I keep my carry on luggage in the trunk containing full change of clothes, shoes, and a blanket. Pre packed backpack goes in also. Good use for a carry on size luggage instead of taking up closet space. Also keep a milk crate with jumper cables, car fluids, and drinking water.

Oh yeah, I got all that stuff too, as a matter of fact, not too long ago, there was a tree limb that fell across the road, and it was too heavy to pull, and I was able to use that silky saw to help the guy cut and drag it off the road thank you!!!

Just a suggestion. Consider carrying 3 or 4 mustard packets. If your home is a 1 hour drive away, that could be a 2 or 3 day walk and you may get muscle cramps. Crazy as it sounds, mustard helps relieve muscle cramps. Just a thought.

Excellent recommendations I have considered eliminating a few other items since I have shot the video. Usually, I will also keep that pack and back of my car if I decide to just go camping for the night so I kind of have a hybrid scenario going on there but thank you so much. It would eliminate a lot of weight.

If you want to ditch the metal shovel, Fiskars makes strong plastic trowels, sometimes they show up at dollar stores. There are other trowels ultralight hikers use but they cost about $20. I have two but the edges are not hand friendly. Everything is a compromise.

If you're talking about long distances, then consider adding a bicycle to your car trunk. Folding bikes have come a long way in their strength and durability and offroad options are available.
Riding is a lot quicker than walking. There's also the option to transfer the pack onto the bike and use it like a mule the way the Vietnamese did on the trail.
Zizzo makes a model called the Forte that is the size of a BMX bike with 300 pound payload. Montague and Flatbike make full sized mountain bikes that fold by rotating around the seat steam. I prefer (and use) the Flatbike since it retains the diamond frame strength. Montague's flagship is the Paratrooper model, originally designed under military contract.
My get home kit is based around a bike packing kit that fits the Zizzo Forte or the Flatbike Change 612.

I've got a butane stove, 1 person tent and sleeping bag, you can get by with an MRE or two. I have a fully packed 18L day hike pack in my car at all times. It has all the essentials. Not quite an ultralight backpack kit, but I could survive for several days. Emergency bivy, extra large emergency blanket, titanium 700ml mug, ultralight titanium emergency esbit stove & fuel, ultralight poncho that converts to a tarp, packable water resistant jacket, IFAK with my daily meds, emergency food, tea bags, Hydration powders, map, compass, small fire making kit (lighter, ferro, a few storm matches, small amount of tinder), headlamp, small flashlight, SAK, water purification pen & purification tabs, titanium water bottle, poop kit, whistle, paper, sharpie, cordage, tiny sewing kit, zipties, duct tape, super glue, hero clip, trekking poles. On top of that, in my daily carry sling, I have a power bank and a couple of cables, meal replacement bars & high protein snacks, and pepper spray, among other things. The whole thing weighs about 7# with the trekking poles. I also have a car emergency kit with electronic jumper/tire pump, jumper cables, flares, Chem lights, wool blanket, the usual stuff, and an EMT FAK. I'm not am EMT, but I have lots of friends who are EMTs and RNs. I do have wilderness first aid and strongly recommend it to everyone. I always have a keyring flashlight, Gerber Dime, small folding knife, and a flash drive with all my important info/copies of documents. I generally have at least 2 knives on me at all times, one keyring and one larger. Skip the hatchet. I've been backpacking and camping for over 50 years and never needed one. On the other hand, my Huntsman SAK has a decent saw blade that's handled anything I've needed. For being in the woods, it handles most everything and what it doesn't (pliers, mostly) the Dime does. Both together weigh less than a large multitool.
Your pack is going to be very heavy if you have to hike 30-60 miles. Strongly suggest checking out ultralight backpacking gear.
BTW - I grew up un the northern tip of the Catskills and hiked the Adirondacks as a teenager and early 20- something. You're going to want enough cordage (at least 50') to do a bear hang to get your pack off the ground and away from critters.

If I had to hike 40 to 100 miles the logical ranges of an hour-long drive. At the fastest speed hiking. It should be about 20 miles a day. I would not have taken as much as you. In some areas. While I would have carried more in others.
    1. You do not need as many lighters, and candles, You do not need candles. You could use 1 lighter, 1 rod. It would be fine. You really do not need the rod. Just two lighters would save you a ton of weight. With a flashlight. That is talking about redundancy.
    2. One knife, one cheap lightweight trawl. The axe really is a maybe. A multi-tool is a great idea. The thing is. The multi-tool is wiser than a knife.
You will not need a saw. So one knife, one multi-tool, and one trowel. Again many long-distance hikers carry a lot less.
    3. Cloths, socks, 5 pairs. 5 pairs of underwear. Good comfortable shoes running shoes, or trail running shoes. They are the same thing. These shoes need to fit you perfectly. 1 Rain jacket, or umbrella, or poncho.
    4. A sleeping system. Bivy sack with a mat that will keep you off the ground while you sleep hidden in a bush.
    5. Medical kit with needle and thread. The medical kit should have stuff for minor cuts, over-the-counter pain meds, caffeine pills, and things that are good for your feet. Blister fixing stuff.
    6. 1 32 ounces of water with the water purify pills.
    7. The rest of your space should be 100% food. You will want a ton of calories because you are burning many calories while walking. Even mix in multivitamin pills. I am going to guess that you will need 2000 calories a day. With a cooking kit.
    OR
Cash and your phone will also fix this. Call a cab. Have them drive you home.

Both my Forte and my 612 fit well in the back seat of the club cab of my 2004 Dakota.
The Forte weighs about 28 pounds and folds down to 27"x31"x13". Comes standard with a rear rack. The new model has a front bracket for a front basket or front rack, but mine is older so I can't comment on that option.
It looks like the Change 612 has been superceded but Bob at Flatbike is good people. Pretty sure Flatbike has a channel you can check out.
My advice is to research for a while and shop closer to the holidays. Bikes tend to be very much in the "get what you pay for" category and prices have gone up since I bought mine. Happy hunting!

What kills people who arw trying to survive the fastest is one's body temperature getting too far above or below 98 degrees Fahrenheit....
Next fastest killer is dehydration from not enough water going in ine end or too much going out the bottom end from contaminated water...so purification is essential...
Humans can go a LONG time without anything to eat..
And call me crazy, but if I was making a kit in case I had to hoof it, then quality well broken in hiking boots & 2-3 pairs of wool socks would be the very first item & I'd build from there...
