I haven't listened to the talking bollox podcast yet but just added the episode to listen to but this should have never have been taken down. I don't know what they said to defend this but it's probably similar to my view, this is literally just a parody of west coast G funk rap but inverted, instead of black G funk rappers talking about fucking white bitches, they flip it and are white boys talking about fucking black bitches. It's not racist, it's a parody and it goes hard.
Parody and comedy, I think, are just labels naysayers lay upon them just to downplay their success. They are absolutely part of the serious rap genre but they just contain comedic and satirical elements too. Denigrating something to simple comedy means it has no replay or rewatch value. It’s like saying Kick Ass is a comedy movie. It’s not; it’s a superhero movie with comedic elements.
The reality is that these lads stumbled upon a market nobody knew existed in Irish Entertainment, and regarding this song, Alex basically said that they’re portraying the most disgusting characters imaginable. And he’s right. The lyrics aren’t meant to be taken literally, and I don’t ever recall Versatile’s lyrics or their real life personas instigating any real conflict and divide the way most of their detractors did in real life. Casey’s Walsh’s ex was sent the most disgusting death threats from people over something that smacked of disinformation from the get-go.
It doesn’t take a genius to work out that their songs are a work of fiction. So-called intellectuals and alleged critical thinkers, some of whom probably studied English at some point, tried to claim that this was what they’re really like, despite not once did anyone ever refer to their other work. In Done Deal Season, they robbed dogs; in Lost and Found, the snatched kids and sacrificed unborn fetuses. Then the album Fuck Versatile, takes all the complaints and uses then to further motivate the FICTIONAL characters that are Eskimo and Casper. I’d imagine some parts of the songs were re-recorded to implement stuff like “Fuck the Sunday Independent and their write-ups…” etc. I think there’s another album read to be announced at some point, and I hope to God at least one song will be absolutely scathing of the Irish Music Industry and the Media.
@@well1012 Don't get me wrong, I'm not dismissing them as a parody act. I'm not even Irish, I'm from England and I appreciate their actual talent as rappers. I am just replying to the criticism of their lyrical content, accusing them of being racist, homophobic etc. I think their content is a parody and humorous but they are still great rappers and taught me things about Dublin culture I didn't know.
@@callum2547 Absolutely. And what’s more impressive is the tone they’ve managed to keep consistently. It’s a hard tone to pull off. Now that said, not EVERYTHING they’ve done has been amazing. Like the first song they released after the controversy was Flashy Flashy. Great video, but the song itself felt like they’d become apologetic and actually submitted to what the naysayers said. I genuinely thought it was all downhill after that. Then Babyproof, while it wasn’t amazing, its significance is lost on a lot of people. Fuck Versatile was a complete return to form. My only complaint is that it’s too short, but at the same time it feels like no track is filler.

Used a lot of racial slurs like "coon" no way it's coming back, they removed it without anyone even asking them.
