    Finally! Some people sailing the English South Coast, where I live, rather than some much more tropical destination! This is a much more realistic goal for me and that makes it far more exciting.

    First that was an excellent tour. Mostly you never see a person on the loo or in a berth to get a real feel for size so great job. I would give that a 4 star as a weekender and a 3 for a couple weeks holiday. It does a lot for it's size. I'm a fan of the old Hans Christian 33 with a completely different layout but you can't compare apples to oranges. Cheers.

      If you are New to Sailing, a Croatian Sailing Instructor has just done the best introduction to Sailing I've Ever Seen, and it is Free to Watch on his TH-cam Channel - Igor Stropnik - and his video to watch is "How To Sail A Beginners Guide". tbh, imho it's better than the RYA's, and fir learning and getting a good feel for things, starting with, or having a Dunghy Holiday with a 2 SailmDunghy like the one in his video, is a massive help in getting a good foundation. Personally I wasvseveral years in a one Sail Dinghy as a youngster, that my father built, which did help get a feel for the Marine Environment, but The extra learning possible at the same time, just from having that extra Sail , I can only guess at now. I didn't even know about such things as Sail telltales, until a few years later. Its such a good video, it's worth passing around. Just search Igor Stropnik, and look through his videos. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍

    Nice boat. I'm actually impressed with the forward V Berth. Sensible Height. Ny last boat it was a right struggle to get upmintonthe V Berths, and there was real Danger of falling out. For Toast, you can get cheap stainless toasters that pop on top of a gas burner, though you have to watch out for burned toast. Easy to get in the swing of though. Well done on the size of the House Battery Bank , 👍something handy like plastic bags to greatly reduce the space things like sleeping bags and clothes take up, is Vacuum heavy duty bags. Put stuff in, like bulky Warm Winter Winter gear, sleeping bags etc, and with a hand pump, you extract all the Air. What a difference. I could get all bulky stuff regularly used into seperate vacuum Bags in the V Berth locker, and spare dry sleeping bags and such under a saloon Seat. A Great Boat for where you are based and with a Marina Berth. Years of fun and Adventures ahead. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍🙂

    Astonishingly classy, thought out, and suitable. Please check that the port side batteries are not wired in parallel as a lot of boatyards are stupid to keeping batteries isolated or in series. (6 volt golf cart). A much smaller set is possible if not wired in parallel. A second small solar panel is desired as the essential one can get broken mid-voyage. A spare Hong Kong 12 volt chest fridge is a good addition. The smallest ones give best sub freezing.

  • @wslpoppin

    What do you mean "we can't really do toast or anything like that." Personally, I use a Stansport Folding Camp Stove Toaster which takes up hardly any room in the cabinet with my plates when not in use but makes toast perfectly up to four slices of bread at a time. You can probably find one in most stores that sell camping gear. If you like toast I highly recommend one.

    I subscribed because I like sailing families. Cute family and kids. I almost missed them b/c I was changing to another video when I saw you showing someone else so I came back to the video. Just my opinion, I think you should show more of what you do. I don’t know if it’s just sailing or you do other things too. If you don’t do other things I assume your children aren’t going to be thrilled after a short amount of time. I never see any videos of a gay couple or a family so glad I saw yours, and happen to see the family reveal.

      Depending on age and condition, you can get a second-hand one for US $45,000 to 65,000. In my opinion, those small Bavaria's give you some of the best boat per dollar on the market.

  • @Fromatic
    @Fromatic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Over the last few years I've been wanting to get a yacht more and more, though if I get one it would have to be something a little smaller and less shiny than this which looks very nice. But I also live in the real world working 9 to 5, and wonder how far could I actually go on a weekend out if I went down friday night ready for an early start on Saturday morning, or maybe even heading out friday evening? Closest marina to me would be in\around the Solent, but I just wonder with a full time job how far could I go in a weekend? Or if further down the line with some experience under my belt, if I booked a week or 2 off work would that be enough time do you think to get down to say Lisbon and back? Or would I realistically be looking at port\marina hopping along the south coast? Thanks

    • @CactusSailing
      @CactusSailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sort of depends on who you have on board and the weather / tide window you have and how long you want to spend sailing vs exploring somewhere new. with the kids and dog on board, I try and break up passages, otherwise its a bit unfair on the kids to sit there for more than 12 hours, and the dog always wants a walk!
      I'd sail much further on my own for example, as I'm less worried about anyone on board getting bored, and would happily sail through the night non stop.
      Check out our other videos to see where we manage to get to, i would say Lisbon is optimistic, but nothing stopping you exploring the whole of the French northern coast, the channel islands, the isles of scilly, Belgium, or even a sail into Amsterdam!
      We did try the scillys the other year but our dog was ill, and also we ended up having lots of headwinds and storms, so it didn't go quite to plan, but we learnt a lot and know how to tackle it better next time, although Covid isn't helping with planning trips right now.
      Either way any sailing we do is all experience as I hope to sail further in the future, that's the dream anyway!

    • @Fromatic
      @Fromatic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CactusSailing Thats fair enough being based on lots of variables, and especially for you with kids and a dog I could imagine boredom setting in for all of them. For me it would be mostly solo sailing which might give some extra options, if I was careful with annual leave maybe I could stretch to 3 or 4 weeks off one summer for that Portugal trip, but yes its a good point if I got that far I would want to hang around at least a few days and not just re-supply and head straight back..
      When you say Isles of Scilly, is that possible in a weekend do you think, maybe a long bank holiday weekend, or would that be a full week job? Ive watched a few videos from people but it can be difficult to know exactly how long they took or how far they actually went. I'll give some more of your videos a watch also, theres probably a lot more interesting places around the channel
      orth sea that are reacheable in a weekend than I realise at the moment, and I guess it can be warm enough up here in the summer, dont necessarily have to get down to Spain and Portugal to enjoy a nice sunny day on the boat.
      You've made a good start on that dream, you've got the boat and you're getting out there!

    And while you’re pulling down sails the man overboard drowned or got caught up in current and swept away. Faster to drop the dinghy? I like the idea of sailing but hate the actual sailing. Sailing is all work with little time to relax and enjoy the sea. Always having to adjust sails or put one up or take them down. Then with wind the boat ends up on its side and or throwing people around. I guess people love all that because there are millions of sailboats around the world. Oh nearly forgot the costs! Never ending money pit of broken parts. Blows my mind.
