Imagine it’s 40 degrees out blazing Sun, you’re in a tennis court blazed out of your mind with Ben degros and he starts asking you if you use bearing spacers
I use bearing spacers, but I don't crank the nut on to the washer. The reason I use them is so that when they connect from an impact it takes the stress off the core of the wheel. If you've ever had a wheel core out, you'll know what I mean.
Your basically intentionally warping if you don’t use spacers. What idiot would do that? I have 300 bearings that didn’t come with spacers. What morons do that? I buy Amazon spacers and washers because Powell makes nice bearings but are morons and cheap when it comes to adding spaces. Total disrespect to the consumer in my opinion.
Someone should come out with a spacer, washer, kingpin, and nut company. They could make spacers for all different types of wheels and have a search engine on their website for wheel brands, types, and sizes. They could make better nuts (thinner, stronger, and lock better) and make shorter kingpins (because of a thinner nut) for clearance and inverted kingpins for all different types of trucks. The company could also, later, come out with an all-around wheel shape that could be made for different companies and formulas. Rounded on the outside and sticking out to the point your axel nut doesn't get ground down and a have flat inside with a slight rounding on the corner, so you can slide into locking-in and getting-out easily. They could come in a variety of colors for each, too.
i would absolutely use spacers if they were as universal as they are meant to be. (im so drunk i can’t read so i hope this days what i mean for it to say.)
When you set the bearings and spacers up in first put them on the trucks you slightly over tightened them and that seats the bearing and the spacer into the wheel.... Then I back it off just a little bit to make it loose like you say so they spin faster...
Give Seismic Tekron bearings a try. I used to do the same with my old skateboard bearings. The Seismic Tekron bearings have a center core that extends a slight out of the exterior, eliminating the use of washers. The interior portion of the bearings make contact against the other bearing inside the wheel, which eliminates the use of bearing spacers. After a bit of riding the bearings run smooth and no gap is needed.
You guys are defeating the purpose of the spacer, it supposedly make the wheels and trucks basically 1 connected piece when you tighten the axle nut down and squeeze the washer-bearing-spacer-bearing-washer-hangar piece. When you back off and it’s looser it’s partially separated and makes the spacer meaningless
@@Nirvezz nah, that's not how washers work in this context. they're included primarily to reduce friction between the two contacting points of metal and simply extending the bearing doesn't fix that
The reason for bearing spacers is to prevent side loading the bearings when you put all your weight on the board when leaning. Ever side load an electric drill the bit won't stay concentric for long. Sorry I have a masters in mechanical engineering and I skateboard
Yeah but this is some pretty basic info. I work in a regular ass manufacturing job and i completely understood what you were talking about based on experience
trying to confirm im understanding this correctly... so when we put all our weight leaning when turning, the wheel deforms a bit and could potentially lead to dislodged or moved bearing (once the nut wiggles looser...)?
pop sheilds and use spacers, heat and the wheels geting wacked sometimes the wheels spin slow but once you start rolling they free up and the bearings will break in and just get better and better and you wont blow out your wheel core and your axles won't ever slip.
@@Swamberzdon’t. There is no performance reason to not run shields. They may sound a little cooler without shields, but who cares. Running shields helps keep dirt out, and helps keep lubricant in. Anyone who doesn’t run shields simply doesn’t understand bearings.
Spacers also minimise the amount of dirt that gets into the backs of the bearings (dirt that travels along the axle and into that void). In other news, how are you liking the Slappy trucks??
Spacers have saved my ass quite a few times. If you’ve ever ollied 6+ stairs before, and one of your bearing(s) break upon impact, the spacer will help to KEEP the board rolling, even on a busted bearing. If you break a bearing and don’t have a spacer in, your board is going to stop immediately and you’re going to eat concrete. In summary, always use spacers.
Groundbreaking... because most modern skaters do not use or understand or know this for the past 15-18 years at least.... I used bearing spacers in 1977 on my 0j superjuice.... And have ever since...
