- The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, announced arrest warrants against two Israeli leaders - including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - and three Hamas leaders. The prosecutor focused on actions taken by Hamas on October 7 when militants stormed southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking some 250 hostages, and on Israel's military response in Gaza, which has killed roughly 35,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza health ministry. As the ICC's top prosecutor places the heads of Israel and Hamas among world leaders infamous for war crimes and heinous acts against humanity, FRANCE 24's Nadia Massih is joined by Rosa Freedman, Professor of Law Conflict and Global Development and the Director of the Global Development Division at the University of Reading.

Britain took away the role of independent judges enforcing international arrest warrants and gave it to the politician who becomes the Attorney General, and they decide if they will honor the arrest warrant. That's political interference, not international law. Over 12 Lords in Britain have been found to be representing Israeli arms manufacturers and to have significant investments in Israeli arms makers.

I would say Israel is a semi-authoritarian or authoritarian state with some democratic institutions. If you look at their press freedom index, they’re number 101 slightly ahead of another ‘democracy’, Nigeria.

The arrest warrant is not for Israelis jurisdiction but for those countries in the treaty. It means, if issued, they would need to arrest Bibi IF he travels to those countries.

I have jurisdiction over my laptop, over my YT input, and welcome the opportunity to comment on the absurdity of the pairing of Hamas leaders with Netanyahu by this juvenile ICC court which is attempting to throw around it's non-existent weight.
Let Benjamin Netanyahu continue with his activities in Gaza because he is innocent instead terrorists are the Hamas....ICC has no right to issue arrest warrant to Gallant & Benjamin because they defending their country.....

Karim Khan knows perfectly that he can't legally sue Hamas leaders before the ICC, but he did it, and very late, to give an impression of impartiality by doing it at the same time as the Israeli leaders, ha! ha! ha! So obvious, that it is not worthy of respectable international legal issues.

No surprise that for the ICC’s Karim Khan, once again, history begins on October 7th even though his investigation has by his own account been ongoing for a number of years and is supposed to take into account all crimes committed since 2014 but he has yet to address any crimes between 2014 and 2023 notably the crime of apartheid, the crime of illegal settlements and the occupied territories.
The other thing is his apparent attempt to place the onus primarily on Hamas - he's indicted three Hamas leaders but only two Israeli leaders and strangely he is seeking the arrest Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the group’s political bureau, who - according to most accounts was not involved in the planning and execution of the Hamas attacks of October 7th. Meanwhile he has not sought the arrest of either Israel's President Isaac Herzog or the Israeli Chief of Staff or any of the commanding officers involved in Israel's Gaza onslaught since October 7th - nor for that matter other key decision makers in Israel's war cabinet like Benny Gantz ,Gadi Eizenkot and others.

ICC should not unnecessarily discredit itself by issuing warrants prematurely. Define self- defense, protection of citizens, prosecution of war in defense, vicarious liability of heads of government and defense forces in the heat and fog of war. Hostages are yet to be released, therefore, can it define the duty of government of Israel under these circumstances. What if hundreds of relatives of hostages insist on knowing the jurisdiction of ICC over hostage release and what efforts ICC has made to get them released and on what basis it prevents Israel government efforts to get them released especially by issuing warrants against Israel government leaders. Since self defense and hostages release had been delegated to IDF what vicarious liability be attached to PM Def Min. Is ICC a Super Government which can sit over judgment of duly elected governments and domestic judiciary??
