Thank you so much for doing this video!!! I am a quilter not a “sewer” of other things. But I wanted to make my grandchildren a little tote for there treats and you helped me accomplish that desire .. thank you thank you, I wish I could show you how mine turned out, I love it so much. So thank you one more time for this video ❤
You are such a talented crafter. I mean, you can do so much. I don't think I have patience to do as many things as you do. Or the things you can do, it's just awesome. The bag is just so Beautiful!!!
I really enjoyed watching this process. That is the cutest trick or treat bag! I was cringing for you when you told the story about your finger. Thank goodness for Mr. Crafty! Have an awesome week!
Oh yes, the needle through the nail and finger. Admittedly, I did it twice, once through a fake nail and the second time through my natural nail. Evidently I was free motion quilting at the speed of light. I also screamed, but I was home alone. Once I got the needle out, I went up to the bathroom to clean up the blood, and then promptly sat on the floor for fear I was going to pass out. I was woozy for a good bit, but like you, I had to go get the blood off my quilt, which I did manage to do. You would think I would have learned the first time! Cute bag! Thank you for sharing.
That's the great thing about War Stories we can laugh afterwards but scary as heck going through it poor mr. Crafty but at least he was smart and got you through it I bet he had extra soft hair that night LOL❤
I need to make some small Halloween bags for the children’s hospital and I think I will use your basic pattern and just cut down the size. I love the way you used the different fabrics to make the bag, it makes them more interesting.
This is a darling trick or treat bag. I’ll head to JoAnne’s in the morning to find fun, cute fabric so I can make two for my 7 and 9 yr old great-grands. One will definitely have to have a unicorn and the other some kind of boy stuff. I think I’m going to increase the size a bit for them. Now, my two great-grand 2 yr old toddlers will get the size you made. So cute! And thank you for the idea. You’re “giving talent” is helping remind us what we can do. Again, thanks. ❤
My sweet mama worked all of her life from the age of 15 in a sewing factory. I remember well a number of times that she came home from work with her finger sewn. Ouch. 😢. Your bag is so pretty. TYFS ❤️
Super cute little tote! You are so talented girl! You can make anything. I have gotten to get me a new machine. But, I’m really wanting an embroidered machine. Not really sure the route to go.
Oh my Goosh that story still makes me shake thinking about it, I hate having to learn lessons the hard way LOL I just absolutely adore your tutorials I told you you are seriously making me going to have to yank out that sewing machine I'm going to I just got to get with it LOL how long have I been telling you that LOL🤣😂sweetheart you done good on this bag I love the colors and I love Halloween this is perfect for the kids to go trick-or-treating with and definitely will not break like the plastic bag handles or those little plastic pumpkin handles, I had a lot of experience with my kids and broken handles LOL have a blessed beautiful night honey hugs and kisses and sleep with the angels I love you❤
Hi Mrs. Deanna the tote is such a cute project.I am a beginner and I will try to make this tote for my kitty’s little toys. Thank you so much for today’s tutorial 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛
My first sewing machine was a sears kenmore when I was 13. It had a bare light bulb above the needle area where your right hand goes when sewing. Yup you guessed it. The right hand reached in to help guide tge fabric and I proceeded to seriously burn the top of my right hand between the thumb and top of my hand. I still have quite the scar from it. Needless to say haven’t burned my hand since at least on that sewing machine. (Although the easy bake ovens from the 60’s caused numerous burns as well.) That old sears machine (in its lovely desk cabinet) still works but it has become the tv stand in my bedroom. I’m on my 3rd machine since that one! / Great cute tote! 🎃
Hi, adorable bag! I’m literally making this bag now but somehow ended up with an extra inch on the outside of the bag. I used a 1/4” seam allowance. When I run the numbers with the seam allowances deducted I also come up with 23” for the outside. I’m still new to sewing so maybe I missed something?
If I wanted to use this size but have the look of your 8x10 grinch bags how big are the squares I have to cut out so it has the boxier purse/bag look? I am new to all of this. I will have to go out and get me some of the pellon but I took a pic of what you use and I’m eager to try. I will make the smaller one that you made about 8 x 10 but I would really like to make someone else a larger one and maybe use the length to be longer than the height. If that makes sense? Thank you for sharing your videos and thank you for your help.
I’m so glad I watch this. I got a tote bag from a women’s retreat two weeks ago and the inside is not finished and I wanted to put on my name in it. However, I didn’t know how to do it. But now I do thank you so much for this video.
Awesome project! I love how it came out!❤ I wasn’t able to pull a needle through my fabric one night, so, not really thinking anything of it, I tried to push it through against my leg (wearing jeans). The eye of the needle (not the sharp end) WITH the thread, went straight through my jeans and into my leg. It was so deep, I couldn’t pull it out. I had to calm myself down and find a pliers to pull it back out. Never again will I make that mistake!😂
Cute Halloween tote! I haven’t made one in quite a while, good reminder! I think if you’ve sewn long enough, like a lot of us, you’ve got several sewing stories like yours! Yeah for the hubs! I don’t like scary Halloween either! 🎃
Well, I am 70. I sewed my finger exactly the same way. But, I was 12 years old, in 7th grade Home Economics class. My mom had to come get me and take me to the doctor for a tetanus shot. It’s a lesson I’ve never forgotten. And, I’ve told the story to my four granddaughters as I’ve taught them how to sew. Love your channel. I love listening to you talk as you see.
Deanna did you not put your interfacing in? I know you said you were going to attach it after you sewed but I didn’t see it. Anyway you did a great job and I love it.
That is a real ouch. I have sewn my finger 3X in my 71 years. Once when I was 9 years old on a treadle machine "that I still have" once at work on an industrial machine, and the 3rd time at home. Moral of the story is, "KEEP YOUR FINGERS AWAY FROM THE NEEDLE". LOL Be Careful for sure!!! I love this bag, I am making it for my G Grandson and G Grand Daughter.
Love your bag! Your story gave me the willies! I can’t imagine going through that! Did you loose your nail and did you heal up okay? Thanks for sharing all you do. Love your videos.
I have sewn my finger twice, and stepped on pins barefoot when I was young. In my case, the needle broke both times... no thread or hospital trip! I'm presently sewing bags, both small bucket bags and large totes with zippers. I'm using up some Vintage Island Prints I bought on a trip a couple years ago. TIP: Try pressing your straps up to fold. A 4" strip is perfect for the size. You won't need interfacing! I just got my hubby trained on the iron! He made 45 sets of straps for me, and they sewed up fast! Also, I have a magnetic seam guide. By placing it next to the foot, it sews straight effortlessly! Bye!
My Grandma sewed 2 or 3 stitches in her finger. She went to ER. She had to take antibiotics. I was pretty young so I didn't remember. But she never did it again either.
Gave my husband a used blade from rotary cutter to throw away. He missed the bag and it end up on floor. The next evening I ran into studio barefoot and sliced off the bottom of toe. I ended up in emergency and they did what they could but since I was having thyroid surgery the next morning I couldn't have any pain meds. It was a very painful night. I was never so glad to be put to sleep for surgery. 😢
Oh I have a good story for you mine was with the rotary cutter cutting out strips for my quilt and I rolled that rotary cutter right across my pointer finger on my right hand took five stitches to sew it up and I still don't have feeling in it LOL it cut it all the way to the Bone completely around to the other side I thought I was going to have a fit the bad thing was I couldn't drive and hold all this crap and my neighbor run over and took me to the emergency room lol
Of the Pelon which side do you iron on ? I learn your videos, I am new to your channel an I have learned so much. You give wonderful instructions, you should be a teacher. Thank you
My mom had the needle-thru-fingernail trauma back in the 1950s. She released the needle from the machine. Thank goodness my dad was home and got his pliers and pulled it out of the nail. It was quite the moment.
My nails break needles. I learned early to be careful but then I started getting my nails done with overlays. Now I break needles that fly across the room. So now we check our feet constantly just in case.
I want to ask you, do you wash your fabric before you use it or does it depend on what you are making at the time? I don't like washing mine, because I fine it shink the fabric.
I had a needle accident with my embroidery machine. needle went thru fingernail clear thru bone and out other side. I was a mess. drove to Urgent Care. had tetanus and then ER for them to remove the needle. I worked for orthopedic surgeons and they never saw such a thing when I went to work the next day. lol.
I was just learning to make masks with a friend of mine, she was showing me how to use a roatery cutter so when I went home I thought I would try to make me a pillow for my couch well I started to cut my material and I had my index finger having over the ruler and I sliced my finger. I seen I had cut my finger I just ran to the bath room and wet a wash rag wrapped my finger in the rag and drove myself to the E.R. I had 11 stiches in my finger. I will never do that again.
When I iron my Pellon, it will adhere to the side that I just put fabric. If you iron it toward another piece of fabric it’s going to adhere to that fabric as well.
Wow!! What story!! Ouch!! The bag is precious!!
Finger survived! Thank you!
Oh, Deanna, that's just adorable!! Your poor finger...but a lesson learned! You are the best teacher. Thanks for all you do. So generous ❤❤
Thank you so much!
Love this bag. Thank goodness I’ve not had sewing accidents. Glad you didn’t have to go to ER. Love that you went right back to it. Your awesome.
Thank you 😊
I am going to make one of these for my granddaughter. Thank you for the inspiration.

