      @@dinglefingle3301 yeah, definetly, sixgill sharks in the Mediterranean Sea usually arrive at the boats dead because the boats pull quickly the nets and that makes a quick change in pressure, in fact you can see it, because their brownish colour gets kind of pink when they get pulled out of the water

    What if fishermen were to also be trained as scientists? Gather data for the sake of new knowledge instead of only business. Would we move towards sustainable fishing?

    • @bodilfabian-lamijon7179
      @bodilfabian-lamijon7179 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds good. Fishermen sometimes kill sharks they think are a threat to their business either by going after the bait or prey as them - when in reality they eat only things like squid or small fish. So at least those kinds of shark killings would be reduced if fishermen were educated

    To go on about how rare these sharks are, and in the same breath congratulate himself for not killing them this time... This is a pretty irresponsible way to do a science. I'm not naive enough to think that research totes no casualties, but chucking out net after net for months, splattering them out on deck, and handling them so sloppily (no doubt killing far more than he "saved"), is such a waste. A waste of resources, time, money, specimens... It's an unnecessarily destructive method, and his casual immaturity about it is cringe-worthy. The arrogance of claiming to save these rare, and even endangered sharks when he's the threat says a great deal about his character. I'm being very polite. There are fantastic researchers out there that know how to do this efficiently and effectively. I think Paul needs to spend some time with them.

    Sharks are truly the most amazing & influential species of living things on this planet in terms of their types of species effects on the evolution of all life forms on this planet starting at the very beginning of complex life in the oceans of this planet.
    Sharks & their like have influenced the evolution of every other life form on the planet from the very beginning, when complex life first began to evolve in the sea. The shark species is truly a most critical species to the successful continuation of healthy & balanced oceans & complex life on this planet. We allow sharks to continue to be slaughtered, risking their extinction at the current rate at our peril. The loss of sharks in our oceans & seas will result in the death of complex life in our oceans & seas, as well as the survival of complex life on our planet. Sharks & their kind are critical to the health & balance of the earth's ecosystems at large. They are a pivotal species to the evolution of complex life on the planet.
