This Bed Went Viral Online, So I Tried It Out

  • After seeing viral videos of this bed on TikTok and Snapchat, I picked one up for myself to see if it's as good as they suggest. Also the foam addition was actually a mattress topper, not a mattress pad, so I acknowledge my error before the TH-cam police unleash their wrath on me.

    I bought an EZ-Bed almost 15 years ago, we had the same issue with comfort, my in-laws who were sleeping on it bought a topper as well. I had no issues putting it back at the end though, it was always easy. I ended up building a murphy bed from a kit and lumber/plywood and put a good mattress, sure it's more expensive, but as it was never leaving the home the easy carrying wasn't that much of a benefit for us.

      Yeah, just a regular self-inflating mattress + separate folding bed frame is so much better combo.
      Although from my previous experience I would recommend one of those tall (around 40cm) self-inflating mattresses, since they don't need to be put on any bedframe. I've had one of those metal folding bed frames and after like 2 uses it started to creak every time you did even a slightest of movements so I quickly got rid of it

  • @dani001042

    I've had one of these for more than 10 years. Mine came from Frontgate, and I suspect ones on Amazon aren't as good quality. I love mine. Still comfy, still fully functional, zipper on case still works. 10 out of 10. One thing people who aren't used to it do that makes it not as comfy is they don't inflate it enough. I have never had any issue with stability. It's not uneven in the least. I use a nice mattress pad (the kind you can launder, not a topper.)
    This is the bed I set up for my elderly mom who has had 2 hips and a knee replaced and has difficulty getting in and out of bed.
    I also have several air mattresses and a collapsible frame, and those are 10x more difficult to set up and take down, they aren't as compact, and they eventually poke a hole in every air mattress.

  • @ethelryan257
    @ethelryan257 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Every so often, we get a glimpse of just how tall you really are. It should not take someone of your impressive size to repack a bed which is supposed to be pretty much self-storing.
    This is one of those really great ideas which, properly executed, could have been great. Instead, they froze their mattress technology back in the 1970s.
    If they updated to the current air mattress configurations and fixed the minor frame/storage issues, I think this could be a winner.
    Really appreciate your honest reviews. I had considered getting one, now? Nope.

    My Aerobed mattress has the same divets and bumps and they are not comfortable. It probably has something to do with how air matresses take the weight. I used the aerobed with a mattress topper, when I visited my Dad. What I hated most was getting up off the floor even though it was one of the taller mattresses. Having a bed frame would definitely make it easier to get in and out of bed. I think a mattress topper is always necessary with these type of air mattresses.

    Hmm... I'm not sure if this will help, but when the bed is deflating, try to gently push the frame to compact it. Maybe it'll help to get more air out of the mattress so you can store it easier in the bag.

  • @3DPDK
    @3DPDK 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I'm betting a narrower bed like a "regular" or "twin" would have less bowing effect. The problem is that the mattress is supported cross-wise by flexible, cloth straps. If you could adjust them a little bit tighter it might alleviate some of the bow. That might help to pull the legs in place, also. However, no matter how tight you can get them, physics is physics and the straps will sag with weight. The greater the distance they span, queen or king size, the more they will sag.

  • @antibrevity
    @antibrevity 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Another thing not shown is that the unit with the mattress pad will not be nearly so compact. The mattress pad may actually be larger than the mattress when stored. The mattress is doing very little anyway once you add a 3" pad. Buy a thicker foam pad and sleep on the floor.

    In my experience, most air mattresses will deflate somewhat overnight the first couple times they're used, due to the plastic stretching out from its factory shape. To me the big problem with this type of bed is that it would be harder to detect and patch a real leak if one were to develop because you can't flip the mattress around easily. It's a shame too because it would be a great solution for guests who have difficulty getting up off an air mattress on the floor.

    I just use two inflatable mattresses one on top of the other (with a rug pad in between them to keep the top one from sliding). If one springs a leak, it's cheap to replace. I don't have the ones with a built-in pump. I use a cheap comforter under the fitted sheet for comfort and to keep from feeling the plastic.

    I wonder if something like this could be reconfigured to use a foam mattress. Those things are mostly air anyways (as anybody who has ever unpacked one from a tiny box to see it "inflate" afterwords can tell you). It would probably be a bit more expensive since the legs would be some sort of compressing robotic mechanism or something like that, but it could be pretty comfy in theory.

    We had a similar air bed years ago. It did not expand on its own like this one. You had to open up the frame (very much like one of those folding lawn chairs). On top of the frame there was a zippered compartment that you would slide the mattress into once inflated. It was a relatively comfortable bed, but the setup and takedown was a bit tedious, and it was very difficult to get everything back into the bag.