It healed up! Thankfully! Thank you

I always wrap things like that taped in cardboard so even the trash people don't get injured.
This is a very good reminder...Sorry for your pain!

Hi can you tell me what the sewing mat you are using.
Of the Pelon which side do you iron on ? I learn your videos, I am new to your channel an I have learned so much. You give wonderful instructions, you should be a teacher. Thank you
The glue side goes on the fabric. Thank you!
Deanna I'm praying you are feeling better❤
Thank you
My mom had the needle-thru-fingernail trauma back in the 1950s. She released the needle from the machine. Thank goodness my dad was home and got his pliers and pulled it out of the nail. It was quite the moment.
It’s not fun!
When my brother is in town, he still gets nervous when he sees me put a hand near the pressor foot!
Okay just rub it in that your craft room is clean I'm still waiting on you to get here and clean mine LOL and organize it😂😅
Lol
My nails break needles. I learned early to be careful but then I started getting my nails done with overlays. Now I break needles that fly across the room. So now we check our feet constantly just in case.

Ouch!!!!!!
I’m confused about the Pellon used. It says 2sided bond, but was it fused to only one side? I may have missed something. Thank you.
When I iron my Pellon, it will adhere to the side that I just put fabric. If you iron it toward another piece of fabric it’s going to adhere to that fabric as well.
I have sewed my fingers many times and cut the end off my finger with a rotary cutter. That hurt worse and an ER trip
Hallweeon
I ran the rotary cutting over my index finger while cutting fabric. Not my best crafting day!
Ouch!!!
