is the first video I saw from you and I was among the people recommending Attack on Titan
Later I recommended Jujutsu Kaisen, Death Note, FMA Brotherhood and Spy X Family
Now I recommend you My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer. Love your animé journey!
Happy anniversary 🎉🎉
I love how you kept saying ‘It’s an old anime’ then listed a couple anime that came out in early 2000s and then said ‘Demon Slayer.’ 😆
At one point you even mentioned My Hero but then said no to it and said Demon Slayer again even though it’s more recent than My Hero 😆
It felt so weird hearing "older anime" and then Demon slayer immediately afterwards "Demon slayer"😂
"My King Hero King Hero Kid"😂 The song is called Naked Hero if that makes you feel any better.
*Anyway, you're doing well Luke. The secret to get these right is as easy as to watch the opening every episode.* As proof, I offer the fact that I got Blue Lock wrong, and I skipped the opening. Meanwhile, Hell's Paradise, which aired at the same time, I got right because IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE for me to skip the opening kk 🤣🤣
Oh, and happy anniversary! 😁😁
Man literally the whole video:
- Is that demon slayer?!😮
You need more likes 👍
How did he get 21 if he got the rankings of KIngs one?
@@Kroppers 21 was my guess, I thought he would have gotten 21 animes correct
Nowadays I recommend Spy x Family as a starter because it has a bit of everything without any extreme situations. Based on what they like about it, you already can guess what genre they like.
You did well on the quiz for only watching anime for a year.
My first was Gurren Lagann and has been my favorite since.
1. Pausing is no problem
2. As for most recommended anime for first timers, Cowboy Bebop is the most common one I see
3. Watch the Slayers OPs
15:30 - it really depends on the genre. I personally say few beginner's anime are Angel Beats (drama), Death Note (thriller, detective), and maybe Sakamoto for comedy (not the best choice though)
This made my night, awesome job! Loved seeing your reactions throughout this video, so fun!
This was a lot of fun and I hope we get a part 2, for no particular reason 👀
- For me you valid the "oussama ranking' you get it
- For Made in Abyss: oh sweet summer child, you are not ready for the moovie and second season.
Personally if my first anime was attack on titan i probably wouldnt have watched any more anime after episode 1 of that...😂
My heart was too fragile back then to survive a mom dying like that...
Well you did ok for someone who's only being an anime fan for 1 year. And ya BTW the guy who made this challenge video (Donki-Anime) he makes the best anime challenge videos on TH-cam so whenever you feel doing an challenge just go on his channel.
That's pretty much every quiz on TH-cam, you'll see the same songs over and over in every quiz.
Luke for literally half of these: Is this Naruto?
"Pokemon gotta catch 'em all hmm... yugi-oh"
Lol that broke me
Rurouni kenshin is a good starter anime imo
Also round 2? Def an entertaining video
I think one of the best beginner anime is Full Metal Panic
That one features quite a lot of anime features and has a decent genre mux to be appealing to a variety of people
We're gonna need another 50 of these
Ouran is so specific I never watched anime or read manga. Heard the op like couple of times long time ago and still got it right lol. Meanwhile I'm forgetting how tf SAO openings sounds xD
Yooo, congrats on the sponsor!
This is really fun😂😂 i understand the frustation when you know/heard the op but couldn't name it or get it wrong
It counts!
27:35 Luke giving Warning to Made in Abyss is like someone telling you to stop while behind him is a STOP sign
Or the classic Fate line, "That's hell you're walking into."
5:04 - That "infinity" sign when the first One Piece came up was hilarious
Yayyyy!!!! Happy anniversary Luke 😂❤
ive never seen him having so much fun before, its infectious
You got 16/50, counting Ranking of Kings which you knew the anime
86 gang will remember what the Dr Stone gang has done