I do agree that this mattress might be hard for some people to sleep on because of the valleys but I beleive its designed this way for deflation purpose. Overall I am able to have good night sleep. The topper does eliminate the feeling of the valleys. I love that it has it own frame as I prefer not to be on the ground. Its is a little pricy but it easy and fast to set up and to put away ( at least for me).

    The whole point of the inflatable was to turn a room that was used for something else into a temporary bedroom so, yes, the mattress topper as to the cost, but all in all, it's way better than a futon, I feel. And way better than an inflatable on the floor.

It is not the most comfortable bed but good enough for guests to use for a few days and better than my experience with a traditional air mattress. I have found traditional ones to leak making them noisy and depending on the leak, leaving my guests on the floor. None of my guests have complained about the divots but I do not think I have ever inflated it to firm.

I was moving into a new apartment so was able to use the shelves to my bookshelves to flatten it each time but it took three days to do it nicely. Something that deflated and had it's own storage is appealing.. right now mine is sitting over under my desk while I figure out where and how to store it.

    Id still go with an air bed that folds the size of a handbag. It seems like the size of that thing is going to cost me extra on my airfare tickets.

    A decent air matress on the floor will probably way more comfy aside from way cheaper as well. This feels like something you pull out once a year to flex on your guests on how hi tech your extra bed is.

    Thank you for reviewing this item. I'm a huge camping fan. But as my age progresses, sleeping on the ground has been deterring me from going camping the last couple of years. When I saw this a few months back I was going to get it but wanted to wait to see how the reviews were. The putting away seems too much for me to warrant to purchase it. Now I am on the hunt for an alternative.

    Looking at it inflating it does look like a good product or at least idea. I have an inflatable double size mattress that sits like 3-4 feet up after inflating. My main issue is that it always seems to lose some air and a better pressure system might fix a lot of issues. but adding a mattress pad seems like a great hack to make these better.

  • @maryjones1
    @maryjones1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Well that’s sad. I had such high expectations from the moment I saw how it was packaged. The manner by which it was inflated and unfolded into a bed was a bit like magic. By the end of the day, this bed, with its sinking sides, being able to feel all of the mattress divets, and the feet of the frame not all sitting evenly on the floor, at once, took it from a promising 9, to a 4-5 for me. This was a pricey venture.

    the main use case I could think of for this is if you needed a portable/storable bed and, for whatever reason, _needed_ it to be off the ground. my first thought is for camping on rocks that you think may be a popping concern, but I'm sure the camping industry and community already has a better solution.

    It would be cheaper and just as space saving to buy a foldable bed frame, cheap air mattress, electric air pump, and a mattress topper. Like under $50 dollars cheaper. I see absolutely no reason to spend an extra $250-$300 more for a quirky unfoldable air mattress. Thanks for your reviews, as always!

    Hello, i currently do not own ANY air fryer of any kind or any other ninja gadget. I just found your channel as i had seen someone who had just purchased a ninja creami and i wanted to know what it was like. So now, i am going to go through your videos to see what you think of any of the gadgets or appliances or other things that i am thinking of buying! Thank you for all your work you do in giving us reviews before investing in a product. Happy New Year!

    I stayed at my wife's aunts and uncles home and they had this thing. It must have had a mattress pad on it because I slept well, but I also sleep well on a sofa, cot, etc., so maybe its just me...When one sleeps like a log, little bothers the sleeper! HA HA

    It's really cool how it sets itself up. However, at least part if the frame lifting on the sides appears to be how that "casing" sits under parts of the frame. As far as comfort, inflatable mattresses tend to not be all the comfortable anyway. It seems like it could be ab acceptable solution for people who need an extra bed for company (maybe let the company have your bed and you take the inflatable). But, as you said it's rather expensive. I notice it doesn't deflate as well as it inflates.

  • @melaniedriscoll5729

    I actually used this same air bed myself for over a month after moving. I only just deflated it to put it away today. I used gravity to my advantage and had no problems getting it back into the case. Instead of pushing the bars together horizontally, tip the bed up on its end so they are stacked vertically so they compress more completely.

    Ancient history, my dude. I bought three twin-sized units from QVC (I think) fifteen or so years ago. Leaks can be problematic but they’re not from manufacturing, in my experience. Chasing leaks can be frustrating. I suggest using a blanket as the base layer as there’s a lot of air that has to warmed to be comfortable. I can sleep acceptably on the twin as it’s too narrow to rock like your queen example. The twin is also easier to put away.
